A note in Rule 8.1.3 states this clearly:

If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

The officials on the field, and the replay team at the NFL offices in New York, all got this right. They just had to work a little harder than usual to do it.

Cooksies was a slight movement that did not cause him to lose control of the ball

James’s did lose control of the ball

    Just stating facts

No. You're stating your opinion tempered with a good dose of bias stemming from your NFL fandom originating in 2002.

I don't give a shit if the Pats or the Steelers won the game (I don't sleep in a Brady jersey and have a picture of Tom and Donald framed in my living room). James' catch was a catch.

The rule as it is written allows for some gomer at central to interpret something other than the obvious.

I think we can all agree that the dumbest rule in football is the classic

    - run ball in for close touchdown with 9 seconds left

    - clock stops for touchdown

    - touchdown is automatically reviewed and get overturned

    - game over instead of having one more play due to 10 second run off

I think the rule should be that a game can't end on an overturned touchdown with more than 5 seconds left. One untimed down should be played.

I don't like the rule (The Calvin Johnson non catch is the most egregious example of how bad it is), but by the rule, James did not catch the ball.
He didn't have control when he hit the ground, his left hand comes up off the ball and spins the ball about 180 degrees. Pretty clear according to the poor rule.

    This weekend we rock Portland

This only issue I have for this is what if the team had no timeouts?  They would never have stopped the clock had they been ruled down at the 1 yard line originally.  I'm not even sure they would have been able to call a timeout.

Usually 6 seconds is long enough to place the ball and get another play off. In basically all cases this would apply to teams already in the redzone.

I think we have seen lots of teams blow that up (getting back to spike in 6 seconds from the time the previous play ends)  -- I think that if they have a time out and there is judged time enough to call one, at least they should be allowed to do that.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with the call because it means the Steelers lost.  But it is still a dumb rule.

After Portland, Spokane and before Seattle, Vancouver was the bomb. The second to last show is always the best of any tour. Met Mike outside his hotel before heading to Seattle but Vancouver as a place to hang and experience? Was incredible and for a lot of reasons. Karma, fans, vibe, food, etc, was all amazing. It ranks top 5. Show kicked ass, IMHO. Weather was brutal though, damp fucking cold, unseasonably so. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!

NFL Network has Pats/Steelers on, if you want to watch the incomplete pass again.

Halifax... I see you were at the Vancouver 2013 show.

What were your impressions of that show? I was there as well on the floor.
After Portland, Spokane and before Seattle, Vancouver was the bomb. The second to last show is always the best of any tour. It was December. It wasn't unseasonably cold, it was appropriately cold ;)

    MVPs?

Russell Wilson has done more for his team and pathetic offensive line than any player in the NFL to keep the Hawks in the hunt. Brady has the Pats on top of the league. Gurley and Antonio Brown have been unstoppable. Case Keenum as a darkhorse?

    Rookie of the Year?

I feel Kareem Hunt with a nod to Alvin Kamara.

pretty sure this is a arod/tony bosch situation.
Is this the Super Bowl distraction?
Pats traded away their SB chances when they let Jimmy G go.

Can we talk about how tom Brady's trainer got the boot? You're trying to tell me that the trainer of the greatest system QB ever got the boot because BB was annoyed with him?

i bet arod also only took steroids because he wanted to live up to his contract

I would bet a large sum of money Brady at least takes HGH. I know they test but we all saw playmakers. He’s probably using his sons blood to pass tests.
