Well, it looks like our inept power company is going to sut us down for a few day again thus I probably won't be here for a few days.  SO PG&E, this notes for YOU!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95i8zGdB8dM

Hey man sorry to hear that, stay safe. Hope it's over fast.
    Thanks, Lerxst!
We're back up and running... until Saturday evening when, they tell us, the power will be shut down again.

But hey,no time for moping.  Time to spin some records, watch a movie or two and enjoy life while we can!

I got lawn seats from a friend to go see guys tonight, it's been since '89 the last time I saw them. I think they're on their 40th or 50th anniversary tour. They're a fun band to see live.

    https://youtu.be/ISveIzgq_kQ

    Peace
Nice to see they're still out there doing it!
Yes, they’re still out there playing their music. Unfortunately, they seem to be on let’s play & go home. They played for 1 hour and 13 minutes. They played slightly longer than Cheap Trick who played for 1hour 10 minutes, who played music like I they wanted to be in West Palm Beach. To me in this day and age where concert ticket prices continue to rise. Thats way too short of a show for a band that’s been around for so long, I would’ve been upset had I bought tickets for a set that short.

    peace

Short shows can be frustrating. To me bands should find a way to play for as close to 2 hours as physically possible. If they need to take an intermission or a couple of encore breaks, so be it.

Older bands like ZZ or cheap trick I understand that it's due to the aging process, so its it's either that 1 hour 13 minutes or what Rush did, retire at 62 years old.

How about when young bands only play 90 minutes? Great bands like SSPU or Chevelle play very short shows. I dont know if there is an issue with voice but c'mon they should figure out a way to play longer. Mix in some solos and instrumentals and perhaps an intermission to give the singer a break.
Cheap Trick being the opening band usually only get 60 minutes @ The Cruzan Amphitheater. If there's a curfew @ 11 then why did ZZ stop @ 10:35. Minimum for a band such as ZZ Top should play for 90 minutes.

As for my ALL TIME favorite rock band RUSH they made the brilliant decision to play with an intermission back in the early 90's. It gave us old folks a chance to get a bathroom break, buy memorabilia or for some a puff puff pass session. I discovered Rage Against The Machine during one of those breaks.

It's sad that they're retired (mainly Neil) but it was the right decision to not carry on without Neil. I wouldn't have gone to see them without The Professor and I've seen RUSH, 50 of their shows since 84'.

    Peace

Yeah for a while, I just didn't have anything to say here.  Except for the appreciation of good music, I have nothing in common with 98% of the people here.  In the mean time, there is a new wave of young really amazing talent coming into their own.
Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, and this guy Cody Jinks.
Music is in good hands cheers!

Farm Aid was As Good As It Gets!!
I enjoyed every minute start to finish noon till midnight.
Tremendous tallent.  Margo Price is really good check her out.
But as usual Neil Young stole the show.  Yes I attended this one enjoy.
He even played Harvest Moon which was the unexpected highlight for me.

I forgot to mention he also played Throw Your Hatred Down from Mirrorball!! which was another unexpected pleasant surprise highlight.

Nice!  I like it that The Guardian "described Childers' songs as a "counternarrative to the outsiders who seek to perpetuate stereotypes of backwardness and poverty."

Derisively?  Who does that?  Besides, yee-haw is more an a Texas and old west/ cowboy phrase that some, yes, use derisively.

I don't.   I love the phrase "Yee-Haw".  My ancestors on my mothers side of the family were pioneers who moved westward out of Kentucky very early on during the Westward Movement period in our history.  They eventually made it to Nevada and later California working as ranchers.

So in honor of those good people, I yell a hearty (and sincere)  YEE-HAW!

Backgammon... poker... a drink or a smoke anyone?  Lounge time!

He brilliantly sings about the life he has lived and seen and where he's from, Eastern Hills of Kentucky.
The dialect he uses, and subject matter I wouldn't call backwards or poverty driven but definitely not mainstream, and definitely not pc.  It's about where he's from.
And the way he tells the stories you can paint the picture in your head.

I finally figured it out about Sturgill Simpson,
He is a hybrid between Waylon Jennings and Pearl Jam.
Let me demonstrate this is off of his new album Sound and Fury the song is called the fastest horse in town, this is his Pearl Jam side
    https://youtu.be/qBYct1Ed_Eo
    This is his Waylon side
    https://youtu.be/CTsTbM2uG_4
And this is the tune that pole vaulted him to the top in my mind called Brace For Impact
    https://youtu.be/ktPQ762Unt0
And since this is the lounge car, Ive got to interject some booze with it.  I am sipping on some Old Milwaukee and some Johnnie Walker Red Label!!

You see I want to know why Eddie doesn't comment on these kind of guys.
Why dosn't he attend and perform at Farm Aid?  I'm sure Willie and Neil would love to have him.  They could sing Just Breathe together.  He & or Pearl Jam would fit right in.
I bumped into a few 10 Clubbers at Farm Aid and we were asking ourselves the same questions.  It's right up their alley.

    In Bloom!!
Sturgill Style, takes a classic grunge song and turns it into a masterpiece.

And he's not into celebrity he is way beyond that much like Pearl Jam was in the early going.

One fun and funny guy and heck of a banjo player.  Add Ms Brickell to the mix and, well... nice!

I didn't realize it at the time, but when I was 4 or 5 yrs old, I had a brown plastic kids tape recorder with really big buttons on it, and a few blank tapes & I used to put the tape recorder right in front of the TV to record the opening and closing song every program and I'd then listen to it during the day. ( This is before I got into my dad's Waylon, Willie, Cash, & Elvis 8 tracks)
I think mabey/ probably this is where my love for music began.

    Fascinating.
And I would like to thank Tom Hanks, and everyone associated with putting this movie together & for doing this movie, it's really really good.  It's not a kids movie it's not corny, it's really good, very powerful, I'm sure most of you have seen the trailer already but here it is again.

    & a really nice interview with Charlie Rose, Fred Rogers was indeed a special man, majoring in childhood development, got a degree in music wrote and composed over 200 songs.  I hope somebody out there gets something out of this.  A few Indirect quotes {Everybody is unique. Everybody is special in there own way.  Feelings matter.  This world is way too noisy.  Its good to play the piano as loud as you can and then go for a swim or a run to release pent-up tension or anger}

And we can thank Fred Rogers for public funded broadcasting PBSin the early going one amazing testify before the US Senate in the late 60s.

Nicely written there, RYME. I loved Mr. Rogers; he and his show were a beloved part of my childhood.

His “look for the helpers” quote has always stuck with me.
