The last three shows have been a blast. I was in section 120 last night, row J, seat 5. What a great show. Cool guys behind me, to the side too. On my left were a couple who left after the main set, and spent the first five songs on line for some red girly drinks. Oh well, they seemed to dig the show in their own way. Caught a pick from Mike, which was a great thrill. Thanks ten club, thanks pearl jam.
Oh yeah, if you are paying more attention to how the crowd around you is responding, your mind is in the wrong place. If you dance it off, you hardly notice.
BTW, was anyone else surprised/dissapointed that we only got a 4 song 2nd encore and overall 27 songs? They have been averaging between 29-31 songs per show and particularily lately, 6-8 songs in the 2nd encore.
Did the Storytellers thing today have something to do with last night's show, dammit.
I had heard that there was an 11PM stop time for last night's show due to the Metro (the DC subway) closing at midnight on weekdays. I think that Metro has an agreement with MCI Center and the other area arenas that if a show or game runs over and Metro has to stay open past midnight the venue has to pay for the overtime - a not unsubstantial sum of $. The charge then gets passed along to the band/team. I'd bet that this effected the length of the 2nd encore.
The show ended a little after 11PM. I wonder if they got charged?
What did everyone think about "Rearviewmirror"? Was that not the best version ever, particularily the middle jam, at the end Stone was rockin out like a madman.

I was there too. For a DC crowd, that was actually pretty energetic. I get so tired of the I can't move a finger people. It's like Fugazi beat the dance out of us.
did anyone catch the Evens reference at the end there...something about Mt. Pleasant isn't anymore...
then they played all these governors after the show...

Anyone see the drunk dude in section 3 row Z? He kept falling all over the place, then finally took a nice piss right there on the floor. Poor janitor had to come mop it up.

The show actually ended at about 10:52pm. Since it was a weeknight, I have no problems with the early start and earlier finish. I've had to pay $30plus to get home from the 9:30 club in DC in the past because of bands playing past midnight.
We thought the metro closed at 1:30 am and hit Coyote Ugly. Upon leaving that place at 1:17 am, we were shocked to see the gates down on the metro. :(
Taxi ride was $30 to Alexandria. They should play Merriweather or Nissan, never had curfews there.
Did anyone see that huge black tour bus on the side of the street? Was that the bands?

I thought last night's show was great, but still thought Camden II was better from top to bottom. Highlights from last night were Release, I Got Id, and Masters of War -- and the entire first set really. However, both encores were lacking, and the worst part was the sound...it was really bad. The band also had way more energy at Camden II, especially Eddie. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't disappointed. But I don't think it was their best show.

Agree. 1st Chicago show was better IMO. The 2nd encore was really sad cause they came out with two in your face rockers, "Comatose", "Leash" and when they played "F-UP", I knew we only had one more song. Usually they play 4-5 songs before hitting the usual covers, "Rockin, F-Up, Baba". Oh well.

My first Pearl Jam show in 10 years and it was definitely a great time. I agree though that the sound was lacking in some places though, particularly during Mike's solos. At times, the reverb/echo effects dominated the music and the low-end became very muddled so that I couldn't even find where the beat was anymore. Not sure if that's an arena thing or a sound board thing.
Otherwise, I have been waiting forever to finally catch them and it was completely worth the wait, though I don't plan on waiting that long again!
ahhhh....what can i say! it was my first pearl jam show and it totally rocked!!! highlights for me were dont be shy, eddie tossin the tambourines to the two disabled women (i thought that was nice), and mike playin the star spangled banner.

How did I miss that? I love that song. Only other time outside of last night that I sang like a maniac was at Operation Ceasefire to Mount Pleasant. Ian encouraged that one though.
15 years ago, I was a pop-addled 16 year-old living in the cloistered environment of an air base in Germany with no clue about top-notch, inspirational rock and roll. That summer, a family friend passing through town for work handed me a cassette tape. "You have to listen to this," he said. "I got this from a buddy of mine who works at a radio station in LA. It will blow your mind."
That tape contained Nirvana's Nevermind on Side A...but on side B I found my musical future -- it was Ten, and I was hooked for life.
Here I am at 31, with my first child on the way, and I am thrilled to report that after nearly two decades in existence, the boys of Pearl Jam are still delivering the goods.
Last night's concert was a beautiful live-music experience and my favorite concert experience ever. Let's start with the front-man. Eddie was in great voice from moment one and full of energy from beginning to end. What a contrast with Nissan in 2003, when he clearly suffered from "worn-out throat syndrome". I chalk this up to the difference between catching him in May as opposed to July. Though as some have referenced, 2003's "Better Man" was an incredible delivery of that song.
Then let's talk about Mike McCready, whose energy sets the tone for the rest of the band. His skills and insane energy were on full display. He bounced and jumped all over the stage, and I thought he frequently took the lead in ensuring that the band recognized the fans behind the stage (though Eddie also pointedly referenced the fans on the sides, too). I shouldn't slight Ament, Gossard, Cameron, or Gaspar, though, because last night was an example of what a cohesively excellent band Pearl Jam has become.
Now, let's talk set list -- Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, Merkinball, No Code, Binaural, Yield, Pearl Jam -- all were represented. Now, I'm not particularly a fan of most of Binaural and a good portion of Yield, but for fans of those albums, it must have been great to hear Given to Fly, Low Light, Grievance, etc. I particularly enjoyed Release (nice to hear a classic!), Why Go, MOW, Comatose (love that aggressive little rocker!), Severed Hand (incredible song) and Eddie's substitution of Fuckin' Up for RITFW. It is interesting to me that not a single song from Riot Act was played -- I would have loved to hear Love Boat Captain -- but cest la vie!
But mainly, what I enjoyed boiled down to two thoughts -- how fantastic is it for us fans that Pearl Jam's repertoire is so solidly excellent from first album to last that they can pull songs from nearly every studio album to put together an excellent show? And, how awesome is it that after 15 years, this band still consistently rocks the house at a live show? And that they seem to be stronger now than they were in the No-Code-Binaural years? The boys have commented in the press that the new album seems to be their "new engine" -- and they certainly revealed the truth of that comment last night. I pray that this new engine lasts for years and years to come.
Thanks once again, Pearl Jam, for a thoroughly enjoyable concert experience -- and for reminding me why I fell in love with you 15 years ago, and have remained a steadfast fan!
I Got Shit was definitely a highlight for me... oh man!! What a good setlist, BIIIGGGGGGG improvement over Nissan '03...
I had a blast, THAANNKK YOU 10C for killer seats... I only wanna do inside arenas now, I can't see at places like Nissan, Tweeter, and Merriweather where there aren't any sides... I had a better time at DC than at Camden cause I could SEEEEE!
Man I jumped just about the whole show, I couldn't jump the entire time in Comatose I was beat!!!
Sorry to anyone behind me or next to me (I was in 120 P seat 5), I tend to put my arms up a lot and jump a lot!!
It was cute, after the band left the stage I could see in the back area cause they had the curtains off, and they all walked away arms around each others backs, like "Good show guys!". Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
WHAT A GOOODD SHOOOWWW!!! Second favorite show, I've been to five, it falls right behind Philly '05

killer tidbit. thanks for sharing.
hey, i saw you a few times. i was kind of seated behind you a few rows back. you were wearing light pink? and i so know what you mean....it's so nice to be able to see....not just peoples heads. nice pics btw.
*~Pearl Jam will be blasted from speakers until morale improves~*
I was at the show last night. I've seen them quite a few times (in the 30s) and I didn't think this one was that great. Sure, there were some highlights -- why go, I got Shit, Release, Masters of War, Animal-- but overall not anywhere near the best I've seen.
I didn't particularly feel like any of the guys were that into. Stone perked up at a few points. But nothing like the energy and enthusiasm I'm used to seeing at a show.
The setlist was also, in my opinion, strange. The first set was very up and down. They never really played a bunch of straight ahead rockers in a row.
From where i was sitting, it was impossible to hear Mike on half his solos. Eddie was also difficult to pick up at several points.
Great seats, though. Thanks Ten Club. 2nd Row, just about center.
Just my opinion on all this. Still had a blast, but after seeing soooo many amazing performance, I guess I'm getting a little greedy.

I thought the DC show was pretty good. The sound was pretty bad for the first handful of songs or so, but as soon as they hit Unemployable, everything seemed to sound much better....and for the rest of the night, I thought the sound was awesome, considering we were in a huge arena. I mean, if you think the Verizon Center is bad, go to the United Center in Chicago...talk about a horrible place to see a show.
The setlist was solid, but songs like Even Flow and RVM and Grievance and Release (which I've now heard open 5 or 6 times out of the 9 shows I've been to...how does this happen?) just don't do much for me anymore. Maybe if they shortened RVM and Even Flow, and put a couple more songs in, it would be better. But halfway through, the setlist just got ridiculous. Comatose is now one of my new favorites live...does anyone else agree? It rocked hard. Follow that with Leash, and I was in headbanger heaven.
Also, the only other complaint was the fuckjob security crew we had over in section 112. Every two seconds they were flashing their lights into the crowd, or running up the stairs to yell at someone. Some people wonder why people stand around at PJ shows? Multiple people in section 112 and 113 were yelled at for dancing....complete BS. Fucking rent-a-cops. I mean, it got real annoying and people started paying more attention to them than PJ. I thought there was going to be a fight at one point.

I tend to agree with this. I've only been to 10 shows, but this one is definitely near the bottom in terms of quality. The one strength it had was set list, but energy from the band and from the crowd are huge factors in what makes a show great. And this show really didn't have either of those things. Combine that with poor audio, and it just wasn't as good as many of the others. However, a bad Pearl Jam show is still better than any other concert on earth!
