After a year of rumors surrounding the release of singles and TV appearances, Van Halen have made an official announcement: The band will be hitting the road in 2012, with tickets for their first dates going on sale 10 January.

Earlier today (26 December), the band posted the above clip that was shot at the the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California. Reportedly, the group filmed a video for a brand-new song at the Roxy, and the promo clip for the tour uses footage from that shoot.

Regarding the tour, an actual itinerary hasn’t been revealed as of yet, but that info should be coming on or before 10 January.

While nothing has been confirmed as to a release date of Van Halen’s upcoming disc, a graphic that is being used (see below) lists “2.7.12.” The first single? The full album? We should know soon.

The new Van Halen record was produced by Ross Hogarth and is the band’s first full-length album with singer David Lee Roth since the release of 1984 (which was issued on the last day of 1983).

  • AWESOME!
  • Van Halen has invited music writers and critics to an intimate concert at Café Wha? in Greenwich Village on Thursday night as a prelude to a tour with the band’s classic lineup later this year. Nothing official has been released, but journalists have been told the group will play a short set.

The one-night performance in the 250-seat club on MacDougal Street in Manhattan marks the latest enigmatic hint that the band has sent about its plans for the year.

Does that include the kid that wasn't even born yet when this "classic lineup" was realized?

Yeah, the whole Michael Anthony/Wolfgang Van Halen thing was pretty stupid.

New single and tour dates on Tuesday 2/10, then supposedly an appearance on the Grammy's in February. 8-)

Hopefully the single will get leaked before then, like everything else does nowadays.

You know, I read Sammy Hagar's book and it really turned me off to Van Halen. Maybe some of it was fabricated, but I tend to believe that Eddie is really as screwed up as Sammy portrayed him. Also the way he described the whole David Lee Roth thing and the way Michael Anthony was treated by the band made me really hate the Van Halen brothers.

i feel the exact same way. i'm mildly interested in the new album, but there's no way i'm going to pay to see them live ever again.

the new song they played last night sounded okay from what i could tell by the video (its hard to hear DLR vocals). i figured they would try to capture the old 70s sound, but i was really hoping we would get something along of the lines of Me Wise Magic.

After years of rumors and teases, iconic hich-kicking rockers Van Halen are officially all the way back. Following an intimate club show in New York on Thursday night at Café Wha?, the group revealed that they will hit the road for a 45-date tour beginning February 18 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The first show will take place less than two weeks after the release of A Different Kind of Truth, VH's first album of new material with original singer David Lee Roth since 1984. The first single and video from the disc by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act, "Tattoo," are slated to drop on Tuesday.

The tour will feature support from legendary R&B act Kool & the Gang on select dates, with tickets going on sale on January 14. According to a press release, fans can expect to hear some new songs on the tour alongside some of the band's most beloved tunes, including "Eruption," "Running with the Devil," "You Really Got Me," "Everybody Wants Some," "Jump" and "Hot For Teacher."

In late December, Van Halen fans got confirmation that the reunion tour and album with 57-year-old Lee Roth were on via a video released on the band's official site.

Van Halen's original bass player and backing vocalist, Michael Anthony, was booted from the band in 2006 after 32 years and replaced by guitarist Eddie Van Halen's teenage son, Wolfgang. After parting ways with Roth in 1985, Van Halen rebooted with singer Sammy Hagar in 1985, enjoying a string of hit albums and songs through 1996, when Hagar was shown the door and briefly replaced by former Extreme singer Gary Cherone, who only lasted three years in the slot. After bringing Hagar back in from 2003 to 2005, Van Halen invited Roth back into the fold several years ago and toured with him in 2007 and 2008. Dates for the Van Halen tour:

It's hard to get past the anger and gives these guys another shot, they could have been the greatist band of my life time, better than U2, or even P.J., well see, hopefully there's some magic left.

It's hard to be the greatest band when you have a good number of cover songs on your albums. I once did the math and on all of their albums about 20% were cover songs. I might be wrong but it's close to that. I think every album has at least one cover. Hardly great in my mind. I do enjoy most of their music but not all.

WOW!!! Dude really? I didn't say my numbers were concrete. I was just saying they have way too many covers on their albums. Just making a point. It's almost as bad as the artists or bands that dont write their own music.

Covers should be for shows or b-sides or compilations not studio albums. It makes it seem like they ran out of ideas or they got really lazy, but that's just my opinion.

Oh, sorry. Wasn't trying to start a fight. I just love Van Halen. I'm almost 40 and growing up, they were like Pearl Jam is to me now. I collected boots and posters and all that shit. Tried to go to a lot of shows. Dave originally quit when I was only 12 so I never got to see the original lineup. Just minus Mike in 2008. I do love Sammy as well since he was the singer when I really got into music at around 14 or so, so no matter how bitter or crazy he comes off as now, I still love his version of the band. F.U.C.K. is one of my all time favorite albums.

They changed my life as much as Pearl Jam did later. I can't wait to see them again and I cannot believe there is actually going to be a new album. Never thought I would see this.

If the cover song brings something new to the rerecording I'm all for them on anyone's album. Most times they're as good as the original track and in VH's case most were that good.

Loved Dave with VH and the Diamond Dave concert on his own is STILL in my top 10 of alltime of the over 500 shows I've seen. He kept coming up with surprises throughtout the concert including him playing steel drums. If this new album of there's is of ANY quality I MAY be tempted to try and see them and see if they can still put on a show since i first saw them on the DD tour. I even waited on Diamond Dave...real kool guy even though it was 3:30 in the morning.
