I am not mad either, but diasppointed in my seats. 183xxx; 20 rows back way to the right and blocked by speakers. Easily the worst ten club tickets I've ever had; still love the show though.

at least 200,000 members at $25 per year, I'd say yes the tenclub is very much a business.

  • RedMosquito15, you really don't know what you're talking about. I make no claim to having access to the TenClub's balance sheet, income statement, or statement of cash flows but let me give you an example:

If a company earns $100 in revenue during their fiscal year, yet their cost of producing that revenue is $95, their profit is only $5.

So while you're probably right that they make millions a year, their cost of goods sold probably doesn't leave them with fat margins.

Regardless, I was pointing out that before they're a business, they're a fanclub. One whose dedication to its fans should not be measured by micro details like how many emails they respond to, or how many posts on the Bulletin Board they reply to. Isn't it more sensible that we measure their value by the material macro details such as bootleg availability, christmas singles, and advanced ticketing which is - more often than not -flawless?

Look - no one is happy when mistakes are made. But mistakes are inevitable - particularly when you're dealing with a small organization (TenClub LLC) who takes on such large endeavors. Don't focus on the wrong part of the story.

I know they're up there in the numbering, but I can't imagine they have more than 75,000-100,000 active members...

Just a guess of course, but I'd be SHOCKED if they did

This whole story sucks, and I feel bad for the original poster. However ...

I'm old enough to remember a time when it was difficult to get a ticket -- any ticket -- to see Pearl Jam play. I remember having to line up 10 of my friends on a Sunday morning to call this damn phone number and get a busy signal over ... and over ... and over ... until we got through. Well, only one of us did. It was me. I bought the maximum four tickets, and six of my friends were screwed. Left out in the cold.

We wouldn't have cared where our seats were. We just wanted to be in the building.

That kind of experience has stuck with me over the years. I don't go into any show *hoping* for anything. I just take what I get, am happy to be in the building, and I'm never disappointed. Sometimes, however, I am pleasantly surprised.

    It works for me, anyway.

i'm w/ya on this. I've been to a lot of shows in my lifetime-most of which I was just happy to be there. Only been @ front of stage once & I won't date myself w/the who & when. Just be happy you've experienced good seats-most people never get to. Understand the disappointment but better attitude IS to go w/no seat expectations & be surprised! Be happy you got to see a kickass show-clearly you are much younger & more spoiled-just deal already!

you obviously had my seats. and yes the fan club numbers do matter when you ordered them through the fan club(which we all did). they weren't ticketmaster seats.

Well, I could not order them because they were all allocated in the few seconds between my last try before they went on sale and my first try after they went on sale. Hundreds of people were left out of the MSG 10c sale (and when given the privilege of using a password for a fanclub TM sale they secured precious seats shittier than those that went on sale for the general public a couple of days ago).

I think that's what she meant.
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

credit to the tenclub for mixing things up on this tour. normally my number in the 200XXX gets me 30-50 rows from stage so I always understood the seniority thing and just hoped for once they'd mix it up and it seems they did for this short tour. We were lucky and won the lottery and ended up in P2 which is something we never got an opportunity to in our 21 previous shows........while it does suck to have a number like 183XXX and be that far back, I'm sure you got a number of 13th row shows under your belt and will have many more in the future............

agree-probably won't go this way again-hoping for big things when I get there in about 1 1/2 hrs. But won't cry if I'm in my usual 3rd to last row before lawn or lawn if I must!

You sound very young, or very challenged. If neither of the 2, then, wow...all I can say is try out your theory of not coming back, let's see if it's right. :)

Another thing to consider that makes 2008 different from 2003 and earlier is that the ticket scalping industry has gone into hyerdrive. Not only have more and more "ticket brokers" been popping up, they now have many more advanced tools at their disposal to try and rope in as many tickets as they can. The ticket broker industry is also being legitimized by Ticketmaster's TicketExchange and Stub Hub, making what was once mostly a fringe market into a main source for ticketing.

This is big business now and it is truly not a fair playing ground at all. ESPECIALLY for fan clubs like Ten Club that are 100% independently run by the artist and not by a department of a record label or another major corporation like LiveNation. It is pretty much guaranteed that if this fan club was run by one of the many corporate "fan club" companies out there then the ticketing scenario would be much worse. It's a real uphill battle for an organization like Ten Club and Pearl Jam.

Madonna is setting a new standard with Stub Hub on her upcoming tour where she is getting a cut of all the transactions made on their site for her tour. And she's pitching it to her fans like "Didn't get tickets the first time? No problem! Come to Stub Hub!" putting her stamp of approval on exploitation and gouging. In fact, it is in her interest to promote scalping on Stub Hub because she gets paid on the initial sale AND the resell.

My point is that when all is said and done, Ten Club is really doing a great job for an independent, 100% artist owned and operated fan organization. They are fighting against a system that couldn't care less about fans and they are doing the best they can. Even when things don't go perfectly, I honestly feel that Ten Club really does care and they have made the effort.

I hear your disappointments and I understand where you are coming from, but you have to admit it could be a whole lot worse. I just hope we can consider all of this before we go calling them names and putting them down so quickly.

I hope everyone had a chance to read this information about how the ticketing industry is changing. We don't support scalping or scalpers here...but there are people who are trying to legitimize it....

  • Well one thing to consider here is that because it was a certain block of people who were the victims of whatever happened last night that it might make it easier to find whomever the culprit(s) are.

Its been my experience that the 10C no longer distributes the 10C tix at the box office. They may have someone there overeesing the process...not sure.
I know that there is usually 2-3 windows depending on the venue and amount of 10C tix sold, so I'm sure they are already looking at the individual(s) that were responsible for distributing the tix to the people who had 164xxx etc. I hope that whomever the guilty person/people are get FIRED and if possible charged criminally because this is theft AND fraud!
