    i'm joining.

all you have to do is add them to your foes list. then you can not see them post their gibberish and will not be tempted to read their posts and reply.

the problem i have is i have a hard time allowing people to come on here and post completely fabricated, inflammatory and factually inaccurate things without trying to correct them. to me, allowing that to happen dumbs down the discussion for everyone..

Or it may force them to stop spouting gibberish and posting silly pictures, and actually contribute something instead. It's not possible to engage with silly, childish slogans, and lame pictures copied from the internet - hence why we call it trolling. It's posted just to bait and anger people. Therefore, I'm gonna ignore them(him) from now on.

    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

The world is full of all kinds of people, attempting to understand them and that
shows character. Motives are not always easy to second guess, perhaps
its best not to assume at all or assume your assumption is wrong,
    chances are it is.

It's easy to dismiss, dislike. Much harder to love. To realize the gift of all interaction.
Even that which one might feel is not 'good enough' by their standards
or that which they do not agree with.

For me, in my opinion, I just don't see the trolls unless they are abusive.
I see that more than clearly.
Hurts my heart. That is a troll to me. Those with a motive of being hurtful
to another. Cruel, spiteful, ridiculing, bullying.

In my opinion a troll is not someone who doesn't agree with the masses nor might
not be as up on a subject, that is someone of a different opinion, view on life,
or way of expressing themselves. With the right to express as long as it is not hurtful.

As far as the foe option ... works great against those I describe as trolls.
Being on the high road but unfortunately their words remain hurtful even up there.

A kinder gentler 2012 for all hopefully.

Thanks very much for that patronizing psycho-babble Pandora. Much appreciated.

Edit: Pandora, here's a quote from someone on this message board posted not too long ago:

"I love the death penalty, Rick Perry, and Israel

    WOOT!".

Now go ahead and 'understand' that, and enlighten us all as to the posters 'motives'. Can you tell us all how 'the gift of all interaction' (whatever that means?) applies here?

    Thanks.

so what is your defination of a troll ? amd what makes you think we have trolls ?
trolls on other forums are trouble makers that can not be identifide by the rest of the posters...
so not trying to stir the pot but that is just about everybody on here because we all don't share
the same views or opinions,so does posting a different idea apart from the other posters make
that poster a troll ?...we paid $ to be on this forum so what makes some posters more special than others ?
    just asking...

this is the definition of "troll". short, simple, and to the point.

troll- One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.

i think we all know a few of these.

don't feed them and validate them by replying.

I see nothing wrong with that quote it is that posters opinion,
but you do cause you do not agree so that makes that person a troll to you.

Gift of interaction is just that .... we don't have to agree.
    Some gifts are hidden treasures.

Why must some posters riducule and put others down though.
Their motives are clearly troll-like in my opinion. They are hurtful.

sorry you find it provocative wouldn't that be on your part though?

Trolls, in my opinion, are those who attempt to hurt and put down others
    not their opinions.

your opinion is not the agreed upon definition in the online world.

fine with me if you want to expand your definition of troll. but the one i posted is pretty much what most online forums adhere to.

and as far as usamamasan's quote, i think it is pretty obvious what his motivations are...

online world might not be as feeling as it should be :?

    why cause of the Woot?
still his opinion, his right, and one would think unless the reader is very volatile
those words would roll like water off a ducks back.

kind of like psycho babble by know ;)

The gift of interaction just lettin it roll along...
even with those we don't agree with

Differences of opinions (even diametrically opposite opinions) can be good and can make an interesting debate. A bit of 'feather ruffling' never hurt anyone. Plain old trolling (as example mentioned), is not really an opinion offered to engage in a discussion, just a flippant statement to seed discord which, as a number of you said, is best to ignore but oh so difficult to do so!

    perfect point ... Godfather

it seems to be based on posting a different opinion but funny thing is that is debate

but debate is not personal as it is made here.... might be a 'click thing'
like high school but debate in high school wasn't this bad ;)

I'll do you one better, I think most people have done that. And I think some people wanting to avoid the trolls do that to from time to time.

Now, I wonder, will you be able to read my post or have you already "foed" me? ;)
    hippiemom = goodness
  • the thing is, people are DELIBERATELY being trolls. it is just that some people have been so brainwashed that they believe in things like murder, conquest, and the will of the nation above the will of the people.

    is this statement a contradiction?

"DELIBERATELY being trolls / so brainwashed that they believe"

aren't they just stating their opinion which is not one you share?

I remember seeing that post and being confused by it.
I used to support the DP, but even then, I was saddened that I thought we needed to use it. To say "I love the death penalty" is just plain strange, and sounds a bit baiting...looking for a rise maybe? I remember wondering about the motive to use those words. Love+DP?? odd.

Actually its a core belief and not the least bit baiting in my opinion...
    no personal attack, no disrespect
no personal ridicule... did not attack another poster or rile them

people feel strongly about their core beliefs their words show this
and they are rarely effected by others opinions, rarely changed and why debating those subjects
    can be rather futile.
