Buddy #1 is in Las Vegas and immediately cashes his bet out (he had Utah)
Buddy #2 is in New Orleans and bets through a book. He bet on USC and freaked out Saturday night as it was a 3k swing based on that touchdown being disallowed.
Sunday AM I get a text from Buddy #2 -- they changed the score of the USC game and his book followed that ruling and he now won his bet on USC to cover.

Buddy #1 was very lucky and/or smart to have cashed right away, cause it would be clear to those in the know that the rules for a sideline penalty should enforce he penalty after the play, not during, so I'm surprised a Vegas sportsbook didn't wait to pay out wagers until it was sorted out.

So, I see the article says there's a new rule allowing officials to take away a score for taunting...hw f'ed is that?

Yeah and the guy that was in Vegas was shit-hammered too...lucky he didn't wait until Sunday betting time to cash in the previous day's action.

Taunting should never be allowed to take points off the board. That is WAY too subjective. A 21 year old kid that just made the biggest play of his life spikes the ball and jumps into his teammates' arms...and a referee can decide to flag him and take away the scoring play? Unbelievable. You penalize the team after the fact you don't take points down. This is an awful rules and we can be sure of the fact that it will happen in a key spot this year and prove costly to program.

i apologize for not taking care of this rule before it came to this

i think the responses so far are

3 are ok with letting fixer and swany picking the monday games

2 are not

please tell me if my vote numbers are wrong

fixer has not

if either posts their picks on thread before kickoff, i guess we take them

in the future

if this happens

my feeling is that if you miss the 1pm games, you are very limited in your choices

but i'm not sure the 1pm should be a cutoff point

there is no benefit of not making your picks by the 1pm kickoff

they still have to get picks in before kickoffs and i would post their selections on thread

i expect to have every pick before the 1pm kickoff each week

this is a fall back plan

to say you have to go 0-6 at 1:30pm on sunday when there are sometimes 7 or 8 kickoffs remaining sounds crazy to me

it just has to be an emergency thing, not a constant thing

and even if you only want the 4pm and 8pm and monday games some week, you should still pm me before 1pm


please tell me if you feel differently

It can be an advantage to not pick by 1pm. If I've made my picks and you haven't then you could pick according to how you know I picked. Ex. if I've already missed 3 game you take the easy match-ups or if I've already selected 3 correct you go for more long shots.

i thought we could try to be fair and have a fallback plan for missing the 1pm kickoffs
this could be a once a year thing for emergencies

i do not think there is any advantage by not picking by 1pm
you say
if you lose 3 of the 1pm games and i wait for the 4pm games to make 6 picks..
you then say i would take the "easy matchups"
if there were "easy matchups" to be had at 4pm, you would have picked them at 1pm
and you say if you win 3 of your 1pm picks, that i could then take "longshots" does not make sense to me
it is not easy to pick these games
the winner will probably average 3.5 wins a week this season
no room to take "longshots"


and again
i expect to have all picks by 1pm each sunday

I just want to play by the rules that were clearly laid out well in advance. I am playing for fun. But here it is week 1 and you are talking about changing the rules.

i fully understand if you wanted it
somewhere there is a "rule" that says get picks in before 1pm
and the league voted to modify that if necessary
in certain situations, a change in rules would upset me also
someone had a family emergency sunday and i tried to help out
these 2 guys might not even get in the league now
i suggested a vote to see if the league would allow a modification for this
and i think the league voted to allow it
week 1 is no longer an issue because neither of the 2 made any selections
if they are in the league, they are 0-6

but what do you suggest we do in the future?

I am generally a 'rules' guy myself but this is a season long, for fun thing with a few bucks just to make it more fun. I have no problem with bending things to accommodate other folks in the group if something comes up. [I also dont think there is an advantage for picking later in the day necessarily....I will make my picks before the deadline and if I dont I wouldnt have an issue with the 0-6. I would still have fun tracking the rest of the games through the season and shit, I went 2-6 in Week 1 maybe I should have letting a fucking dog pick for me. This isn't the Hilton Super Contest. We had a good time doing this last year and the main reason we did was because we all had fun with it and bullshitted throughout the season. I'm of the opinion that if someone has to get in late, its no big deal. Once bye weeks start, there are only 6 games in the afternoon/sunday/monday night, so you're pretty fucked if you pick late. Also, I'm positive (last year at least), none of the members would turn picks in late so they can see where the other action is and bet accordingly. And if for whatever reason they did turn picks in late (I think I had one of these weeks), they didn't check to see anyone else's.

Heres a compromise, if someone can't get their picks in by 1, ED doesn't post anyones picks until he has all the picks. That way, if someone needs to get in with only the night games they won't see anyone elses. We don't need to worry about seeing our picks before the game starts to make sure they're right; we've done two leagues with ED, he's not going to fuck it up.

just don't post everyone's picks everyone has picked them. if they don't send them in by 4pm, post the picks, and those that didn't get them in will be considered 0-6 for that week.

this never did happen last year either. i don't think it will be an issue too much going forward...

2nd place gets paid, but no added payout if there's leftover from the weekly 6-6 pot. So worst case and swany is out and we're down to 10, first place gets anywhere from $160 to $330 depending on when the last (if any) 6-6 hit happens, and 2nd place gets $70.00
