I can not get enough of Now for plan A....what an amazing album
Agreed. Hands down the best thing they've done since Music@Work in my opinion. Even the songs I wasn't too keen on at first have grown on me (About this Map, Done and Done). It's just brilliant from start to finish, and it's quickly becoming my favorite album of 2012. I can't get enough.
Oh, and remember that kick-ass version of Hundredth Meridian I posted earlier in this thread? Well this one is even better:
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
sarah harmer sounds beautiful on her tracks, will these songs be played live without her i guess?
overall, I am happy with the album.. to say its the best since Music @, no way for me!! In Between Evo is in top 3 for me...violet light up there too. that being said, im pleased....sound great.
Van '98, Sea I+II '00, Sea '01, Sea II '02, Van '03, Gorge, Van, Cal, Edm '05, Bos I+II, Phi I+II, DC, SF II+III, Port, Gorge I+II '06, DC, NY I+II '08, Sea I+II, Van, Ridge , LA III+IV' 09, Indy '10, Cal, Van '11, Lond, Van, Sea '13, Memphis '14, RRHOF '17, Sea I+II '18, Van I+II, Vegas I+II '24
I picked up the vinyl as well. I need to have both: CD for the car, and vinyl for home.
Amazing interview with Gord Downie on CBC the other day. Never seen him so candid and personal before, especially when discussing his private life, which he rarely does. Turns out his wife had a scary bout with breast cancer as the band was in the middle of making the new album, which ended up inspiring some of the lyrics on the new songs (Transformation, The Lookahead, Man Machine Poem in particular). It certainly puts things in perspective and gives even more emotional weight to these songs:
"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
2nd: Ironically... I keep seeing and hearing reviews that are like "best Hip since Phantom Power... or best Hip since Music @ Work" My affinity and love for We Are The Same cannot allow this.
But... N4PA is probably one of their most 'beautiful' albums. The arrangements, the lyrics, and Sarah Harmer... beautiful.
I've listened to it almost twenty times now since it came out..... gets better every spin.

My brother has been on my case to come visit him for the last 2 years while he's been working on his law degree at DAL... Got the email about the Canadian tour and said "this looks like a fantastic excuse to go to Hali!".
got 4 gold circle seats to the metro center show this morning in the presale... already psyched!
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
Sadly this will be the first Hip tour since 1991 that I won't be able to see. For some bizarre reason they've decided to skip Calgary on this tour, and I don't have the funds or the vacation time to venture down south for the U.S. tour. It's a real bummer.
That being said, I can't stop listening to the new record. Nobody expects a masterpiece from a band who has been around as long as the Hip have. But a late-career masterpiece is exactly what they've made. This is the best album of 2012 in my opinion...and the best thing these guys have done in 10 years. The amount of heart and soul they've poured into this album is inspiring to me. This is a band that clearly cares about their craft, and I love that they continue to throw us a few curve balls and push themselves forward artistically after almost 30 years in the biz. Long may they run!

I'm not all that fond of the new one. I've listened to it a couple times, and nothing grabs me.
But he comes across in interviews as incredibly intelligent and enormously humble.
I think this is the type of album that grows on you. It's solid. The last one before this (We Are the Same)... not so solid. In fact, from my perspective... the shits. But this one- it's good.
Regardless, the Hip are Canadian rock icons that have done it the right way. I support them no matter what. They have done much for me and my listening pleasure. I'll be rocking in the first 5 rows Jan. 20 in Kamloops.
3 Pistols. 50 Mission Cap. Nautical Disaster. So many unreal songs.

yes, they are a great band. But Gord's same old "microphone stand" rants are getting old live. I've seen them so many times that if I don't care for the new album, I won't be seeing them. I fucking loved In Between Evolution, and I was on the floor for that show. The Lonely End of the Rink was unbelievable live.
edit: yes, WATS was not solid, as you said. And I skipped that tour as well. Which I sort of regretted after, because it was a summer outdoor show in Winnipeg.

The film will have very limited screenings in select theatres before the in-store release on BluRay and DVD on November 20th! Anyone want this? I got it when I didn't know any better, so it's got 4 holes in it from push pins. Still, It's not a bad poster - made by Hatch Show Print & got it at the Ottawa show in 1999. I'm not looking for a pile of cash or anything, but I don't really want to pay to ship it anywhere either. Mainly just hoping to give the poster a new home. I'm still keeping my 1996 poster that I'm not ready to let go of just yet. PM me if you're interested - it may take me a few days to get back to you.

Went to this show last night and have to admit, I was somewhat bummed.....I went early and heard their soundcheck and was really jacked when I heard them play "Lionized" and "Thugs"....then the disappointment hit when the actual show started and I realized that it was the exact same setlist as the show in Cleveland I saw last month during the first show of the tour, with the exception of those 2 songs, and in the same order! Was kind of hoping to hear a few more of the songs off the new one with maybe a few hidden gems, but it was not to be.....and maybe a little more originality considering a 10 day layoff in between shows. Doesn't matter, they still killed it, and made an instant fan out of my friend who was seeing them for the first time.
