Ed's song cost the Cubs the Series. Ed is the new Bartman.
  • I love the Pumpkins (well, the old stuff i.e not Zeitgeist) but Billy is a bona fide arsewipe.....

Wow I cant believe how many people on here are Bashing Billy. Just let me say that as much as I enjoy PJ and have for the past 17 years I would still consider Billy a MUCH better song writter then Ed ever will be. Also as far as the comment goes about Billy slamming Ed, I seriously doubt it had anything personal do with Ed. Read the credits on the back of Siamese Dream sometime. Theres a special Thanks on there to Pearl Jam so I really doubt they have any anomisity towards one anohter. Billy was a great baseball pitcher and probably could have played in the minors. He grew up a huge Cubs fan so im sure hes just being a little protective of his team. No Biggie relax people

It was a great show last night and I thought it was Funny that Eddie was brought up. After he was I was yelling for "All The Way" and threw a few "Yellow Ledbetter" in there. It was all in good fun.

As a response to some other responses: Billy lives in Evanston now. He moved to LA for a bit. He had a house in Wrigleyville for some time during the main SP years.

Darcy and Iha are lucky to have been associated with Billy. Yeah, he was probably a pain to get along with as he was a perfectionist. I think they were tired of letting Billy play their parts on the albums and telling them what to do. Darcy had other problems that she needed to take care of. Same reason Jimmy left the band for a while. He got cleaned up and is back rocking out. He was amazing last night also.

And for those people who hate the music that they have made it is your opinon. I think they have some really great music and sound IMO.

the pumpkins suck now. I saw them last year....lame. The new cd is pathetic. Read the review of the 2 shows they just did in New York....even their diehard fans said they sucked.

  • Have people even bothered to listen to any of the new music that the Pumpkins have been putting out. A lot of the new music that's being written is pretty damn good. It seems that there are way to many quick, harsh comments about Billy just because of a comment he made about Ed. Their playing small venues, they did two huge residency gigs last year that couldn't have made them very much money. Here's some examples of the new stuff that people should here before passing judgment.

You have got to be kidding me. Corgon is a pile of crap, jealous pile of crap.
  • i bought the pumpkins new DVD and had to turn it off about half way through cause billys attitude was just TOO obnoxious... i figured it would be pretty bad but it was worse than usual... the part where he throws a little hissy fit about james getting credit for a couple fuckin songs... give me a break... and the way they treat their fans is appauling... theyre chatting backstage about how people are walking out during their weak 30 minute jam session and they just decide to end the show because of that... give people what they want... its like billy feels everyone in the audience is lucky to be there rather than appreciating how lucky he is that people want to hear his music... even the cinematography of the new DVD is super pretentious... and the new songs are all pretty mediocre

the eddie shit im sure is all in good fun... just another example of how even his "jokes" make him look like more of a dick...

  • I went to the Pumpkins show a few Friday's ago at the Wang Center in Boston and it was honestly the worst show i've ever seen. I was so excited to see them again. I saw them a year or so ago. It was the worst thing I've ever witnessed. We got the "hits" which was fine, then he played a 20 minute cover of Pink Floyd's Age of Consent, which really sucked. I like the original but that was terrible. Then they went off stage for an encore break, turned the house lights on, and came back on (after a terrible comedian dressed as Manny) saying how Europe is so much better and they didn't even want to come back out and we were lucky they'd do one more song. They then played kazoos for 15 minutes while lecturing everyone on how they dont' give a sh*t about anything and if you don't like it basically leave.

I've got all their albums and had loved them. I'm hoping never to hear them again. Yelling at your fans during a concert cause they didn't cheer loud enough during an encore break after you played a 20 minute instrumental cover that sucked? Go f' your self. at least play one of your own songs.

He's such an ass. I'm ashamed he got my $75.

  • Billy Corgan also sang Disarm with Josh Groban at Bridge School this year, really cheesy and really disappointing considering I've been a big Pumpkins fan for a long time.

but what I did notice was that it was top 3 WORST concerts I've ever witnessed...

it was prob the same exact setlist for every show but I mean the whole concert was corgan making weird sounds out of his guitar, it was not music.

I love the smashing pumpkins but when the concert ended it was the first time I've ever actually booed a band. my whole section was.

    very disappointing.

have you not seen u2 recently....by god now thats mindnumbing.....They even manage to start and finish with the same song these days, and a shite song at that...fucking Vertigo..

Amazing how Corgan went the opposite direction of other musicians that realized that their hating on other bands in the 90s was worthless and mostly off base.

I was at the Smashing Pumpkins show tonight in Chicago, and Billy joked about how he should write his own Cubs song. He pointed out that, aside from his arrogance, you'd have to admit that he could write a better one than Steve Goodman. Then he stated something along the lines of, "...and last I checked Eddie Vedder doesn't live in Chicago". I have to admit, I think Eddie got served.

The show was fucking amazing by the way.

Corgan is always a bitter old man, he's just jealous because Ed has great hair and all his musicians are still with him.

  • I saw the Pumpkins at Lolapalooza 94 at the Gorge, and they were the worst band I have ever seen in my life. Played this long slow boring thing in the middle, treated their fans awful. George Clinton was way more entertaining as were the Beastie Boys.

Billy Corgan wants that massive love and respect that we all give Ed, but he's such an ass, he thinks he deserves it. How about some humility there assclown.

Get over it Billy your career is basically over with your tribute band. You guys should be doing anything to get fans in the door. Let em bring video cameras for christ sake.

I hear what you're saying, but just because he can write good music and play small venues doesn't change the fact that Billy is a complete asshole. He's always been an asshole, and he will always be an asshole. And just b/c I feel that way does not mean that I do not care about his music.

I'm a PJ fan first and foremost, but that being said who cares if Corgan took a shot at Eddie's Cubs song. Whether there was legitimate anger/jealousy behind the comment or not, I got a kick out of it. I don't think it's worth it to read anything more into it than that.

I find it very funny that, if someone makes fun of Eddie Vedder or Pearl Jam you all have a hissy fit and jump all over the person for saying shit about him or the band.

. . . yet if Pearl Jam or more specifically Eddie talks shit about someone (which he has) you're all like "Yeah right on!! you tell em' Ed!"

    nothing but fucking drones

Whoever said it wasn't wrong when Eddie talks shit about other bands?

Corgan's comments were really lame...I don't understand why he felt the need to diss Eddie for writing a song for the Cubs...and his reasoning was just plain retarded.

If Corgan feels he can write a better song...

WELL THEN WRITE A BETTER FUCKING SONG BALDY AND SHUT UP!!!
