Don’t Play the ‘Offence Card’

"some" is not "all." And the vast majority of the rights are given at the national level, not the state level. I can't sponsor my husband for a green card, I'm not his next of kin. When we're on Vacation in another state, I'm not the one who would make medical decisions for him if he wasn't able to. And I can't collect his pension. Sorry, that's not good enough. Why can't you adopt?
you tell me. there are 40 states where it's illegal for gay couples to adopt children. No idea why.I am pretty sure that would be illegal
And you'd be wrong. There are only 12 states where it's illegal to evict people for being gay. Plus the District of Columbia. that makes 38 states where we can be.also illegalYou act as if only gays are miss treated in this world....
Well, there are 75 countries where they either imprison or execute people for being gay. And gay sex is still technically illegal in 20 states. And currently in California, there is a trial going on trying to blame a 13 year old boy for his own murder. The defense is called the "Gay Panic" defense, saying that a straight man was so scared he had to kill the gay man to "defend himself." It's been used countless times. And has been successful is winning acquittals.I would think being in the porn bussiness affects your life more than being gay
And why would you think that?...as far as I am concerned you are equal to me.....
Unfortunately, the laws of this country do not.
Please learn a few facts before making a fool of yourself. Thanks.0 -

you clearly don't understand the concept of "hate crimes."
See, the "hate crimes" addition is for the motive.
The guys who killed matthew shepherd could have said "why would I kill him? I didn't even know him."
Adding the Hate Crimes distinction doesn't make the sentence longer... it means that it can be used as a motive. Otherwise, the jury could agree... and they would be acquitted.
Trust me. I do not have more respect or special treatment. Don't try to play that card with me. You will lose.0 -

I know...
If PrinceOfD gets brutally murdered, his murderer would get the DEATH PENALTY!!!
Where if the same person did the same thing to you... your murderer would only get the death penalty.
Not Fair!!!

Now now... To be fair, hate Crimes cover "sexual orientation" but don't say "gay."
So if he's brutally murdered for being heterosexual, the murderer would also get the DEATH PENALTY!!!,
Too bad we have to be dead to take advantage of those "special rights" we have, eh?
How about you just give me equal marriage protections and call it even. Cuz it will be.0 -

You do have equal marriage protections. I can only marry a lady and get those rights and so can you."First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win ."

Well aren't you clever?
I guess I should point out a real marriage is based on love, mutual support, wanting to make a life and a home together. One of those "cornerstone of society" things.
Hard to explain to people who get married for convenience.0 -

WHY HAVE HATE CRIME LAWS?
If hate crimes are treated like other crimes and are not recognized as a special
category they are often not dealt with properly. This can manifest itself in ways
such as: investigators disbelieving the victim or failing to properly investigate
allegations of bias motive; prosecutors minimizing the offence when choosing
charges; and courts failing to apply their powers to increase sentences to reflect
the motives of the perpetrator.“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln0 -

I think I explained that before.
And what does that have to do with this topic? Is it just the only angle you have left?0 -

Don't court have this power with all crimes, though, not just with hate crimes?
(BTW... It's hard to assess quotes when you give no indication of their source.)0 -

Don't know about his angle...
But I too think Hate crimes is pretty stupid. Aren't too many crimes you commit because of love. Anyhow, that might be another thread.hippiemom = goodness0 -

Well not a lot of "love-motivated" crimes... but there are a lot of crimes because of greed, desperation, anger...
You don't rob a bank because you hate it, you rob a bank because you want money. You don't kill your wife for the inheritance because you "hate" her, you do it out of greed. Some people rob stores for the thrill, not for "hate."
But when you bomb a Gay and Lesbian center, your gain isn't monetary and it's not a "thrill," ...it's to send a message of hate and fear to an entire community. "Hate Crimes" aren't about the sentence (as is often thought) but about the motive.
If someone was, for instance, to bomb a Church... that would also be a hate crime. We're all protected by them, so it's not a "special right" that's only enjoyed by minorities.
(by the way... a "love-motivated" crime would be breaking your husband out of jail, stealing money to pay for an operation for your kid, killing the guy who raped your daughter... when I hear people say "all crimes are hate crimes" I just roll my eyes at their sheer stupidity)0 -
