Question: If you had to pick one PJ song that to YOU defines the band - what would it be? Some mentioned Alive was the "PJ in a nutshell" song... Consider all time periods - the '91/'92 "eddie climbing all over everything, intense 'grunge' era". The '93-'95 angst-laden, anti-promotion, angry era. The '00 long Binaural tour era. '02-'03 Riot act. The '12-'14 marathon set lists era, PJ20, etc. Yes i know, I'm completely generalizing everything, skipping around, but...
One Song - what to YOU is the perfect summation of all of PJ's abilities/writing? If you had to lump 24 years of Pearl Jam into just one song, in your opinion what perfectly represents the band? This is completely subjective and open to interpretation - just for fun
My choice is 'In Hiding'. Something about it just screams to me, this is Pearl Jam, this is my band.
In Hiding is my favorite PJ song of all time. It and Alive are both good choices, imo. I think Dissident would be a good defining song as well. There's also Love Boat Captain, I Am Mine, Amongst the Waves that I think are all sort of definitive of "the Pearl Jam sound" if there is such a thing.
They all kind of have that slow build up into something bigger. Something that, even though you know it's coming, it still grabs you every single time. Just like a PJ show.
If I have to narrow it down to just one, I'll go with In Hiding as well.
Blues got better, so did Wild. Curious to see what Wild want to do on the "toughness" end with losing Stoner. Not that I care that he's a fighter (I actually hate the fighting aspect of the NHL), but there is something to be said for a grittier physical defenseman.

It'd be interesting to see if we could calculate what the Wild might have lost instead of just trading straight-up for Vanek last season. Anything?

Id say Evebflow or Given to Fly sum up Pearl jam to me. They are kille songs still. And Evenflow sounds like rock n' roll to me.
Release is for sure quintessential Pearl Jam. Arms in the air. The energy. The call back from the crowd. That's one song you'd want someone who is going to their first PJ show to get
Corduroy, Alive, Given to Fly. As for release, I'd like to see that as a CLOSER

Huh! Didn't think there'd be another 'In Hiding' vote, cool
I'd agree with Given to Fly and Corduroy as well Adoffin - both ones I've heard a thousand times, but never seem to get sick of.
I'm going with Alive and Given to Fly. Never get tired of either, and the live versions are good intros for those who don't quite get why we're nuts about this band.
given to fly would be my pick. a little bit of everything in that one. quiet. loud. anthemic. clear influence from another band. immediately recognizable but not their biggest hit, reflective of a conscious pull-back from fame. distinct guitar interplay. strong vocal performance. live staple. crowd favorite.
