Congress accomplished "nothing" in 2011

last night on CBS, Bob Schieffer (who has been around forever and is usually pretty even keeled) was visibly pissed and said congress had accomplished "nothing" in 2011.

I think he's right...other than fight with the other party and line their pockets with lobbyist money, these motherfuckers do nothing for us.

for this, we pay them $174,000 per year x 435 members = in excess of $75 million

    worst congress in american history.

unprecedented resistance to anything that will help this country.

the republicans in congress are playing politics with our economy and that to me is treason. they would rather see obama fail than do anything that they were put there to do. they would rather watch the country go down the shitter than work with this administration.

where the fuck is grover norquist now? why is he not railing against congress for raising taxes on most of us when the payroll tax expires on jan 1?

    fucking hypocrite!

truly....I'm just worried we have gotten so far down this partisan road that there's no turning back. I'm not optimistic.

there are definitely compromise ways to "fix" this country. unfortunately, there's no compromise to be had.

no tax increases on those rich people though... to the gop everything is swell as long as the rich don't get a tax increase.

obama could say that the grass is green and the house gop would disagree. there will be no compromise unless obama and the dems cave, as usual...

edit to add, i like bob schieffer. he was pissed, just like most of the rest of us..

It's awful. I hope the people that voted these people in last November are happy.

When I hear that Congress gets an 8% approval rating... I wonder, "Who the fuck are these 8% that think Congress is doing a good job?".
It has donned on me... the 8% are either the ones who are benefitting from Congressional deal making... or just too stupid to know what is actually happening here.

what good is a two month extension?

    on topic,

what could they have done that would solve the problems this country has?

They are the problem...I would say that inaction is probably better than any action either the democrats or the republicans will take.

honestly what do people think would save the country that this or any congress would be willing or able to do...

I'd say it's the top 1%...and the other 7% simply pay no attention to what they actually do. But 7% seems low for that total percentage.

If taxes are raised, do you think we would see any benefit from it? All it would serve is to make the current over-spending not look quite as bad.

you wont get anywhere blaming one party over the other. Congress is a joke, Obama is a joke and people who point fingers at one side rather than seeing the big picture are jokes, too.

They don't have to... It is automatic.

They voted to make the "cost of living" adjustments automatic, so they don't have to endure the bad press every time they vote on it. No more votes. Automatic.

Before you so quick to blame the Republicans remember Obama had for 2 years control of both houses and still has NOT been able to pass a budget. Health care narrowly passed at the cost of many Democratic Congressman. The problem is these jokers worry about their own jobs before they worry about the country. Bush was not a good President but was far better then this Vacationing President we have in office right now. C'mon, 17 days in Hawaii???????

How much time did Bush spend in Crawford during his presidency? Not supporting either, I just think its weak to attack Obama because he took a vacation.

the same could be said about Obama. This payroll tax thing is a joke. When the House passed their version, Obama urged the Senate not to pass it.....because HE WANTS TO GET REELECTED....even if it means WE suffer.

This morning, Speaker Pro Tempore Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA), under orders from Speaker Boehner, refused to allow Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to speak on the floor and ask for unanimous consent to bring up the Senate bipartisan compromise to extend the payroll tax cut. Whip Hoyer and Congressman Chris Van Hollen are continuing to try to offer the Senate compromise even though Republicans walked off the floor. Once again, Republicans are risking a tax increase on 160 million Americans and the loss unemployment benefits for those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.

NO, i would have you remember that as soon as obama got elected, mitch mcconnell came out on the record and said "the mission of the 112th congress was to make sure obama is a one term president". sounds pretty god damn obstructionist to me...no matter what obama wanted to do they opposed it without offering any suggestions. they are selfish and spineless pieces of crap.

    GOP= GRAND OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY

the ironic thing is the washington post came out today and ripped the house gop and said that obama is in a better position to win re-election right now than he was a year ago. it is because of the republicans in this congress playing games. the public realizes it now, and they are getting pissed..

the funny thing is the gop senators are coming out and bashing boehner and cantor and the rest of the congressional rank and file. it is hilarious to hear them criticize each other.

my theory is the only reason the gop is doing this is because each and every one of them is afraid that they will have to face someone more to the right of them in the next election, which based on this current congress is not possible. they need to worry about someone more moderate coming in and knocking their ass out of a job..
