God damn. One of the best bands ever.

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening." R.E.M.

Given the common them of PJ20 being about staying together as a band, this certainly makes me appreciate what Pearl Jam has done to stay together through it all.
  • :( never got a chance to see them live either  upsetting news

Whoa! Unexpected news. They were a great band for a long time.

glad i saw them as many times as i did starting in 1985. have pictures from that first show i saw at masonic temple in toronto. remember people making fun if me for going to see a band they called rapid eye movement. got to meet michael stipe once in san francisco on the way to see pearl jam in maui in 98. this is too bad but more often than not inevitable. thanks for all the great music and shows.
  • Wow. Definitely makes you appreciate PJ's ability to keep it together even more.

  • I had such a huge PJ 20 buzz today and this killed it. They're in my top five for sure. I'm really glad I got to take my girlfriend to see them on the Accelerate tour. Listening to Reckoning now.

If I cared, which I don't, I would take this news with a grain of salt. They will take some time off and then before you know it they will be announcing a reunion tour which will generate more money then if they toured without breaking up.
  • One of the greatest shows I have ever been to. Very sad to hear.

At least they knew when to call it a day. I wish U2 would think about taking a long break.
