I believe Vant pointed out they have played a number of dates in the "midwest" just not St. Paul.

we all know where the band has and hasn't played. and where they haven't played is here. is it wrong for some of us to be disappointed and have a less than rosy attitude about how things have shaken out for us fans in the cities and surrounding area? with some of the responses in this thread to such posts over the last few months, it darn sure feels like it. and frankly, it shouldn't.

i think most if not all of us felt pretty positive about the 2013 tour and once again this area was left out. so onto 2014 we go, with the hope we finally get a show then. but the band's track record for touring since 2007 speaks for itself and i know i can't say my glass is "half full" as it relates to a show here in the very near future. and if that means i can't voice that here without being directly or indirectly told i'm negative or whatever, then i guess won't bother- criticizing someone's feelings doesn't usually end well.

a show will happen here eventually, i am sure of that (glass totally full in that regard!), but they way things have played out with this band since the avocado tour i will not be surprised if it's another few years yet. i have the patience, for sure, but it doesn't mean i won't be skeptical or won't be prepared to be let down until that day finally does come that "pearl jam - play minnesota!" becomes "pearl jam plays minnesota!".

First time playing handball last night in 5 years...holy wow...I'm sore in places I forgot I had muscles...

    Sweet.

i play kickball and we just had a 3 week break, with the first fall game last night. in just that 3 weeks i feel like my muscles forgot how to work and man, they are sore today.

never played handball. is it raquetball without the raquet (as it appears in that photo)?

Handball is similar in rules and scoring to raquetball, but the ball is smaller and harder (and not to be confused with team handball, the Olympic sport). I played on the U team and had a shoulder issue after I graduated, which caused me to take some time off. I'm back on a club team now for the fall and last night was my debut. Oofta. I'm sore today.

I don't disagree with what you're saying at all, but I just can't imagine getting to a point where my favorite band not playing my hometown is a cause for complaining. "Play Minnesota" threads - yes. Negative attitude - no. Of course it's frustrating to have to travel to see your favorite bands (my god how privileged we are to say that), but moping about how PJ doesn't play ______ is to presume that the band owes us anything, which frankly, is one of the most frustrating attitudes about PJ fans (not directed at you or anyone in particular, mind you). Too many people think the band owes us something. If you don't want to travel to see them, don't. If it's truly a problem in someone's world that PJ doesn't play here, they should take a breather and reflect on what else is going right in their world.

Agreed. I thought for sure the 2013 announcement would include Minnesota. But again...look toward their touring routine. They did a "coasts" tour in fall of 09, followed up by an "everything else" tour (a few midwest dates, Europe etc) in 2010.

You can and should be able to voice your opinions on their lack of playing MN, especially in the Minnesota thread. But I think there's a way to express negative opinions without losing perspective (you Ryan, are NOT guilty of that - I'm just making a point). Generally speaking, we do a pretty good job of being different than the rest of the board in that regard, and it makes this a nice thread to participate in. From time to time, we just need to step back and remember that it's not the end of the world, frustrating as it is. We should also be respectful of others at the same time. There's no need to mope or complain about what is already obvious (no MN dates in 7-8 years), but there's also no need to pile on.

I'll go ahead and say that, assuming they tour the US in 2014 (similar to 2010), we get a show.

Now, can a get a hands-in "rah" for Minnesota again? Come on...get in get in...

Maybe it's because of this ;)

On August 28, 1992, Pearl Jam played Harriet Island in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as part of the Lollapalooza tour.
During Jeremy, Chris Cornell sang some backing vocals during the "spoke in" part.
Later, Eddie Vedder spoke to the crowd: “I remember the last time we were here in Minneapolis, and we played a place called First Avenue, you know where it is. (crowd cheers) That’s about right--everybody in the front--that’s who would’ve been there. Just all you guys right in the front. But, I remember it was about midnight, maybe ten after. And all we wanted was a pack of cigarettes and we were back at the hotel. And we called the front desk. We said, “Can you tell us where there’s a cigarette machine? You know, is there a cigarette machine?” And he said, 'Why, yes sir. There is a cigarette machine, but we lock it up after midnight.' (crowd laughs). You couldn’t even smoke cigarettes?! Like, I’m gonna' smoke three cigarettes and go out and kill somebody?! (Crowd laughs) So I don’t know what the fuck is wrong with Minneapolis. And I started wondering about you guys. Are you guys OK? (Crowd screams) Are they letting you … live? Cause if there not, kill em, fuck em, or get the fuck out, I don’t know.”

I think, you sir, have a problem!

I'm in for a RAH!!! and cool hand signal!

Personally, I just find it exhausting to be negative all the time. Doesn't help matters any! Of course some might call that delusional...

Ha! that's what i was going for, but I was basing mine off of an Office episode where Pam interviews at for an Office Manager position and the boss is basically another Michael Scott. He asks about the camera crew and whether or not they'll stay because that would be "pretty cool.. pretty pretty cool. like Larry David, Curb.."

(i don't know how to post videos/gifs, otherwise i'd try.. but then again, my account is all messed up and I can't participate in certain things, such as having a simple ol' Avatar pic!)

Day off bump. I believe I will explore Bob Dylan's new Bootleg Series, Volume 10: Another Self Portrait (1969-1971) So very excited.

I love his bootleg series. They all are unique and wonderful in their own right. Volume 8: Tell Tale Signs is my favorite, if you were wondering. :D

I know it's a cop out, but in terms of "times-I-listen-to-it" of making an album favorite, Tell Tale Signs is my favorite album by Bob Dylan. It contains the best version of his best song....Mississippi (disc 1 not 2)

I work in a kitchen and tend to scroll out PJ lyrics on rolls of plastic wrap or any box that is near. Everyone knows it's me and knows they are Pearl Jam lyrics without looking them up or asking.

I work with some people that know and like PJ, but no one quite as into them as me!

If PJ never plays MN because eddie couldn't get smokes 21 years ago he sure knows how to hold a grudge.

Maybe MN was included in all of that anger/angst that Eddie was so famous for in the early years.

People do always say they want "angry Eddie" back!:lol:

Mostly what I hate about the NFL is what I'd refer to as the "fan experience." The fan experience at an NFL game is virtually unbearable. Alcohol to excess, hostility, vulgarity. The aesthetics of grown men and women dressing up, dedicating their entire day to living and dying over a team of millionaires is enough to turn me away. You really don't get that type of visceral experience with any other sport. Even hockey fans in Minnesota don't get that way (although there are a lot of awful Wild fans).

A collegiate football experience can have it's downsides too, but on the whole, it's a much cleaner atmosphere. Even just linking the team to a school will draw a completely different type of fan. I'm sure I sound like a snobby prick, but I wouldn't think twice about bringing a kid to a Gopher football game. An NFL game? Not til they were old enough to know that swearing is crude and no, it's not a rule that grown men must paint themselves, get hammered, sing-along with drunk strangers, and live in Spring Lake Park.:lol::lol:

Keep in mind, this is all from a guy who's a FAN of the Vikings and who will watch all their games. :fp:
