Don’t Play the ‘Offence Card’

In short…
Accusing your opponent of
causing you offence has become
an everyday tactic in public
discussion.
This is a cowardly tactic, which
means that you don’t have to
bother putting your own case, or
pointing out the other’s flaws.
This also presents another’s
opinions as mere ‘hate’ or ‘phobias’,
suggesting that your opponent is
blind or irrational, and not worth
arguing with.
Against this, we should celebrate
the virtues of public argument. It is
through arguments that we develop
our own ideas, and learn from each
other.
We should avoid playing the
‘offence card’, and continue with
the match of public debate.

Here is the rest

There you go, playing the hate card! There are only three people in the world I hate, and it is not because of there opinions or what they believe...... bye the Way I did laugh the minute I read that article.

I think that to take offense in the strict sense of the term you need to identify yourself with a particular group, race, nation, or political party, e.t.c. And If you don't identify with any of these things, then it's not so easy to get offended.

    Anyway...

    Anyway...

I don't know about that. In my experience being on the fence can lend itself to a considerable amount of abuse from both sides. Individuals who don't identify with a specific group are often lambasted for failing to take sides. Agnostics are dumped on by Atheists and religious groups, undecided voters will invariably be mocked and heckled by the media and partisan backers looking for support and people who don't assume a position on politically charged issues like the Israel Palestine conflict will be labeled as racist bigots by both sides.

The worst thing about sitting in the middle on an issue is that you ultimately suffer accusations of intolerance from both sides. Individuals who have highly partisan views enjoy the benefits of a strong peanut gallery. While taking a strong position and arousing accusations against your opponents may seem childish, there is a certain emotional satisfaction one gets from berating their opponents. Moreover, both sides can take some guilty pleasure beating on the fence sitter who is simply labeled an idiot or a bigot by everyone involved. Of course, this keeps the majority of people silent on most issues for fear of verbal and social abuse. Nobody wants to be labeled and if you sit in the middle (as I suspect a large number of folks do) you’re only going to suffer if you get into a discussion with anybody who holds highly partisan beliefs.

So can we say just about everyone is a bigot, hater, racist or some kind phobic. We should scrap those words. We are all “every day people”

    I'll tell you what...

you give me every right that you have, you give my marriage the same legal standing as yours, you allow me to adopt children, you allow me to not get evicted from my house for being gay, not get fired from my job for being gay and not be tied to a fence and beaten to death for being gay...

you make me equal to you... and in return I'll never bring it up again. And then I will agree we're all "every day people."

Until then, I'm so sorry if my standing up for myself and fighting for my rights and demanding a bit of respect upsets you so.

You have special laws made just for you....if I get tied to a fence and beat to death the punishment would not be as harsh as it would if it was you tied up to a tree...killing me is just another person...killing you the murderer gets extra time because you are gay.....So in reality you have more respect and must be more important than I am...according to the law.....does that make you happy?

You really should stay clear of logical deductions Aerial, as they're clearly not your strong point.
