  • The crowd seemed really into it tonight, which is odd because I was side stage tonight and last night I was on the floor. Maybe that's because I was more into it tonight? Either way they were both awesome shows, I'm glad I went to both because there's no way I could say which was better!

EDIT: And about the shortness of the sets for both nights, I may just be making excuses for the band here but it seemed to me that the management pretty much kicked them out. For example, last night the house lights were up for pretty much the whole second encore, and it just seemed to me like the stadium staff were trying to get them off the stage.

lights come on before the show is over (as far as I can tell from 00 & 03 boots) the band likes to see the crowd at the end of the show.

I noticed in Halifax when Ed came out to do Drifting, as he was chatting up the crowd a bit, his voice seemed a bit hoarse, kinda like most of us sound the morning after a show..

I too was suprised how early the show Saturday ended, but it did start earlier.. maybe the band wanted to hit George Street themselves tonight..

Could also be the travel time they need to get out of Newfoundland and down to Pittsburgh for the next show..

Regardless, we loved having the guys do 3 shows in the Atlantic Provinces, an area often forgotten as many bands think Canada ends in Montreal.

I hope the east coast hospitality was enough to bring the band back next time around.

i thought those shows would be better too,
but i have to say WINNIPEG was the gem of the tour.....it was really special
the oceans made me, but who came up with love?
  • I was on Stone's side of the stage tonight (right behind Boom) and at the end of the 2nd Encore, someone pulled Eddie to the side and were pointing to their watch... Eddie looked pissed and went and told Jeff and Matt... I guess management REALLY did want them to get off stage.

Anyway... we got the setlist from the guitar tech after the show.. they cut out a LOT of songs.

Oceans, Last Exit, Animal, State, Hail Hail, Corduroy, Wishlist, Dissident, Deep, Even Flow, Insignificance, You Are, In My Tree, I Got Shit, 1/2 Full, Black, Go

Bee Girl, Man Of The Hour, (Off He Goes) , Crazy Mary, Crown Of Thorns, Alive

Light Years, Jeremy, RVM, Betterman, Fuckin Up, Rockin In The Free World, Yellow Ledbetter

I was 3rd row, and while it was rockin, it wasn't like it should have been. The reason being is that they added this second show while people were in line for tickets to the first show. Therefore, a lot of casual fans, basically people who are going just for the sake of a concert, got prime tickets. I'm talkin the first 10 rows or more. Add on top of that the fact that there was no ten club seats for this show, and you have a decent explanation as to why the crowd didn't seem as into it. Saturdays show definetely had a more energetic feel to it, but Rocking in the Free World (w/Wintersleep) more than made up for the apparent lack of energy. That was absolutely stunning. All in all, a great fucking weekend.

wrong they did that in camden 03 and the 2nd night was so much better

God, that sucks with the management thing!!! Sometimes I feel there's a disconnect between venue staff here in Newfoundland and the actual fans...I don't think the venue realized how special a deal it was to have the boys here...or maybe they did and I'm just venting.

I thought the show was great though...some very special moments with crowd interaction, etc. Bee Girl was great, and a rare treat. Crazy Mary was amazing, and Black...WOW....what was the ending there? I liked it a lot, whatever it was.

  • ANybody want to trade this show for the Ottawa concert. They killed it here in Ottawa with a fully energetic crowd. give me a shout macass5@hotmail.com if you're serious.

    Cheers!
  • You know what's better than seeing your first Pearl Jam show?
Seeing your second one the night after.

Unfortunately, I just learned that I missed Ed's preset of, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away. Which is a little bit of a letdown, but I'm not too tore up over it. I knew going in that there may have been a preset or a song with Pearl Jam joining the Wintersleep fellas. So, I have nobody to blame but myself. I'm assuming he played it, while people were coming in? I dunno.

Anyways, tonight's show was off the map. It was definately as enjoyable as the first night but there were the little differences, of course. Tonight I had seats on the side corner of the stage. GREAT seats. You were so close to the action, it was almost like being on stage with them. You could see every move, every laugh, every cigarette Eddie light up. Awesome!

The setlist tonight was a little more diverse than what I was expecting. They opened up with Elderly Woman, then floated into a great version of Last Exit, in which Eddie screamed to the top of his lungs. Animal, was played again, but still rocked the house. Oh, before I go any further I'm tellin' ya the lights were fan-fucking-tastic. It added so much to the whole performance. Surprisingly, State of Love and Trust was played. They then blasted back to back with Hail Hail and Corduroy. Man, I really love Corduroy more now than I ever did. A couple of slower tunes followed as they played Wishlist (lighters everywhere) and Dissident (by request). Even Flow plowed up next and had the crowd bouncin'! A couple of songs that took me a few seconds to identify were Insignificant and You Are. Still, they were really good. Then Eddie, under a spotlight, played an awesome version of In My Tree. Amazing sight to see. Another surprise, as they played I Got Shit. A lot of people in my section were really into this song. I loved how the whole back area went NUTS whenever Eddie would make the slightest glance over his shoulder towards us. He teased the crowd the whole night, it was great. Black was beautifully done again tonight, and I'm glad too. It was really sweet hearing "Do Be Dop Dop Be Do Be Do" over and over again as the whole crowd was scattered with lighters. An action pact version of Go ended the first set and everyone went CRAZY for it. It's one of the most energetic Pearl Jam songs performed on both shows, in my opinion.

The first encore done with the group all seated. The beginning saw Eddie and Jeff alone under a spotlight. Eddie said how hard it was to write songs while "stoned out of his mind on pot". He then explained how Jeff and himself wrote the next one, Bee Girl. Man of The Hour was next and Eddie said it was wrote about one of his best friends, Johnny Ramone. I LOVED how they played Crazy Mary, it was one of the ones I was hoping they play tonight that they didn't play last night. A powerful performance of Alive ended the first encore. The place ate it up!

The second encore started as the boys came back on stage and Eddie talked about how he found a piece of paper in his pocket and was a note from someone who's friend had just past away. It said how he was a huge Pearl Jam fan and asked could the guys play a song for him. They then played Light Years, which was a nice tribute. Another crowd favorite was next with Betterman. The kicker for the whole show was the much anticipated, Jeremy. The place was ape shit for it, lights flashing, people cheering, screaming and hands everywhere you could see. It was a highlight for sure. The show ended with Eddie inviting the guys from Wintersleep on stage for Rockin' in the Free World. Simply amazing performance by all.

Some notes overall though. The show seemed to go by quicker tonight for some reason. But it was still excellent by all means. The seats we had tonight were so much different. We had a completely different vantage point, as we got to see all types of stuff that we wouldn't have seen if we werent so close. Like Eddie lighting smoke after smoke during the guitar breaks, or Eddie going behind the stage and empting a water bottle and filling it with wine, only to throw it into the crowd. Another great moment was, and the song escapes me at the moment, but anyways..it was when he had a mirror and reflected into the crowd, shining it on several Newfoundland flags along the way. Incredible.

Overall, I was extremely grateful to have seen them, not once but twice. I can't wait to see them again in the future. Be it here or somewhere else. I'm positive that I'm leaving stuff out, but I'm sure I'll hear or read something that will refresh my mind. Everything about the show and the entire weekend really was a buzz. Seems like everyone I've spoken to had a great weekend too. I'm really glad everyone did because it's not that often that the city gets a show of this magnitude. If you're a huge Pearl Jam fan, a casual Pearl Jam fan, or you barely knew them, I think its safe to say everyone had one hell of a time!

    Thank You Pearl Jam.

the crowd was into it tonight! I was there last night and tonights crowd was way louder. keep in mind the venue held maybe 8000 people max, it's not a very big place compared to other venues they have played on the tour.

Amazing show! there is no such thing as a bad pearl jam concert in my opinion because they f**king rock no matter what!

Although it was a shorter than expected set, the songs were all awesome, they played some of them like i have never heard before.
To everyone, listen to wishlist from tonights set, incredible!!

This has been the best weekend of my life, seeing pearl jam two nights in a row when i have been waiting 14 years to see them!, Can't wait to see them again!!!

I love Pearl Jam and I love Canada!!

    cheers everyone

Thanks boys for another AMAZING NIGHT. Still trying to wrap my head around this weekend. Get comfy cause this my be another long rambling of utter joy. Not promising you'll be able to follow this cause my brain is still crazy thinking about the concert so its probably gunna be all over the place.

Well to start things off I only got tixs for Sundays show last week when they release some. I thought I was gunna miss out, but with some stroke of luck more tickets were released.I had pretty sweet seats (section 121, 2 sections back from the stage on Stones side, right by the glass) . I got a great view of the stage and I think I managed to get some sweet pics. Surprisingly I think I had way better seats tonight then last nights ten club seats (but HUGE thanks to Ten Club for giving me any tickets lol).

Theres been a few comments about the lack of rarities in the setlist for the second show. But in my opinion this weekend was awesome. Pearl Jam played Newfoundland, they coulda got on that stage and sung the exact same set as last night or played the spoons or did the hanky panky or something and I still woulda enjoyed myself and I think it was the same kinda feeling for a lot of other Newfies or other concert rookies. Hey they coulda stopped in Halifax, I am forever greatful. That was the best 2 concerts to come here.

Opening with Small Town, Last Exit, Animal, SOLAT, Hail Hail. . . .it was awesome, the crowd seemed so much more into then last night (at least from where I was), really high energy during those first few songs. But then the people on both sides of my pair of tickets SAT DOWN....jesus what is wrong with you people lol jk, didnt think about it, just rocked out to the greatest band of my generation (maybe ever).

The disco ball (i cant remember what song that was for the life of me) and the lights throughout the show were awesome. Ed reflecting the mirror into the crowd was a pretty sweet visual.

Although I was hoping for some rarities tonight, Im really happy with what I heard lol. I got a few of my own personal gems I was praying for. IN MY FUCKING TREE lol, Bee Girl, You Are, Got Shit was excellent. Light Years, Crazy Mary, Man of the Hour. .....BAH the whole show was awesome for me. Cant wait to get the boots for these two shows.

Man i think there was some major teasing though tonight. When Eddie was talking to the crowd about the Liar poster he saw, and figured it mighta been in response to the beat down he gave to that girls ex boyfriend and told those who werent there Saturday a brief summary of the story. Which led into a small ranting about Bush and others US political big wigs saying they were the liars not him and i was sure we were gunna get Bush-Leauger. . .but no luck. Then when he was introducing Black i missed the beginning when he was talking about the first album and how when wrote it he didnt think anyone was ever gunna hear it, and how he bared his soul so much (dont know where my head was, just trying to soak it all up in a slight dase i guess). . . so when he mentioned "washing clean" or something like that just before the song started I was getting all excited thinking we were getting Wash (but I guess that wasnt teasing just me not paying attention at the time). Then during the second encore, the guy in the front couple rows (mikes side) that Ed gave a tamourine to passed Ed up the Rebulic Of Newfoundland flag i was hoping he was gunna do something like Hamilton (with the Canada flag wrapped around him) woulda made a great pic but oh well.

Jermey was awesome crowd went nuts (First time hearing any Pearl Jam song live is sweet lol cant help but rock out), probably the loudest the crowd was all night. I got a great pic of Jeff under that orange spotlight (i hope). . .Rocking in the Free World might come close on crowd respone definately second. It was great to have the house lights up and seeing how much everyone was into it.

As for the band I thought Mike had another awesome night rocking out, he was awesome during the Evenflow solo (WAHHHHHHH), Boom was sweet during his solo. Never forget Ed SLAMMING the mic stand around and I thought his vocals were great all weekend. Jeff was rocking out tonight too jumping around with Mikeand Ed, thanks to Stone I cant get Dont Giveme No Lip outta my damn head, Matt, thanks for the stick lol you guys rocked.

I had an excellent excellent weekend. I cant put how happy/excited I am into words.

Oh............ after the show i met the guy who got the set list and I took a look at it and I was HEART BROKEN to see Oceans crossed out as the opener. I thought for sure with the beauty of the atlantic all around our city and the bands visit to Singal Hill (amazing view for those who have never been here) Oceans would be played, to find out it was supposed to be and not hear it, shitty. Then I look down the list. . . .MORE songs crossed out, Deep, Fuckin' Up (why, why??), RVM and Yellow Ledbetter probably missing some too. So even though i completely enjoyed myself tonight that was a little saddening to see what he had planned for us vs what we got (although we still got an amazing show. The same guy actually had the bands schedule and curtain was scheduled for 10. I think there might be some kinda curfew for Sunday's maybe? Maybe thats why it was so short. . .cant see them playing 10oclock curtain on the second night of the last stop on the tour if there wasnt a reason for it. They did play till after 10 but it was still like 40 minutes or so shorter then Saturday.

Either way, thanks for rocking Newfoundland, giving me memories I will have a lifetime (once i chill out and remember it all). Met some really cool people (hopefully we'll all stay in touch). Whoever decided Pearl Jam was gunna come to Newfoundland, I love you, I want to shake your hand lol

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Cheers

SERIOUSLY - all you downers are crazy, regardless of whether of not there was even a show (even though last night WAS fucking awesome) Pearl Jam - THE ONE AND ONLY PEARL JAM - was in Newfoundland! PEARL JAM- IN NEWFOUNDLAND- hello??? Does the very idea of that not outdo any show of the tour???

In reply to the first part, the disco ball was during Wish List.
Also, yeah, I loved the lights as well. Just added to the whole atmosphere.

But anyways, thanks to the fellas for actually coming to this city (or town to some) of ours.
Short set or not, people rocking out or not, etc. They rocked my socks off, so it's all good to me for my first 2 Pearl Jam shows!hah

  • Hope this is nobody we know... from http://www.vocm.com.

A visitor to the province has fallen victim to the waves at Cape Spear. An extensive search was initiated last evening after the 24 year old man was apparently swept off the rocks. The young man was with three friends taking pictures of the swells when a wave dashed over the rocks and dragged him into the water. His companions called for help just after 7:30pm. The Coast Guard, Rovers, Police and Fire Department, responded. Heavy seas did not help the search effort.

  • The first time I saw the Dave Matthews Band live, I knew that I'd have to see them again. The same can be said for Pearl Jam. I must go again. Too much fun. Too funky. Too Much Live Raw Pure Audacity. I already miss it.

I suspect I'll be waiting a long, long time for them to come back to Newfoundland (THANKS 200 MILLION TIMES FOR COMING HERE AT ALL; WE ALL APPRECIATE IT SO VERY MUCH) so I guess it's their next summer tour that I'll be hitting. Maybe somewhere completely interesting.

  • Yeah, kinda strange. Like they were in a hurry to get da hell outta there.

Actually ... they were in a hurry to get out of there.

Immediately after the band left the stage, the crew invaded the stage and proceeded to dismantle the bands gear.

2 of the 5 trucks used to transport the bands production had to be across the Island in 12 hours in order to get the Ferry to North Sydney, Nova Scotia on their way to Pittsburg. The other 3 trucks were going to Atlantic City and the 11a.m. departure (Ferry) was not an issue.

  • both shows were AMAZING, im still having a hard time belieiving they came(even though i seen them with my own eyes...TWICE!!). they played state of love and trust!!!! fucking incredible!. i also enjoyed the story about the girl and her asshole boyfreind as well, and how eddie gave him shit in show 2. the energy in the second show was just amazing, the crowed seemed much more alive than the first. i think i would rather the set list from show 1 though...partly because of save you and rearveiw mirror(i almost lept out of my skin) from where i was sitting, it seemed that the song that people loved most was "go", they loved it, everybody was moving. i think the closers were equal for both shows, they way they played baba o'reily and then cut into yellow ledbetter in the show 1, and then keep rockin in the free world with wintersleep in the second. which reminds me...wintersleep was fuckin awesome too! i was sooo glad when i heared they were opening. it's not a show i will soon forget

As a veteran concert goer, I am always amused when someone talks about what they "expect" from a show. Gnit picking is a waste of time. Let's Get Binary and straighten a few things out:

    - was it awesome YES

    Therefore, a complete success.

    - did all the band members survive and seem happy about it YES

    - did all the fans survive? YES, it would appear so.

    Therefore, a complete success.
    An Unqualified success.

Not something that needs to be debated, really. Anyway, just opinions.
On the binary scale. Rocked - YES. Rolled - YES. happied - YES

    that's a grand slam.

(I mean NO Offence to you, the poster above me. I am trying to make
my point around you, not through you.)

  • I don't care what any of the people say about the show not being energetic or not as good as you were hoping! That's crazy talk! The show was top notch...an unreal set list! I'm soooo glad that they played State of Love and Trust and You are the most! I'm still pumped here! I was in Row D (Stone's side) too and had an awesome view. The Venue (Mile One Stadium) has to be the best ever...there are no bad seats there! My throat is gone this morning...i went absolutely nuts. I know me and my friends drank more beer back in high school listening to Pearl Jam just imagining what it would be like if they came here. It's so amazing that it actually happened! We've never had anything like this here before, so I will say on behalf of all Newfie's that this is a dream come true and a fantastic couple of nights that will never ever be forgotten or topped! Rock on b'ys!

  • There have been a lot of shows here in St. John's over the years and the great ones all came down to quality not quantity!
Many great artists that have played here sucked because they didn't know when to quit. But the great ones knew when it was time to stop and leave us screaming for more.

For example David Bowie's St. John's show was less than 2 hours long and so was Bob Dylan's but they were as amazing as Pearl Jam's show last night. In contrast, Rod Stewart's St. John's show was too long and it dragged.

Look, Eddie and the boys simply kicked ass and rocked the Mile One Stadium last night and I for one could care less about about counting the minutes.
  • I thought both shows ROCKED!!! they only confirmed the fact that PJ is the best band ever!!!!! Hope to see them back here again some day, they seemed to enjoy themselves so ya never know.... Thanks again PJ and crew for 2 awsome nights

  • I can't believe that anyone could be negative or dissatissfied with any Pearl Jam show.... They were amazing, as they always are. There was definitely a special energy running through the band last night, which in turn flowed through all the audience. The decision to play Jeremy blew me and my friend away, and I think I speak for all Newfoundlanders when I say we felt honored and very special that PJ would grace our little island with thier love and music. Immense gratitude emmanates today from the minds and hearts of all the newfies I know for the fact that we got to see Pearl Jam right here in our own home. I heard the boys had a really good time @ Bianca's, a very nice restaurant here downtown, and i can only hope that they enjoyed the experience so much, that they will actually come back someday. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart, i saw PJ in toronto in 2000, and last night made me love the band even more.....if that was possible....Thanks again, JenD
