Grit To Grind Was Great!!! 🛹🎨 Online Auction is LIVE!!!
On April 25, @wheatgrassbooks hosted a special Grit to Grind event with @mtskateparkassociation founders and authors @andrewkemmisphoto & @baconmt, who traveled from Missoula to share stories, answer questions, and sign copies of their new book, Grit to Grind: Shaping Montana Communities One Skatepark at a Time.
The night also kicked off a month-long skateboard art show featuring one-of-a-kind decks created by local artists, and now the auction is live online through Givebutter.!
Half of the funds raised will support Livingston Food Resource Center’s Summer Lunch in the Park program, helping provide meals for local kids and families in need. The other half will go directly toward future Livingston skatepark improvements, including seating, bathroom access, landscaping, and expanded skate infrastructure.
You can still see the art in person upstairs at Wheatgrass Books, open daily from 10AM–5PM.
Bid on a board, share the auction, and take the Livingston McNair Skatepark survey to help shape what comes next.

Tribeca Premiere
Honored as an official Tribeca Film Festival selection, PAVING THE WAY premieres June 7 at the Spring Studios’s Shorts Theater in New York City! The film spotlights Indigenous youth as five new world-class skateparks rise across the Flathead Reservation, thanks to a partnership between Jeff’s Montana Pool Service and the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes. With original music from Jeff, the film captures skateboarding's power to foster creativity, challenge stereotypes, and build community.
MORE INFO
The film's backbone, Montana Pool Service, has helped organize and create 41 skateparks around the west and across Indian Country. By the end of 2026, every Reservation in Montana will have a skatepark – a remarkable feat made possible by communities coming together and making it happen.

#JeffAment talks about building skateparks on Native American reservations:
VICE MAGAZINE: How did you get into building skateparks on Indian reservations?
JEFF AMENT: The band gave some money when they built the first skatepark in Seattle Center when there were metal ramps, and then when they turned that into the first concrete park we gave them like 50 grand or something like that. It was a cool project to be involved with and I lived really close to that Seattle Center park, so I was over there a lot. After that I went to city council meetings for about five years to try and get something built in Missoula. That one was a brutal process because it was such a big city. But then I helped get the St. Ignatius Park built and that was super easy because it was a small town. That's when the focus became on these rural towns and these isolated areas, whether they're reservations or not—I don't really see color when it comes to that. I think kids who are in isolated places have a tough hill to climb and it just so happens that this time we did one at Wounded Knee and added onto Pine Ridge.

🎨 GRIT TO GRIND FEATURE: Karon Custom Built 🍔🥤
This next deck is a massive dose of local Livingston nostalgia! Painted by Dave Karon of Karon Custom Built (IG: @karoncustom), this board pays tribute to a hometown staple: Mark’s In & Out.
The artwork features a hand-sketched, neon-style retro drive-in building complete with the "Beefburgers" sign. Dave packed this one with fun details, including a character with a literal hamburger for a head wearing a "DK" shirt

“[Skateboarding is ] a gateway to all the creative things, it’s a gateway to photography, and painting, and other sports, and sort of looking at the world in a different way and it connects sort of all these oddball creative types.”
