I don't even know why the president would be involved in gay marriage. Just let the states decide.

the problem with this is, theoretically, if me and my gay lover move interstate, our marriage may not be recognised, let alone legal.

The same could be said for-
    medical marijuana
    age to consume tobacco
    speed limit
    etc.

Marriage isn't a federal issue and the federal government isn't granted the authority to manipulate marriage, though not having authority hasn't stopped them in the past.

just a few questions to ponder:

how does it affect you when someone else marries another person?

how would it affect you or your marriage if they married a dog, carrot, tree, fence, computer, robot, etc...?

why would you care what someone else does?

why are we worried about who is getting married when the main goal should be getting people married so as to improve the family dynamic?

The biggest difference between obama, romney, and santorum...two do it for political reasons, one wants to be able to control private acts in the bedroom (check out his feelings on sodomy and the rights the government has in your bed room)...

and OP, do you honestly believe your thread title? Being the same on gay marriage includes more than simply an up or down vote...reasoning and motive are also included.

    completely agree with you.

the same can be said for everything one person does that doesn't affect another. the problem as i see it is that many people who want respect for their religion also want to discriminate against another's pursuit of happiness...So as one group wants acceptance they tend to forget that as they don't accept others...it goes both ways...

This is VITAL to understand! Those who are against gay marriage are mainly not against two men or two women doing their thing. We believe in your freedom to do what you want! You can also unionize and recieve all the tax breaks that married couples also do! The definition of marriage is an institution between a one man and a one woman! Its healthy for society to preserve that instititution! Those who support gay marriage are in the minority by far! So you cannot have %20 of society HIJACK the other %80! The definition of bigotry is not listening to the other side and only standing firm on your own.

    Healthy? Why?
That is your argument? Its healthy?

I am 100% confident that sometime in the near future, gay marriage will be universal in the USA. I think you people who would like to suppress gays from these same freedoms that heterosexuals enjoy, better start getting used to it.

"As you know I dont discriminate...But I oppose same sex marriage..." -Mitt

"I would be a voice speaking out for making sure that that every person in America, gay or straight, is treated with respect and dignity, and has equality of opportunity. That does not mean that I would agree with certain things that the gay community would like to change laws, with respect to marriage, with respect to adoption, and things like that..." -Rick Santorum

Which is it Rick? :? This is so contradictory and laughable.

But he will listen to them in a respectful tone?...what a joke Santorum is.

For those against gay marriage, please answer this question.

How does gay marriage have any negative effect whatsoever on your life? I'm in Canada, and the only effect I see is loving couples get to get married, the world hasn't ended, and there hasn't been a total degradation of society as a whole...

This is VITAL to understand! Those who are against gay marriage are mainly not against two men or two women doing their thing. We believe in your freedom to do what you want! You can also unionize and recieve all the tax breaks that married couples also do! The definition of marriage is an institution between a one man and a one woman! The definition of bigotry is not listening to the other side and only standing firm on your own. Gays and those who support gay marriage are being bigots first and foremost because they wont accept the civil union label! So they are forcing their ideology on the major majority! The disease of progressivism will slowly try to persuade society to agree with gay marriage, hence, the bigotry is developed there.....by hijacking marriage and forcing those who do not believe in it ....to accept it! Thats what you and most people who support gays dont understand!

Gays and those who support gay marriage are being bigots first and foremost because they wont accept the civil union label!

me thinks you don't know what bigot means

Its healthy for society to preserve that instititution!

in order to preserve the institution, why would you not want to make it more inclusive of all types of people. Encouraging marriage in all types can only make the institution healthier...Promoting a strong family, even one with two dads or moms, is a benefit to society. The only thing that granting the right to marriage to all can do is promote more families...different from what you are used to maybe, but more families none the less...

So which is it? are you against more families and the bonds there in or are you against more people being married and making a life long commitment to each other?

    You. Are. Incorrect.

There are over 1500 rights, protections, privileges, responsibilities and resources allowed to married heterosexual couples that gay couples cannot get with any extra hoops to jump through.

A recent study also shows that gay couples pay about $6000 more in taxes per year and yet aren't able to access the programs those taxes fund.

Please learn your facts before making more of a fool of yourself.
The definition of marriage is an institution between a one man and a one woman!

No, That's your definition, not the definition.

My definition is "a legal contract that a couple makes with the government to help them as they build a life and home together. Since a strong family is the base of a strong country, we agree that helping strengthen all families, whether we would want to be a part of that family or not."
Those who support gay marriage are in the minority by far!

Wrong again. A majority of Americans now support gay marriage. In New York State it's near 70%. And although proposition 8 narrowly passed in California 3 years ago (mostly thanks to Mormon-funded misinformation and fear campaigns), most studies have shown it would no longer pass and there is a possibility it may be voted away in this year's presidential election.
So you cannot have %20 of society HIJACK the other %80!

Exactly the same argument used to stop desegregation.
The definition of bigotry is not listening to the other side and only standing firm on your own.

Um... no. THat's not what the definition of "bigotry" is. Words have meanings. You can't just decide "what it means now."

Gays and those who support gay marriage are being bigots first and foremost because they wont accept the civil union label!

that makes no sense whatsoever. not even a bit.
So they are forcing their ideology on the major majority!

First... you're not the "majority" anymore. But.. nobody is forcing anything on you. You realize that you can still marry someone of the opposite sex, right?

the bigotry is developed there.....by hijacking marriage and forcing those who do not believe in it ....to accept it!

I can assure you that I do not give a flying fuck if you "accept" my marriage or not.

I mean... you weren't even invited to mine.

And aren't you... the minority, as we've pointed out.... forcing those of us don't do not agree with your position to accept YOUR position?

I mean.. that's not very democratic.
Thats what you and most people who support gays dont understand!

Actually... since us gays pay more in taxes and use less of the resources... we're the ones supporting YOU.

    Interesting read.

In the republican debates the other day, they asked Santorum how he would react if he had a son who came to him and said he was gay. Santorum said he would love him just as much as he did before he told him he was gay.
However, I assume he would stick to his guns and say that his own son didnt deserve the right to get married.

anyways this article had an interesting story of someone who evolved and questioned their own religion...I hope more people can evolve.

Ps - AND, its foxnews!
