Rick Perry, who has yet to announce his candidacy, will secure the Republican nomination for President, and defeat Obama- handily- in 2012.

I am calling it now. I'm on the record.

Many of you will disagree.

But when it happens, I will only accept notarized apologies in written form.

why does he care about marriage? I wouldn't vote for him based on that. All the other stuff is great, but the fact that he is against stem cell research and monogamous gays makes him a lot like ned flanders and I will never vote for ned flanders either

I think you mean he's for the sanctity of marriage, legal immigration, and less gov't regulation.

He's made the statement that when Texas joined the Union, it retained the right to secede and that if we don't like how Washington does things, we may just up and do it.

He's wrong, of course, (about Texas having the right of secession) but Governor Goodhair has never let facts get in his way. Nor federal assistance, as long as it suits his agenda.

He doesn't refuse handout money. That's my point. He talks big about how badly they do things in Washington, then turns right around and requests federal funds.

Or complains about not receiving it. After a series of devastating wildfires in west Texas, he requested that 252 of Texas' 254 counties be declared eligible for federal firefighting assistance. That included the county where I live and where there were NO wildfires. Also, while he complained about being turned down for aid for the wildfires, the money he requested wasn't to help out people who'd lost their homes, possessions and livestock. It was to reimburse the state for fighting fires.

I think you are referring to disaster relief for wildfires. I thought the reference was to "stimulus $."

fair enough, that is your position and you are entitled to it, but I have one simple question...why are people being denied legal rights because of a religious ceremony? the government is not supposed to be in the religion business.
you can be against it all you want...but in a free country things like gay marriage should be very legal...having gay marriage illegal because of religion is no different than having any other aspect of religious law, so if that is ok to do than sharia law should be ok too right?

Partly. See my edit above. But he also accepts funds for education and other "handouts" when it suits him, like the National Guard along the border. Then he moans and whines about all the strings attached.

Here's what I don't understand, so Parachute, please explain...

The GOP claims they want the government out of the lives of citizens, so why do you want the government to be morality police on issues like gay marriage? Two gay guys getting married hurts nobody and does not effect you or I in any way, shape, or form and could make two people very happy. Why is there a problem with it?

I know Gimmie, I was wearing a shirt that was 50 % linen and 50% wool and I will be damned if God didn't remind me I was breaking a rule...you know...the rule about not wearing clothes made from more than one fabric...that is in leviticus where it talks about homosexuality...seriously...get the fuck over it...two guys or girls can love each other and it affects other people a grand total of 0%...that is unless other people enjoy seeing committed couples...then it affects them positively...
I don't like attacking religion and I am not trying to do that here, but come on, why out of all those rules is the homosexual "rule" the one that needs to be followed...if all the many others from Leviticus are seen as unnecessary now, why did that one stay?

you have the choice to follow or not to follow that's totaly up to you, if you are a believer than that is something you will have to deal with between you and God and if you are not a beleiver then why do you let these "rules"in the Bible make you angry, is there something in your heart that that the world won't let you share (no I'm not calling you gay) just wondering why all the anger...if that was anger.

Perry only says what Perry needs to say at the given moment. Just like any other politician. He also wanted to require all girls over age 11 I think it was, to get the HPV immunization shot. He also wanted to confiscate millions of acres of land and establish the Trans-Texas Corridor, and the entire thing would have been owned and managed by some Spanish corporation that he was getting a kickback from. He was shot down on both accounts. He's as big a crook as they come, and I'll vote for Obama, get a fake ID and vote for him again before I ever voted for Perry and I'm probably one of the more conservative people on this board.

Because those 'rules' in the bible are still informing the laws in the US, as most people against gay marriage explicitly or implicitly cite the bible for the reason they are against gay marriage (see: Parachute).

No? Before you lose your liberal wad, consider this: How would you feel if George Bush had just "decided" that his admin/Justice Dept would stop enforcing the Roe V. Wade decision?

How are they not LEGAL rights? if the DOMA is a law passed to define marriage as union between man and woman, how is it not legally keeping gay people from marrying? They are legal rights whether they're being denied or enforced.

haha, Roe vs. Wade? apples and orangutans (to quote someone else on here). There is a lot of grey area with marriage... Check out the Full Faith and Credit Clause.

And by the way, if you're scared of same sex marriage now, you should be very afraid that your sacred Bible will finally be eliminated from US law one day concerning marriage. I'll bet $2 on that (paypal of couse)that gay marriage will be universally acceptable in a few decades. I mean some people were scared in the 60's too when interracial marriages were made legal, and look how badly that has affected everyone.. oh the horror, people marrying whoever they want!!!
