    Not horrible. :)

Muahahaha! I win this round! :D

    Last link for tonight. :phttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZw-m3cFH90

I love me some Sleater Kinney. :)
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.

    EF you S-K haters.

MMJ and KOL are possibly the most boring and lame rock bands out today. I have no clue why PJ enjoy them.
you must have never heard a mmj album...
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...

Couldn't agree more. The Woods is one of the greatest records I've ever heard. S-K is second only to Pearl Jam in my book, but it's all a matter of opinion.
Sleater-Kinney are probably my second favourite band, and the best gig I've seen behind Pearl Jam. I'll defend them to the death - Combat Rock is a better anti-Bush song than Ed's ever written, with a riff as good as anything Stone's ever written.

I cringe listening to any song that any member of Sleater Kinney sings with pearl jam. It totally ruins the song. Her voice sounds like some sort of swine being strangled while unmercifully trying to power through the words, hoping that things will wind up being OK.
Cursed is the day that their singer does the 2nd verse of RITFW...ughh.

Sleater-Kinney are actually pretty phenomenal, but I guess PJ fans who only enjoy PJ, AIC, Soundgarden, and Nirvana wouldn't understand a band as talented as they are.

It's a shame Eddie wastes time in trying to find good openers when the stupid 25-40 year old fans just shit on them because they don't understand.

Weren't you the guy shitting on MMJ???

Wow..its amazing how many of you hate great bands. MMJ, U2, Kings of Leon, Sleater-kinney, Radiohead?? These are respectable bands I'd go see at their own shows. Its not like Justin Timberlake is opening for PJ. Get a grip folks.

The only post I can agree with is those of you who said Kiss. Kiss are a horrible novelty act that have never written a good song. They are the lamest act of all time.

No - I love Sleater-Kinney! I appreciate that Corin's voice is not to some people's taste. However there's no need for any sexist comments (how else could that one have been taken?!) and I'm not sure Carrie was ever known to attempt a Mike-style solo! I wonder how many of the anti-SK folk have listened to a full album rather than just the live stuff they did with Pearl Jam.

I agree about Jack Johnson though. Just so dull to me. I was travelling in Australia when In Between Dreams came out and it followed me everywhere. I went from being bored by it at the start to being absolutely bloody sick of it by the time I left!

I forgot how PC some people on a PJ board can be. It was a joke.

In reading this thread I don't understand how most of you like PJ if you don't like some of the bands they chose to have open for them over the course of the years to be honest. Like someone else stated, it's not like they are bringing AFI, Fall Out Boy or should I say it???...Good Charlotte on the road with them(LOL).

If anything, the choice of opening acts is just another example of why I appreciate PJ so much. They are the only band that I've seen live that has the balls to bring on the road with them some original sounding bands as well as some legendary post-punk bands that most of us were too young to witness during their heyday. Yea not all of them have been my cup of tea I will admit, but If I didn't like the music then I just usually got up from my seat and did a cruise of the venue until PJ hit the stage.

Here are some of the great bands that I've seen open for PJ:

X, Henry Rollins Band, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Idlewild, Death Cab For Cutie, Supergrass, Sonic Youth, The Fastbacks...and the Rolling Stones to name a few(who I wouldn't of otherwise paid to go see if PJ wasn't opening for them). Probably one of the few openers that quickly comes to mind that was truly painful to sit through was Spacehog.

    Peace,

    U2, for sure.
I will never claim to be a judge of musical ability, but I can say that they can't write a song (lyrically) to save their lives.

And on a more superficial level, I don't trust anyone with only one name. Or that wears pink sunglasses.

My coworker is a huge "2" fan, and I don't think I will ever live down the fact that PJ has been their "opener".

I'm going to assume that you're a younger PJ fan by your post. The reason I say that is because if you were older and into music at a early age, then how could you possibly say that U2 doesn't have any musical ability or lyrical content in their tunes???

I will agree with you that U2 hasn't done anything relevant music wise since probably Achtung Baby...but albums like WAR, October, Unforgettable Fire and even Joshua Tree are excellent albums that are filled with songs that were relevant and dealt with real subject matter and delivered with extreme passion. Then unfortunately they sold their souls to the corporate music world and the U2 most of us knew and loved, was no longer. =(

Not sure what is considered "young" but I am 28. I have been a PJ fan since I was a freshman in High school (1994) so whatever that makes me, I can deal :)....

Anyway, like I said, I can't say anything for musical ability, other than the fact that Bono's voice makes me want to cringe. And you are right that I was never exposed to early U2 so while I have heard some older stuff, it has been in the context of their newer, really bad stuff. Also I probably wouldn't find them as displeasing if I didn't sit next to someone who openly idolized them so and had to listen to so much of their (terrible) new material on the work radio on a daily basis. I will admit that I have a lot of personal issues with them as well, like the sunglasses, and the pseudo-christian overtones....I could go on, but really what it boils down to is:

I just hate everything U2 chooses to be.

And if I never hear the line "Uno, dos, tres... catorce" I will die a happy woman.

Yeah. I think that Mike should have ripped the shit out of that solo and showed up the "Edge" but people argued that it would have been disrespectful. I am all for disrespect when it is called for. It probably would have shut up the U2 fans who think "Edge " is god..

alright, some things that merit further comment are as follows:

u2 does indeed suck, and "the edge" is silly - could not play his way out of a paper bag - the only solid guy in that band is the drummer - bono may be the biggest idiot in the world at this point

kiss is and always was lame, except for the kiss remote controlled van i had when i was a kid - i recently saw a show which included a bunch of live kiss, and boy did they suck - if you cant play live you cant play period

jack johnson is soft, and might possibly possess a vajayjay

    that's about it

Kiss - by far. One of the worst bands ever. God I don't know what's wrong with Mike.

KISS sucks. Their best song is a disco song. No one in the band can sing or write lyrics or melodies. Some of the worst music I've ever heard. They are famous because they wore make up and their dress. They're a joke. Their popularity has nothing to do with the music. KISS fans seem like the type that would be pro wrestling fans. After all, they are somehow enjoying something that just isn't real.

Even the title of the post is just FUCKING STUPID, who gives a shit what band the guys in Pearl Jam like or not. And some of you dumb asses saying crap like, "I've "tried" to get into MMJ or Kings of Leon but I can't." Either you like a band or you don't, you shouldn't "try" to like a band, that's just fucking DUMB. I'm 39 years young and been to about 400 concerts in my life, one of the best was the U2 Joshua Tree Tour in 1987, FREAKING GREAT SHOW, I've seen MMJ and Kings of Leon about 3 or 4 times each and they are respectable acts.

As for KISS they are one of the best live acts I've seen, yes some of their songs are silly, but so are some of Bob Dylans. Listen to the Kiss ALIVE! album and try to tell me they didn't used to rock back in the day. It was one of THE BEST concert highlights of my life getting to see one of my childhood heroes, Ace Frehley come out and play my favorite Kiss song Black Diamond with my favorite band. Of course Mike and Matt love KISS as do lots of people their age do, is that a crime??? Just because a member of Pearl Jam like some band, doesn't mean you have to also. I saw The Frongs open for Pearl Jam in 1994, I won't even get into that one.....

What's next a post that says, "who is the worst sports team a couple of members of Pearl Jam like, Sonics??? Mariners??? Seahawks????. And as for the person that mentioned The Who, give me a freaking break!!!!

no dude, I listened to that kiss album. I once heard a live concert over the radio. I was once even exposed to a "greatest hits" album (that should be a very, very short record) at work and I'm telling you: ITS THE WORST ROCK MUSIC I'VE EVER HEARD. They are not popular for the right reasons.

FALSE. There was plenty of shit rock during my time, too. I have always been able to see through it. Shitty music with people in painted faces trying to push an image, thats pretty easy to spot. Kiss is terrible on a long lasting level, though. Its like shit music kept alive by dorks that like pro wrestling.

I think this is the worst staement I've EVERY seen on this forum, you may not like them or think they're lame, but to say they aren't popular is just STUPID. Do a little research before you make a dumb ass statement like that, they have sold tons of records, still have a hard core fan base to this day and besides the Beatles and Elvis they are the most collected (memorabilia wise) rock performers ever. There were plenty of other rock acts that wore some make up, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, New York Dolls.
