was just about to say the same thing. Just the other night i put it on because its the album i've least listened to and rarely listen to it all the way through. It's growing on me, but it just doesn't flow well from tune to tune. There are some great songs on that album though, I mean All or None,TMW, You Are, Bushleager, Save You, Get Right are definite stand outs for me. Arc doesn't really do much in the position its in, it would work best at the end or just not on the album at all.0 -
It has certainly grown on me. "Can't Keep" is a fantastic opener. I never disliked it, but it used to be my least favorite.
That spot now belongs to Backspacer. Don't hate me.The Scary Monster0 -
I know this seems like a sit on the fence generalization; but I really can't define a favorite album.
The same with saying this song is better than that song;
Its all in the eye of the beholder.
Its almost to me like asking "which of your two kids is your favourite?"
But that's just my Pearl Jam biased point of view

cos its cool to say no code or yield..sad but true
it's cool to say you like certain albums? what is this high school lol? i think if you were around when no code and yield came out you would understand. if you poll 25,000 pearl jam fans i'm thinking the vast majority would agree that no code and yield are better than riot act. are there certain songs on riot act that are good? absoultely! (can't keep, 1/2 full, bushleaguer!) but there really is no comparison between the three albums. riot act just doesn't translate well live. that's why i feel it's one of the least played in concert and the lowest in sales amongst the studio albums.I'll ride the wave where it takes me......0 -
I loooove Riot Act! It's my most played PJ album at the moment
Please, Pearl Jam, consider a Benaroya Hall vinyl reissue! http://community.pearljam.com/discussion/148993/please-pearl-jam-consider-a-vinyl-benaroya-hall-re-issue0 -

I think Riot Act is great. Cropduster, Ghost, and Get Right are the only songs I consider mediocre. But I think they help create the overall mood which I dig tremendously. Ten is the only album I can't listen to. It is the only one that seems old and dated. The newer remixed version is easier to deal with personally. To each their own.

RA is one album where pretty much every song sounds better live and one of the reasons is that Eddie mumbled his way through the album. I found that disappointing. Also wasn't crazy about some of irregular uptempo in Matt's songs. And sacrilege to many but You Are had like a Herbie Hancock feel.
Also agree the flow on prior albums particularly No Code and Yield were superior.
Indeed I like pretty much all of them live.0 -
Riot Act kicks assMy butt itches!0

Yeah, when No Code came I thought it was the shit, and when Yield came out the same thing, and it wasn't a trendy thing to say, because I didn't even know what other Pearl Jam fans thought, as none of my friends were fans. Saying that people like No Code and Yield because it's the "cool thing to say" is equal to saying that people only say they like Riot Act because they're trying to be unique and go against the grain. Neither one is true, it's just a matter of taste and I don't question why anybody chooses a certain album as their favorite(s).
It was after listening to No Code that I decided to join 10C, which is to this day the only time in my life that I have ever been inclined to join a Fan Club of anything. And I didn't even know about ticket perks, fan club singles, or anything, I just saw on the packaging where it said "For Fan Club Info: P.O. Box 4570 Seattle, WA 98104" and so I did. Then when Yield came out I was even more over the moon. Those two albums are what turned me from a casual fan who owned one album into a fan club member who bought everything that even said Pearl Jam on it."See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"0 -
LOVE Riot Act! Unfortunately the missing piece to my vinyl collection... Fingers crossed for re-issues.0

I don't understand. How is it cool to say No Code or Yield is your favourite? Who thinks like this?! Where's Ten on the cool list? Or Vitalogy? I have no idea.
Riot Act has some great songs, but a lot of them just aren't the same standard as songs on previous albums....imo. Not saying they are "bad". I love a lot of them live. But they're just not as good. I've got Riot Act in the car at the moment. Haven't listened to the album in ages and I'm thoroughly enjoying it again....bit it's got nothing on No Code or Yield. The good majority of those songs are fucking genius.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

I LOVE Riot Act! I often think that I prefer Riot Act to Ten. All the songs are truly wonderful on Riot Act.
Knowing that this is the first album after the Roskilde tragedy in 2000, it has a big emotional charge. I can only imagine what must have gone through their minds when they wrote most of these songs, and recorded them. It feels like a very lively album as well. I also saw them live at the Seattle Key Arena for one of the December 2002 shows then..amazing experience. I feel that the band really got to know themselves as musicians and each other way better with this album.I never have been ashamed to say I love Riot Act, and that it might be my all time favorite record. I loved that they recently played Help, help. I always root for Riot Act songs when they play live."I'll ride the wave...where it takes me.."0 -
The Waiting Trophy Man wrote:For me, Riot Act is sub par in comparison to their other albums. Overall their 90's albums were the best, just like the Stones put out their best stuff in the 60's. I love a handful of tracks from RA(especially I Am Mine and All or None) but overall I find it pretty weak and I enjoy it the least - by far.
Totally agree....except I enjoy Backspacer the least.★ 1995 - Brisbane ★ 1998 - Brisbane ★ 2003 - Brisbane ★ 2006 - Brisbane ★

Maybe people really think that no Code and Yield are favourites though?
Do you really think people on this forum say albums that aren't their favourites and say No Code and Yield to be cool? hahahaha That's fucking hilarious if that shit is going on!
