I don't think I would have the guts to bring a sign to a show, simply because it would in the way of the fans behind me.
Yeah I'm not big on the signs either. My friend and I did it 8 years ago, showed it once late in a show when Eddie was looking our way (there was a seating mix up and we were very close to the stage), and it became a great memory for us. I certainly wouldn't want to spoil the experience for another audience member though, and can see signs as being annoying. I'm still guilty as charged, and if I had the chance to do it again I wouldn't change a thing.
Goes back to the "band doesn't owe us a thing, yet they still treat us like they do", which was what I was getting at in my last post.

I believe we all had a long discussion about the sign thing earlier this year...
Alive needs to take its rightful place as the closer.

Don't get me wrong, I like Indifference well enough. But it's gotten to the point that Alive is such a great anthem and so representative of what this band means to a lot of people...it's just a natural fit...
Indifference is great for those odd nights...maybe capping off a particularly raucous show, almost the relaxing sigh at the end of a high-octane show....
But Alive...that's the summit of this band (I think). Even after ten albums and hundreds of renditions...it still packs the most punch.
Make it happen PJ!

I've always believed Alive was the definitive PJ in a nutshell song. The version from the 6/27/06 St. Paul show is still the best I've ever heard. Seeing it also helped. It is one of the rare 7 minute versions with Mike soloing behind his back, throwing his 1959 fender guitar in the air, crowd getting into the hey hey hey's. Go over to pearljamlive.com and listen to Alive from 6/27/06.

Nothing earth shaking, at least for myself. I'm going to try to trade a few things, but I'll for sure have a poster or two, some CDs, stickers, and some other stuff. I'll let you know shortly.

all this with an audience where many came to see tom petty. i enjoyed that they won over those crowds.
it was weird seeing every other row partially empty though. if you remember, the two bands' fan clubs split the seating, and so it was obvious which rows were "petty rows" before and during pj's set.
Comments
I think people are interchanging the words "epic" with "good" too often around here.
If you were to take Pearl Jam's 30 most played songs, would the show still be good and/or epic?
