  • It's hard to believe that the redskins could be in 1st place in the NFC East 2 weeks from now.

Dallas has Denver next week and will probably lose, which will make them 2-3. Washington is on a bye week, then they play the Cowboys. If they win, they're tied for first after starting 0-3. Unreal.

The overall record for the division is 4-12 :fp:

    Terrible.

Correction: I said they'd be tied, but they would own 1st place because the Cowboys would be 2-5; Redskins would be 2-3.

  • And actually, I just checked the Eagles' schedule and they could be in first place. Next week they have the 0-4 Giants; Week 6 they have the 0-4 Bucs. Might be 3-3 and sitting atop the division. Then Jerry Jones might lose his head.

I like this quote from Yahoo Sports ...

There are people who know football, and then there are those who say Peyton Manning isn't that great and cite his playoff record as proof.

They are the same people that say Marino didn't win a SB so he isn't good.

that whole SB=good QB thing has always sucked IMO.

way too much weight given there

    P. Manning is the best QB ever. E. Manning isnt better because he has one more Superbowls

Time will tell. That guy from SF was pretty good. You've never seen Peyton look as bad as Eli has looked at times. I'm not even counting this year.

I agree that Peyton is probably the best QB ever and I watch him play any chance I get. But, there is no denying his lack of success in the playoffs. The one super bowl that he did win was handed to him on a silver platter by Grossman (still bitter) I don't think it makes him less great, but that will always follow him around.

It's hard to judge who is the best QB ever, but Peyton is in the handful for consideration. I do think it is safe to say that among the elite QB's, his knowledge of the game is unsurpassed.

I find it especially funny when some moron says Tebow is better than Manning because Tebow has one more playoff win with the Broncos than Peyton.

It that stat holds for a couple years, then the Broncos have a problem. Peyton did have happy feet in that playoff game las year. If it wasn't for Holliday, it would've been a blowout.

Well here's a stat that should make the Broncos feel better. The next time Peyton throws a TD pass, his season total will be tied with Tebow's career total.

From what I've witnessed from the 80's onward, I have the elite QB's as follows (in no particular order):

    Manning
    Brady
    Favre
    Montana
    Young
    Aikman
    Brees
    Marino

    Honorable Mention: Jim Harbaugh :P

    I agree...
I would remove Aikman and put Kelly on there. Kind of homer-ish, but if you look at the numbers, it makes sense. Completion % similar, but Kelly in less NFL time had like 80 more TD passes. I think Aikman only had >20 TD passes 1x? The SB years, that Dallas offense wasnt so much based on Aikman as the Bills' offense around Kelly. K-Gun no-huddle where the QB calls plays.

At least Broncos fans are actually able to witness a truly great QB with the arrival of Manning :P

Aikman was a great QB, and nobody can argue with his results, but he had GREAT teams. He had one of the best combos of RB/Receiver to work with in Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin. Maybe not as good as what Montana had in Craig and Rice, but one of the best tandems of the time. Jason Garrett proved that it didn't take a hall of fame quarterback to win with that team when he came in as 3rd string and beat the Packers. But having Aikman certainly helped. But I was at that game, and I got to see Irvin work up close, and I was amazed. You could throw anything up anywhere and he'd get to it and come down with it. It didn't look like he was running routs, Garrett was just heaving it down field and Irvin would get there and get it. And then you have Emmitt Smith to keep the defense honest.

I still think Aikman deserves to be on the list though, but he did have a lot of help.

Don't forget the O-line on those Aikman teams.

let me play the what if game for debate purposes. What if Phillip Rivers came into the league with ladanian thomlinson? I really think he would be in this list. Rivers was in that conversation when he had a running game (and Vincent Jackson). I'm not saying he should be in the list now, but what if????

And when they did get to him Aikman was injured a lot. He had a lot of concussions and various broken bones and other injuries. He was pretty fragile. Not a question of his toughness, you can't keep bones from breaking or reverse concussions with a macho attitude, but without those great lines he would have had a very short career I think. I'm not sure if they were ALWAYS great, I don't know who was on the line through those years off the top of my head, but he did have some good ones.

Dickheads are excluded from being members. It's in the rules. ;)

I was borderline on Aikman. It is true he was playing for a team stacked with so many good players it looked like one of those Madden "cheat" rosters where you are trading players with a rating of 40 with those of 99.

Aikman, the coach wants to see you in his office and bring your playbook, so sayeth The Turk! You've been downgraded to really good.

    Its like Emmett Smith.

He has the Super Bowl wins, and the record, but can anyone who watched football at the time say that he was better than Barry Sanders?

That Dallas team was stacked. One of the best NFL teams ever. But I dont think a lot of those guys would have been stars/hall of famers if they were on the Lions, Cardinals, Bucs, etc...

Having great blocking and other threats for the defense to worry about certainly helped, but that doesn't explain away Emmitt Smith entirely. He had moves and some power. And he had them even when he got past his blockers, his yards after contact were ridiculous.

WTF is going on in Tampa? Since they have a pirate on their helmet, they have decided they need to run their organization like the Raiders? Looks like they have leaked personal info on Freeman now.

Greg Schiano appears to be a dick.

Yeah, that's a real mess in Tampa. This does sound like something that would happen in Oakland.

Agreed, Schiano seems to be a real dick. I'll be surprised if he makes it through the end of the season. The fact they they are 0-4 on top of the rest of this shit doesn't help things...
