last week, I was running Kentucky. or was it the week before :? . Anyhoo, I was running I-64 down from Louisville to the Tenn border. Then back up the next day and over to Lexington. Saw many signs for various distillery's. first time I saw one , Ithought of this thread.
i believe it's the bourbon trail. there are like 4 or 5 distillers that you can go and tour....you can get a little booklet and if you visit all the distillers you get a little prize....if memory serves.

oh I saw more than that at least 6 different ones and that was only as far as lexington. Also was running some state routes in Ky that trip. Ran past several aging houses. First one was a Beam off brand. Would have to look it up, but I'm not inclined to reasarch bourbons :nono: :nono: . Not any more anyway!!

I voluntarily gave up whiskey and bourbon last fall, but my go-to was always Black Maple Hill. It's a small batch Kentucky bourbon that comes in at 95 proof. Don't let the 47.5% alcohol deter you though. It has a very smooth texture with a dominant butterscotch taste, a secondary flavor of what I describe as melted RedHots candies, and extremely subtle underlying tannins of black cherry & oak. It has just the right kick as it goes down - it'll warm your insides but won't give you that puckering mouthfeel. Price-wise, it comes in around $35-46 a bottle depending on market area. It usually hovers around $38 where I live.
There are also an 11-year single barrel bourbon and a 23-year single barrel rye, but I've never been able to find either in my area. The label on the 11 is printed with blue ink, and the 23 is printed in black.
Right now in the house I have a 3 Generation's bottle of Makers Mark from the Distillery. Right now it's my bourbon of choice, however it changes often depending on how much more I drink than I should.
I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side

Don't think I have posted in here yet or possibly didn't know this thread existed. My liquor cabinet currently has Blantons, Gentleman Jack and Makers 46 (rarely have it, was my Christmas present to my old man a few months before he died)
A buddy just got his hands on a bottle of Pappy. Looking forward to having a drink of that.
When I saw the craft beer thread, I was wondering if there was a whiskey/bourbon thread too
I'm definitely a huge fan of Makers (Ambassador and can't wait to dip a bottle in my barrel at the distillery. Makers 46 is one of my favorites. I really like the JD Single Barrel, Woodford Reserve, and a few others. I have no access to liquor until December so my mind is drawing a blank on what I've tried :(
Think I need to try the Four Roses Single Barrel Garces Selection (half pour...)
Almost finished a plain old Four Roses Bourbon at home.
Does everyone drink bourbon on the rocks??? I do, even though I drink Scotch & Irish neat, usually with a splash of water.

i typically toss 3 ice cubes in a glass and pour to just cover them.
Got a gift card at least. Is it reasonable to think they would charge half of those prices for a one-ounce "sample?" 2 ounces of whiskey is kind of a lot for me, honestly.

Forecastle Festival had a great Bourbon Lodge in which you could sample 4 different bourbons. I tasted them all multiple times
Woodford is by far the best followed by Four Roses. And if you come this way, you definitely have to hit the Bourbon Trail. And any decent bourbon has to be from Kentucky otherwise it's just whiskey (so says the girl from KY :P )
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...
