I agree. Why else would the GOP house members so strictly follow the party line? It's because if they don't, the GOP may take them out in the next primary.

when Ron Paul first ran for Congress, as a republican, the GOP recruited a former Democrat to run against him. The GOP and NEwt Gingrich heavily funded the stand-in Republican. Ron Paul still won.

and in the case of the payroll tax, there are good intentions on both ends. Both parties want to extend it. It's how to do it/pay for it that's getting in the way. Reading newspapers helps, guys.

Boehner and the GOP House are really fucking up with the payroll tax fiasco. The Democrats have them cornered and if they fail to pass the extension, every worker will see a 2% deduction in their weekly pay ... which is counterproductive to their whole "limited government" battlecry.

I'm getting to the point where I don't even see the value in voting anymore. Every move made is for votes. Nothing is based on common sense and good judgment.

We need a one-term limit and we need it now.

Term limits for the win...it should be, and never was supposed to be a career choice to be a senator or rep...

I'm kind of mixed about term limits. Isn't that why we have elections? People have the choice to limit anyone's term, why take that choice away? Shouldn't people that support an individuals liberty be against term limits?

yes and no...I would say that limiting the government, and peoples involvement in it actually does support liberty...In a perfect world term limits wouldn't be necessary, since we don't live in one we will have to settle. If we had a truly constitutionally limited federal government we wouldn't need them...we don't have that, and until we do term limits keeps people from abusing federal power for their own gains. If you want a career in government they are there...being a representative in the democracy should not be one of the careers you can choose...it is simply a title.
No one is limiting the amount of jobs you can run for, just the amount of times you can represent the same district in the same position. Get the corporate influence out of the government the need for term limits disappears.

there is a bill in Congress right now that would make insider trading for political players illegal. That would solve a huge chunk of the problem. quit bitching and write a letter, make a phone call, post stories on your facebook wall. Knowledge IS power. There are just too many apathetic, fair-weather constitutional supporters.

I am not one of them

can't tell if you were speaking to me directly...but I do contact my reps, more than most I would imagine...I attend town hall discussions...I also pay attention to the most important elections...local ones...
I agree that the insider trading bill would help, but it doesn't solve the problem.

He caved because he wants to go home for Christmas recess!

Well...I wouldn't doubt if that was at least somewhat true, anyway.

no he caved because him and his party had embarrassed themselves enough already in this fight. they though the country was going to go along with them in this fight and they grossly overplayed their hand. they think they know the electorate, but their position on this issue clearly shows that they do not...

could you imagine the backlash if they went home without settling this and all of our taxes went up a grand starting jan 1? how would it have looked to the american people that the man who has been dead set against raising taxes on the rich allowed them to be raised on over 160 million american workers? that would have given obama and boehner's future opponent all of the ammunition needed in the next campaign...and it would have guaranteed another term for obama. the people know that the gop is playing games with the economy to score political points, and it is not working. we are not as stupid as they think we are.

"this man single handedly raised YOUR taxes while fighting tooth and nail to protect the rich from having theirs go up a single penny..."

that would be a pretty damning campaign ad. and boehner knew it. he is an idiot, but he is not stupid...

can you say anything else in your posts other than i am supporting the 2 party system and i should wake up? you have said the same thing to me at least 3 times.

yes at the moment i am supporting the lesser of 2 evils in the 2 party system. it is clear who is the worst element of the 2 party system. i am voting in my own best interest and what i feel is the best interest of the country. nothing more, nothing less...here is a news flash for you...the 2 party system is not going away any time soon. when congress has an 8% approval rating, yet each congressman has a 55% of greater approval rating in their own district, nothing will change...i would vote out cantor and boehner et al if i could, but i can't because i live in a different district and state... so if you think you are doing anything earth shattering by supporting ron paul thinking he is going the change EVERYTHING, perhaps it is you who is the one who is asleep and dreaming and needs to wake up?
