I am pleased with how it went. It was professional, but relaxed too.

Thanks everyone! Now, on the Thank You cards... drop them off today or tomorrow? What's the consensus here?

If they are making their decision by Thursday, I would send them a quick email if you have their email addresses. If not, drop them off today. Nothing overly complicated, just say thank you and mention one or two things personalized to the person you met with.
  • Here's to hoping for that phone call tomorrow asking you when you can start! I'll be thinking of you and your interview, sending positive Chi to the radio station folks and sending out positive vibes for your eventual hire all day tomorrow.

Good luck and start practicing your Wolfman Jack voice or be ready to formulate your own on air personality, channeling Les Nesman maybe? Or how about a BooYaa!

    Peace.

I don't know if I'll have the opportunity to play music, but I assure you if I do, I will!

I dropped off Thank You cards at about 3:30 on the day of the interview. Today is supposedly the day they will decide... I'm wondering if I should contact them by a certain time if I haven't received any kind of contact?

OK heres 10 easy tips to ensure a guaranteed job placement:

    1. make sure you have a great night before with your buddies. Go to a bar, get drunk, perhaps even drive.
    2. Once home, make sure to go to bed as late as possible, this ensures a better chance of a hangover
    3. Wake up only an hour or less before the interview. This ensures there is no time wasted for preparation. Just get ready and go!
    4. Make sure you dont eat or drink anything. This ensures an achy body due to the hangover.
    5. Dont shower either. chances are, your up and coming boss will not like your cheap body wash smell. B-O is the way to go!
    6. Take the longest and most enjoyable route to said job interview. This ensures an enjoyable drive, be sure to blast your favorite tunes as well. You dont want to be there early, that shows desperation. Its always good to be fashionably very very late.
    7. When meeting him, dont shake his hand. Instead, hug him.
    8. Dont start out talking about the job. Instead, talk about how much fun you had last night. this shows him that you dont take the job seriously and your there to have fun. Nobody likes a person who takes a job too seriously.
    9. If you must talk about the job, tell him you applied because your desperate for a job, not because you actually wanted the job. This shows him that your aware of the shitty economy and he will get your sympathy vote.
    10. If you feel everything is going well, interrupt him and tell him you need to use the bathroom. But dont actually use the bathroom, just go home. You did a good job, no need to waste more of his time when you already know you got the job!

I hope you guys have a sense of humour

So, the decision was supposed to come today (Thursday) and I didn't hear anything. Bad sign?

In any case, I'm going to call tomorrow around 2:00 pm.

I might give it later than that. They may have made their decision today but aren't calling until tomorrow. How did you leave it with them? Did you use my advice of asking "when will I be hearing from you?" as the interview ended.

He made it very clear as to when the decision would be made, so I didn't want to push the issue. May have been a bad choice on my part. But he clearly said "We will be making our decision on Thursday and will let you know the outcome."

I didn't really know how to add to that so I just accepted it and said "I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks so much for you time this morning."

Later than 2:00 pm? When would you contact them, in the scenario that you hadn't heard back by 2:00 pm on Friday? Is that a clear sign that it's a no-go?

Not really. If they did tell you they would contact you, me personally, I wouldn't call until Monday. That's just me. Hopefully some other members can chime in here with some advice.

No hard fast rules here. Do what you feel is right. Perhaps something came up that pushed communication down the priority list. Ya never know. If by 2pm tomorrow you feel like calling then do it.

I just lost out on a possible job. Was told I would hear by noon yesterday if I HAD it. No call came. All I do know is that means I dont start on mondays orientation. Could still get a call, but I gotta work so on to the next one!!!

I would wait until at least Monday, maybe later, before calling. They already know you want the job and are considering you. You don't need to re-emphasize your interest by bugging them about it. If they hired you, you can trust that they'll let you know. They'll call you when it's a good time for them to call you. If they didn't do what they said they'd do exactly on time - whether it's because they had a good reason (that it's not your place to question) or because they're slackers - they certainly don't want you pointing that out to them and whoever else might take/receive your message.

I was about to say that calling them won't change whether you got the job or not, so just be patient and don't annoy them before you start. But then I remembered this one time we offered someone a job - a really big, important, career-making job - but during the couple of days she was working out whether it was the best move for her, she bugged us so much that we decided she was too high maintenance and had to figure out a way to retract our offer.

Haha... I just remembered another story with another applicant for this really big position: My boss said he'd let her know in a week (or something) whether or not she got the job. We liked her so much that we wanted to hire her without interviewing anyone else, but we couldn't offer her the job without making sure that we weren't going to get in trouble for not interviewing anyone else. And we wanted to get all our ducks in a row to be sure we could offer her what she wanted. Plus, we're just really busy with other things. So the time frame we gave her came and went and my boss didn't contact her. He actually emailed her to say he would call her the next day when he got back from a conference, but she hadn't checked her email yet. So she sent her best friend a text in the middle of the night saying, "I don't think [insert our company name here] wants me!! :-(" Only she accidentally sent it to my boss instead - you know, the guy she's trying desperately to impress - and woke him up in the middle of the night before his big presentation. She hasn't started yet, but when she does she's never going to live that down.

I just heard back from them an unfortunately I did not get the position. However, they did express that they were impressed with me during the interview and thus would like to offer me to come aboard as a fill-in for the weekends. I'll take what I can get. :)

Thanks for everyone's advice and good thoughts.

I just heard back from them an unfortunately I did not get the position. However, they did express that they were impressed with me during the interview and thus would like to offer me to come aboard as a fill-in for the weekends. I'll take what I can get. :)

Thanks for everyone's advice and good thoughts.

    That's something! Congratulations!

 so at least you can wow them over time, and get on full time in the future!

I'm sorry you didn't get the job, but you've now got your foot in the door which is a HUGE step! (was that a pun :? ) After one weekend they'll be begging you to stay on f/t!

It's not fully what you expected but it's better than nothing. Now my advice is take that fill in position and run with it. Own that shit. Make them realize it was a great decision to keep you and grow. They want you around and see a future for you. Make it come true...the ball is in your court!  :clap:
