  • You do have equal marriage protections. I can only marry a lady and get those rights and so can you.

    Well aren't you clever?

I guess I should point out a real marriage is based on love, mutual support, wanting to make a life and a home together. One of those "cornerstone of society" things.

Hard to explain to people who get married for convenience.

    Not Fair!!!

    Wait. What?

Now now... To be fair, hate Crimes cover "sexual orientation" but don't say "gay."

So if he's brutally murdered for being heterosexual, the murderer would also get the DEATH PENALTY!!!,

Too bad we have to be dead to take advantage of those "special rights" we have, eh?

How about you just give me equal marriage protections and call it even. Cuz it will be.

You do have equal marriage protections. I can only marry a lady and get those rights and so can you.

but dont you want to be able to have the equal right to marry your true love if it turned out to be a guy?

    oh and...
a lady??? you mean a female im sure.. cause just cause shes got a vagina, doesnt mean shes a lady.

    WHY HAVE HATE CRIME LAWS?
If hate crimes are treated like other crimes and are not recognized as a special
category they are often not dealt with properly. This can manifest itself in ways
such as: investigators disbelieving the victim or failing to properly investigate
allegations of bias motive; prosecutors minimizing the offence when choosing
charges; and courts failing to apply their powers to increase sentences to reflect
    the motives of the perpetrator.

And what does that have to do with this topic? Is it just the only angle you have left?

    Oh. My. God.

Don't court have this power with all crimes, though, not just with hate crimes?

    Don't know about his angle...

But I too think Hate crimes is pretty stupid. Aren't too many crimes you commit because of love. Anyhow, that might be another thread.

  • But I too think Hate crimes is pretty stupid. Aren't too many crimes you commit because of love. Anyhow, that might be another thread.

Well not a lot of "love-motivated" crimes... but there are a lot of crimes because of greed, desperation, anger...

You don't rob a bank because you hate it, you rob a bank because you want money. You don't kill your wife for the inheritance because you "hate" her, you do it out of greed. Some people rob stores for the thrill, not for "hate."

But when you bomb a Gay and Lesbian center, your gain isn't monetary and it's not a "thrill," ...it's to send a message of hate and fear to an entire community. "Hate Crimes" aren't about the sentence (as is often thought) but about the motive.

If someone was, for instance, to bomb a Church... that would also be a hate crime. We're all protected by them, so it's not a "special right" that's only enjoyed by minorities.

(by the way... a "love-motivated" crime would be breaking your husband out of jail, stealing money to pay for an operation for your kid, killing the guy who raped your daughter... when I hear people say "all crimes are hate crimes" I just roll my eyes at their sheer stupidity)

Not a big deal, I had said "aren't too many crimes you commit because of love"...and you said "when I hear people say "all crimes are hate crimes" I just roll my eyes at their sheer stupidity"

So I was clarifying. but I also don't think it is "their sheer stupidity". I think they just aren't really thinking about motive and more thinking that you wouldn't do something like that to anyone if you liked them...equated bad behavior/choice with hate. It's probably simplistic and I may have done it myself in the past, but I don't think it only comes from sheer stupidity.

Maybe not, you're right about that. Being the victim of random hate crimes that the only motive was "hurt some faggot I don't know," I'll tell you that it gets very frustrating when people say that "hate crimes" don't exist.

Many people don't and WILL NEVER know the feeling of being afraid to leave your own house because someone you don't know wants to hurt you. When I was a teenager, I was randomly attacked a lot by people who only knew me as "that faggot." I had done nothing to these people... didn't know them... that's a "hate crime." When the only motivation is just... blind, pointless hatred.

    You know what is funny?
That THIS is the only BENEFIT you can come up with. Like, someone who brutally murders you might only get Life in prison. Too bad you aren't gay, because then the guy would get the death penalty. THAT'S a BENEFIT???
With the logic you employ to arrives at this conclusion... you MUST also conclude that an Al Qaeda Arab Muslim Jihadist terrorist that brutally murders a Christian because he hates Christians... well, that's not a hate crime, is it?

    I'll tell you what...

you give me every right that you have, you give my marriage the same legal standing as yours, you allow me to adopt children, you allow me to not get evicted from my house for being gay, not get fired from my job for being gay and not be tied to a fence and beaten to death for being gay...

you make me equal to you... and in return I'll never bring it up again. And then I will agree we're all "every day people."

Until then, I'm so sorry if my standing up for myself and fighting for my rights and demanding a bit of respect upsets you so.

Dork your always crying that life is not fair, you do realize all humans have problems (you do not see others here posting there problems repeatedly) ….you like to put your self on a pedestal above everyone.
You had a hard life being gay. Others have had hard lives also; they just do not post it constantly! We are all Everyday People!
You are not as special as you like to think.

are you saying he has nothing to complain about?

there are laws on the books that prevent him from having the same rights as you do. and even talk of a constitutional ammendment to insure his inequality...

Exactly what I was going to say.
Also, Aerial, you posted the same thing in the thread about the teacher who was in trouble for anit-gay remarks, now you started another thread about "offence". Looks like to me you knew exactly what the responses would be and who you would respond to. I think maybe you have a problem with people like homosexuals wanting equal rights. Why is that?

A Moving Train is the perfect place for one to discuss their rights if it concerns the government. Maybe you don't have anything to complain about here because the government is not telling you that you cant marry the person you are in love with and that there might be a problem with them even staying in the same country as you. I'd be pissed off too.

Agreed. Especially since Prince of Dorkness has all of those same other problems (or easily could) and then has to deal with all of the homophobic behavior and laws as well.
