Corgan bashes Eddie

I actually think that Corgan did some radio play-by-play for the Cubs a few years back.

He is probably just a little envious of Ed's song getting all of the attention. I think he is getting bashed a little to harshly on this thread for what he said. He has had a rough patch but some of his earlier work was really good (even though his voice sounds like he was kicked in the nuts by a goat at an early age).
  • I went to a bunch of the Pumpkins shows this tour and they were OK at best. I would have traded all of those shows I went to for 3 Vedder solo songs! Corgan should not be able to be in the same room as Ed and the boys. CORGAN SUCKS! I used to be a big fan but he ruined it. He is too busy making new horrible 30 minute jam outs that sound like shit, instead of playing from the catalog of great songs he already has.

Then he stated something along the lines of, "...and last I checked Eddie Vedder doesn't live in Chicago". I have to admit, I think Eddie got served.

The show was fucking amazing by the way.
The Pumpkins live show is incredible right now, for sure.

Corgan isn't bashing Vedder though, c'mon. He's making a joke...he could've easily replaced Vedder with Bono or any other well-known songwriter.

mhmmm...If I were a fan of bands, I wouldn't like the shows right now either...but he's not playing for Pumpkins fans, he's playing for live music fans, suckas! :p
  • He sucks. Its like he's going thru the motions not really rocking. AND WHAT WITH THE F-IN SKIRT!!

    Smashing Pumpkins don't play sports

Billy Corgan lost the plot a long long time ago.

He let his bloated ego take the wheel and now his career has crashed in the ditch.

This Floundering Circus Parody of a band bares little resemblence to the Smashing Pumkins of the early to mid 1990's.

Corgan should spend less time dissing his peers and more time learning how to re-invent the wheel that he rode in on.

I went to the show on Saturday at the Wang Theatre in Boston and it was great...I'm really glad he didn't say anything about Eddie or Pearl Jam or whine about how people hate him...it would have put a really bad taste in my mouth and ruined the show

Wow, you guys need to get over it. Billy Corgan made fun of Eddie Vedder. Wow, Ed's never said anything insulting about another band.

The Smashing Pumpkins is Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin. They wrote and recorded almost all of their songs. And by recorded, I mean recorded. James and Darcy were barely in the studio for most of their albums. And yes, that includes Siamese Dream and Melancholy.

You're complaining about bands who tour without their original line up. How many F-in' drummers has Pearl Jam had? I don't see anyone complaining about how The Who is touring with only half of its original members. People need to get over what they think is a band, and just deal with what they are. Lineups change, and so do bands. Expectations are the killer of any piece of art. Good or bad.

i only like the one song that was popular on gish and he has a horrible voice and hes cocky i could say that cause i met him twice actully i was by him talking to robert smith for an hour!
  • eddie must have kicked billy's ass or stolen his girlfriend at some point. either that or he has the "i don't like him cuz courtney love doesnt' like him" mentality.

i like the instinct to defend ed but it doesn't seem like it was that harsh... but i wasn't there so... i also heard that the pumpkins were fairly lame earlier this week in beantown so suck that Corgan. love the skirts.

I saw the pumpkins show in ct on sunday and he didn't say anything about eddie.
but what I did notice was that it was top 3 WORST concerts I've ever witnessed...

it was prob the same exact setlist for every show but I mean the whole concert was corgan making weird sounds out of his guitar, it was not music.

I love the smashing pumpkins but when the concert ended it was the first time I've ever actually booed a band. my whole section was.

    very disappointing.

Is this really Corgan bashing Ed??? Are we being a touch too sensitive heres? I dont see the big deal...it was a little jab, happens all the time. Ed dishes them out too...pretty sure he took at jab at Coldplay during the MSG shows this summer.

Billy Corgan is an arrogant prick. At least Pearl Jam didn't do this whole "final tour", make a huge deal out of breaking up, only to come back like 10 years later.

  • I really, really, really like the Pumpkins...but Corgan is a jackass. there's no way around it. I don't really have any solid evidence of this, but didn't Pearl Jam help the pumpkins out a bit when they were getting started?

I agree with other posters in saying the smashing pumpkins WERE a great band. I know a lot of die hard pumpkins fans who saw them, and paid inflated prices to do so, in Boston and were very disappointed with their live show.

I don't give a fuck what he says about Ed, or anybody else for that matter, as long as he isn't singing it. When he sings, I look for the nearest sharp object to cram in my ears in hopes that I destroy my hearing altogether.

OMG! You just read my mind. And with that, here's a list of people simply trying to make money off of their old bands' names:

Soon to be added to the list:
    Jimmy Page

    2. Billy, you need to get off your high horse and realize that you're NOT the best guitar player/songwriter ever lived. And those dudes you've been playing shows with under the false name of Pumpkins for the last couple of year or whatever, THEY AIN'T SMASHING FUCKING PUMPKINS. Again, like Axl and Guns N Roses deal, you and some dudes getting together does not make it Smashing Pumpkins!!

Why Jimmy Page? To my understanding, unless Plant joins, they are calling it something else. If you think he enlisted JPJ and Bonham, as part of the money grab, then go ahead and add just about every major musician from the classic rock era.

Billy isn't the best guitar player or songwriter that ever lived, but HE is the Smashing Pumpkins. When they were good, Billy was on fire. When they are/were bad, Billy takes the fall

    Excellent post.

To add to this, the new guy he has playing guitar now is excellent....at least as good as Iha live.

Corgan 'bashes' a lot of things and most of the time he is joking and a serious message can be seen.

    Boo hoo.

I was at one of their shows down in Bloomington-Normal, IL last year and Billy said something about Ed too!

Some guy he brought down to the front row from the way back was wearing a Pearl Jam shirt and Billy made some remark that sounded like a joke but could tell it was jealousy.

Billy will never what Pearl Jam is. I am a fan of some of their records though!

I was just gonna say I remember reading about him saying crap before.

    1. No Axl, your new band is NOT Guns N Roses. Guns N Roses consisted of Izzy, Slash, Axl, Duff. NOT you and some dudes you picked up off of street.
You should probably call your new band Gun'n some daffodils.

If you want to get technical about it, Guns n Roses is:

    Traci Gunns
    Axl Rose

    Hence the name.

Now, if it were Slash N Roses i would kind of see your point.

Enjoy your Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver records though.

i love the pumpkins but it's too bad that billy is too full of himself. the only reason that band isn't together is because of him. The group he played with tonight wasn't the smashing pumpkins.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the Pumpkins from Siamese through Machina, but everything since has been SHIT. Eddie Vedder, last time I checked, has been making great music for almost 20 years both by himself and with the band. Also, is there a prerequisite that to be a fan, one must live where the team(s) resides??? Billy Corgan is a ZERO. HA!
