i really hope they work with timbaland

ok, i'd love for them to bring some funk on the next album. Not a lot...just a dabbling. A few songs with some great hooks ala alone or in hiding (as has already been said). and a song on the accordion so they can redeem themselves for "bugs". And one song that really features Matt and Jeff. that's not too much to ask.

I bet the results of the upcoming election will weigh heavily on the type of album we get.
This is a desperate time, people are losing their jobs , their homes and commiting suicide. On top of it all the next President has to deal with a failed foreign policy.
There is a shit load the band can write about.
I hope we get an agressive but yet uplifiting album. I would like to see them open things up more, build on songs like Severed Hand and Marker.
I would be open to 6 - 8 minute jam songs with awesome hooks that build and build until it fucking explodes.
    Let's go boys!!!!!!

    turn up the volume.

Are you KIDDING? Pearl Jam masters their CD's as loud as humanly possible, just like all the other modern rock groups. They need to turn the volume DOWN.

I don't care what the album sounds like, just as long as the songs aren't as generic and lame as Avocado.

i can't believe i am the first to say this in this thread....

they should hire timbaland as a producer!
  • screw timbaland, go with danger mouse.

actually, i hope it's more experimental than not, the albums that most people consider experimental (yield, binaural, vitalogy) tend to be my favorite, so if those are the experimental albums, I would love some more of that. in any case, i hope im surprised

lol so true. I cant even imagine what the next albums artwork is going to look like. That freakin avacado is imprinted in everyones heads now, its like their new logo they have to stick with lol. I can only picture a white background with very simple artwork at most lol.

    Some more great acoustic songs.
Like daughter, off he goes, thumbing my way.
And some more songs like Wishlist.
And off course some heavier stuff.

i'd like to hear something a lot more experimental and varied than the last one, even though i still quite like avacado

I really want it to have alot of jams in it, sort of jam band style. I doubt this would ever happen but who knows.

I would be happy with this.

Or some really bluesy songs with extended solos galore.

I don't have high hopes. Ninth album. How many bands can make a classic album this late in their career? I think we've heard every solo Mike has in him. I hope I'm wrong.

+1 - and I don't even really care about Mike solos. Just 12 good songs would be nice, as 40% of Avocado isn't very good.

i'd like them to strike a good balance. the straightforward, hard rock stuff, some acoustic/folksy/slow-burning tunes, some experimental stuff as well

plus i don't get all this hating on avocado..I love it and I think it has some of their strongest and most consistent material in a while

    Grunge Revival!!!

more mike solos at the end of a song ala life wasted & severed hand from the last album.

more stone intro riffs ala alive & in hiding. :D

I was just thinking this today, how much I'd like to see the same thing on the newer album. As well as cleaner, clearer vocals by Ed. I loved Avacado but the production was horrendous. I know Brendan will make it right and I can't fucking wait.

Totally. The last 3 albums have sounded pretty bad in my opinion.

Yes! I love the feeling and depth of Yield...along with how uplifting it is, so I'd love to see more of that, along with great riffs...from Stone. I'd love to hear them do some blues, too.

Really excited as well for Brendan to be working. I'd like some songs with a good sounding acoustic guitar, sounding dirty. Not too dirty, just a little. Then some electric over that, like All or None. I'd like to hear that expanded. Some Stone grooves! Some Jeff songs like Low Light, a couple catchy/poppy tunes like unemployable/parachutes, and Ed really allowing the music he writes to be built upon. It's seemed lately music Ed writes is as af the band hasn't really had a chance to throw in their own little ideas. Let Matt do what he wants, but record those drums better. Let Jeff play a more prominent role but without being the center of the song, like The Real Me. Turn his bass up. A few nice hard rock tunes with some funk, a couple jammier songs like a mix between inside job and present tense, and let's have Mike throw out a few gems like Down.

This really sounds like being picky, but i'm really not, haha, this would pretty much just be a dream come true.

Exactly what I was thinking, except no fucking fade outs in the middle of Mike's solos. It almost ruins the whole song.

The fade out on "In The Moonlight" seriously aggrivates me everytime...because I just get teased with Mike's rock!!! You can hear that sick pattern he's smoothly playing as the track fades to an end...

    bastards!

I'd like to see a Vitalogy/Yield feel going on. I love the collaborations and contributions of all band members...I find it a little hoggish when one person takes over all the work, and that isn't just musically, I mean in all aspects.

  • You people are assuming that the album will sound better if Brendan is involved. The sound problems with the last 3 albums mostly stem from the extreme mastering, and not the recording itself. Yield (Brendan's last album) was recorded BEFORE the loudness wars, so it's likely not going to be the same this time. Also, keep in mind that Brendan remixed several tracks on "Binaural", and it still sounded like shit after the mastering engineer got his hands on it. Some of the mixes on Lost Dogs have surfaced in pre-mastered form on an Epic promo CD, and they sound infinitely better.

Yeah, I think they could put forth more effort on making another unique album...

i remember reading something where Jeff said that he's always pushed and pushed to make sure that the bass stands out, to give the music a little more "umphf!" to it, because it does. In my opinion, bass is a crucial element to a well mastered album but it can be overdone.

  • Some sick-nasty Stone riffs and one or two Matt drum solos. Overall a good uplifting album in these tough times everyone is facing, assuming the times are still tough when the album comes out. Avocado had a lot of the anti-war, anti-government stuff and it came off ok. I wouldn't mind seeing this album look at the world in a more positive light. I always considered Yield to be that kind of album, life, rebirth, coming to terms with ones self etc...
