The bible makes no reference to homosexuality since there was no dialogue about gays in biblical times. People have misinterpreted a few references that have to do with a man lying with another man, etc. In those references, it's usually described that the man is taking the position of the woman in a sexual act. Two thousand years ago, women's position in society was lower than low. You were basically property. For a man to take the position of a woman in sex is lowering themselves to the same level as a woman. That is the offense, not being gay.
It's unfortunate that people commonly associate Christianity with being anti-gay. People are using a misinterpretation of the Bible to discriminate and then feel God is on their side. Discriminating against gays or anyone else is nowhere near following the teachings of Christ. Whether someone should be labelled a bigot may be debatable. In order to keep someone from having equal rights and equal access, they have to be thought of as less-than. If someone thinks an entire group of people is less than the group they belong to, does that fit your definition of bigot?
I've said on more than one occasion, and I mean this in an absolutely non-sexual way of course, but if anyone thinks Christ wouldn't be at a gay pride fest or your local bar they are delusional and have no concept of what Jesus was really about. These aren't allowed in Leviticus or other old testament books, but nobody's claiming to get back to these roots. Why is gay marriage different than any of these, please?

The New Revised Standard Version of the Bible translates 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 as follows:
"Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God."
I concede that the translation of the Greek word for "male prostitutes" has been open to debate, and I am aware that it was not an important issue for Jesus as he did not mention it at all.
In my heart, I know God understands us better than we understand Him,and I do hope that there is salvation for gays, b/c I am VERY close to one particular gay person (my best friend) who is Christian, and has struggled with feeling in conflict w/ God. I know there are many others, and in the end we are all trying to find peace in this crazy world.

The bible makes no reference to homosexuality since there was no dialogue about gays in biblical times. People have misinterpreted a few references that have to do with a man lying with another man, etc. In those references, it's usually described that the man is taking the position of the woman in a sexual act. Two thousand years ago, women's position in society was lower than low. You were basically property. For a man to take the position of a woman in sex is lowering themselves to the same level as a woman. That is the offense, not being gay.
It's unfortunate that people commonly associate Christianity with being anti-gay. People are using a misinterpretation of the Bible to discriminate and then feel God is on their side. Discriminating against gays or anyone else is nowhere near following the teachings of Christ. Whether someone should be labelled a bigot may be debatable. In order to keep someone from having equal rights and equal access, they have to be thought of as less-than. If someone thinks an entire group of people is less than the group they belong to, does that fit your definition of bigot?
