  • I dont think these shows can be prices
It was gonna cost nearly 10000 to come from aus and I assure you if I could have come up with the cash I'd have been there

And it would have been worth each and every cent
If you think you paid too much, in my opinion, you shouldn't have been there

yeah, the problem is that there is a disproportionate amount of people thinking they paid too much. That's the issue.
  • No
There's a disproportionate amount of people bitching about the sets and that totd shouldn't have played and wha wha wha

    Sets were amazing.
That's all there is to it.

And if people are Unhappy with it they gotta ask if they truly belonged at the shows

Yeah, what you said in your first sentence. "There's a disproportionate amount of people bitching.'' I've never seen this level of people unhappy with the PJ experience. And that's a problem.
  • Anytime pearl jam play anywhere in the world there are ways threads about how they thought it wasn't good enough. Or it wasnt fair
Or they think they deserved more.
It's bullshit and I'm sick of it
This is a place for pearl jam fans
Not bitchy whinging cause people don't get what they wanted.

Hey, I love them, but doesn't mean I have to drink the Kool-aid. It just wasn't that great.
  • Sorry they didn't play to your every desire and whim

No. You are lying. There are two members bitching on this thread, and it's pretty much the same on the today's fanviews thread.

A very few people are bitching. See the fanview thread from today. This poster is puting false statements out there, no need to repeat them as if they were facts.

No doubt this was an expensive trip for those that made it
No doubt the rain hampered night 1
No doubt special guests mean less pearl jam
No doubt the enjoyment of a particular setlist is completely subjective
No doubt you can look at a setlist on paper and say meh or oh man that looks great

I am not particularly impressed by the setlists and I am not a huge fan of TOTD, but I get it.

That being said, Pearl Jam shows dont suck. Ever.
I wish I was there to share the celebration.
  • I'm going by what I read and what I always read after pearl jam shows.

I think the sets were amazing
    Always think they're amazing

I just wish people would, even if they didn't like from start to finish, state their highlights

Every positive story is a great read for people who never went
Your highlight becomes part of a bigger picture

you will never EVER go to a show and get every single song you wanna hear
but you went and i have no doubt eds voice was in fine form and the boys were playing their guts out

so please, for the sake of those on the other side of the world who would have loved the privledge to go but couldnt afford it
    just stop.

Is that why you stopped talking to me! Hahahahaha
  • it absolutely blows my mind that people are complaining about the songs that were played. never, even if i didn't really like the song, have i bitched about "having" to sit through pearl jam play a song. live. esepcially at a once in a lifetime event.

i'm not sure what people expected, but i think anyone could have told you(complainers) this was not going to be a regular show; a retrospective of the history of pearl jam-and that's exactly what you were given. i, too, was watching and listening on some crappy live feed (thanks gary!!) but i was grateful to have it. do i really love chris cornell, pilate and arms aloft? no. no i don't. but, i was happy to hear them and, had i been there, i would have added them to the list of rare songs heard live and had another beer.

pearl jam does not exist to please you. next time an event like this happens, send me your cash and i'll go in your place. i know i certainly would've appreciated the live experience more than you, given i appreciated it more than you just watching it on my laptop.

anyone not loving those set lists are mad in the head. They looked amazing to me.

Would have loved to have been there. The fact people who were are unhappy is crazy to me

What do people want these days? They were great sets, unpredictable and so so varied. PJ fans are spoilt rotton - go see a few U2 shows and you will see what I mean.

But i always thought these shows were unfairly overhyped even what someone over hyping would over hype them. That was something the band didnt manufacture and could never have a chance of living up to unless they were still playing now.

I for one wish i had gone, it wasnt possible but i do know if I had, i would be returning home very very very happy.

I also think pearl jam and ten club and their management deserve huge respect for putting this thing on so well...from what i heard it was a superbly ran event and worthy of the occasion....even the little details were there...nice work to all involved.

  • As a wise man once said: Fuck the pessimists. Fuck 'em.

    realists
  • i think most people don't understand the meaning of pj20 and that's why got upset.

pj20 was not "let's play your favorite songs."
pj20 was not "let's play the rarest songs"
pj20 was not "let's play only what this guy wants to hear"
pj20 was not "let's play for 45 hours straight so everyone will be happy"

PJ20 was a celebration of being together for 20 years which ed has stated should be easy but isn't and it's lucky they got to be around for the good years.
PJ20 was about pearl jam still rocking, still enjoying what they do, still making amazing music.
PJ20, like it or not, was not about YOU, it was about THEM! it was more like, they were throwing a party with their closest friends and with the people that mean the most to them and allowing us to participate.

it's an immense thing, being able to make it to 20 years without a break up or anything else that other bands go through. it was about seeing where they came from, seeing what started it all, seeing how much they've changed and grown as a band and as individuals, and thanking the people who got them to that point, whether it be the fans, their wives/girlfriends, brendan o'brien, the supporting bands, or each other. it wasn't about us. it was about them. and people need to get over it and celebrate.

    haters be hatin indeed....

thanks for clearing that up, dont know what i would have done if you didnt explain that to me.

I loved it. But on night 1 by the 3rd TOTD song (and knowing Hunger Strike must be coming),I figured some people must be getting sick of Ed not even being at the front of the stage for three straight songs. I loved it, but people have the right to have not loved it...

Sometimes, you just gotta appreciate history, ya know? The Temple stuff was just a touching moment to behold, and, as Ed said, something we might not see again. Ever.

All in all, PJ played for 5 1/2 hours this weekend. That's still a lot of Ed singing PJ songs.
