I hunt. (not really, I shoot/harvest animals on my acreage)
    I own guns.
I hunt to hone survival skills and marksmanship skills, mostly, to be prepared in the event the grocery store is closed. Dont get me wrong, i love some young doe...
OR, more importantly, if "shit" hits the fan and some thugs think that the "place with lights on/generators) is a good target.

Well, to be fair and balanced, her only flaw was to not:

Identify the target and what is behind it and THEN destroy it

But, please amateurs, do not confuse yourself. If you pull a firearm, shoot to kill.

people USE guns to kill people just as they use knives or even their bare hands.

She didn't have to kill the guy. Her motives were clearly sinister. She should have shot him in a non-lethal spot, or just let him take what he wanted, as he probably needed it more than she did.

I know you are entitled to your opinion, and you may really think she was sinister in her motives. I disagree.

But as to the bold part,

1st. You always should shoot center mass. You should never pull the trigger in a self defense situation trying to simply hurt someone. they tell you as much in a hand to hand situation as well. If you are forced to fight for you life, you put the other guy down and make sure he stays there...if that means a few extra punches, a little longer on a choke hold, or one in the chest...so be it...the guy shouldn't have been attacking. It isn't the movies, people who have weapons in their homes aren't trained in pressure situations most of the time, things kick in and shooting center mass is the best way to hit the target. This guy put himself in that situation and was killed...it is a tragedy no doubt, but I would say it is worse for the the innocent woman who now has to live with having killed a person because of that persons selfish actions.
2nd. and most importantly, if the guy wanted to be alive he should have not tried to break into someones house he deemed an easy target. Need doesn't make it ok to steal and terrify.
I wonder what would have happened if he simply asked this woman for help if he was truly needy...based on his ignoring of the warning shots I would guess he couldn't have cared less about stuff and simply wanted to hurt her...i could be wrong, and you could be right, but I think the odds are in my favor on this one.

To each his own though I suppose. You could be right, and she could be a cold blooded murderer.

Personally... if someone keeps loaded firearms in their home for protection... fine... no problem. Intruders need to understand that they run the risk of armed response when they illegally enter someone else's home.
But... i really don't want these civilian vigilante types, wandering around the city I live in, stroking their stock, just looking for someone to shoot. I mistrust their judgement as much as I mistrust the criminal's judgement.

while its all well and good having a gun in your own home, this is just a recipe for disaster
If this gets passed anyone carrying will need to be well trained
not just on the use of a gun but also the laws so the victim realizes
they can not shoot someone unless they fear for their lives
or fear for great bodily harm.

This type of training should be made apart of gun ownership.

We need to empower our citizens who live on the right side of law.

Criminals will always have guns, time to take back the streets.
    It is only getting worse.
It could be your girl raped, your mother terrorized,
your father beaten left for dead in an alley for a watch and a wedding ring
    or less.

Whomever thinks this woman is the least bit guilty needs to meditate for awhile
and picture their own mother at the hands of this man entering her apartment.
Feel what she feels, and know you are putting your trust in the wrong person.

The perp here was on a mission ... 2 warning bullets didn't even stop him.

In my opinion, doing a bunch of what if's is ridiculous, properly train gun owners,
allow them to carry to protect themselves, their loved ones and maybe even yours
    or mine.

Way to add something constructive. Fact is, criminals do not follow the law. People who register their firearms and hold a CCW are far less likely to commit crimes than others. But, I wouldn't want you to be dissuaded from your trolling with facts and statistics.

Are these the same facts and statistics which indicate that the US has a far higher death rate per-capita than any other developed nation when it comes to the use of firearms? One thing I've come to appreciate is that facts and statistics mean nothing on the train.
  • usamamasan1usamamasan1 Posts: 4,695
Cross reference your death rate data with those that have a CCW. Then, get back with the facts.
I bet you will find that the "death rate" data you speak of does not apply to lawfull , registered handgun owners.

    This is what I speak.

    God bless

feel each others pain not look at statistics.

If there had been a well trained citizen to respond to the rape of a young college woman at 6pm
in a heavily populated area of GT a few weeks ago she would not have been brutalized and
one less asshole would be off the streets that would not hurt another young girl....
    maybe your daughter, sister, girlfriend....
there I go again trying to make it about real people....
