This really is a big year for us PJ fans, very exciting. Though they are only doing this so we forget about last year's holiday single. ;)

    Perspective:

The Rolling Stones are a significantly "bigger" band than PJ the world over.*

Their concert film, Shine a Light, was directed by Martin Scorsese, a significantly "bigger" presence in the film world than Cameron Crowe.**

If Shine a Light wasn't playing in wide release in theatres, there is little to no probability of Pearl Jam Twenty playing in wide release in theatres.

Unless PJ really seeks to promote this, which is highly unlikely given their past history, Pearl Jam Twenty will play, at most, in limited engagement at art-house theatres.

*No, I'm not open to debate on this.

**Not a dis to Mr. Crowe. Rather, a reminder of how big Scorsese is.***

***Crowe name-checked him in Singles, remember?

    maybe some Tad,
    Mudhoney,
    etc.
    Cheers.

Shine A Light was playing in our local theaters and when it was released we had two movie theaters in our town (both the same company) and now we have only have the bigger left. I really hope that the people behind this PJ20 film will promote it the best they can and try to get it to theaters worldwide and not just film-festivals and small theaters (that doesn't really exist in many places anymore).

If not, I'm pretty sure none of us will miss the opportunity to buy the film itself and watch it at home ;)
It would obviously be great if they showed it in theatres worldwide, though!

I believe 99% of us will buy the film on DVD or Blue-ray even if we've seen it in a movie theater. That said let's hope it hits the movie theaters worldwide!

Really looking forward to this, along with Ukelele Songs, Water on the Road, the Ed solo show in June and a new album I'm guessing we can expect sometime in 2012.

Unfortunately I won't be making it to PJ20 or a Canadian show but with everything else going on it's more than satisfying to be a fan of this band!

If it ends up in theatres over here we could all easily work out some sort of fundraiser evening so all us TenClubbers go to the same session in our particular city... make an event of it!

This film is going to make me smile and cry and laugh and sing and reminisce and hope this band never needs to fall apart!!

Yess!!! "Pearl Jam Twenty will enjoy a unique, simultaneous worldwide theatrical release in select cities and venues in September and thereafter will roll out in an accelerated fashion... The soundtrack and DVD of the film will be released worldwide by Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment, with the soundtrack released simultaneous to the film in September and the DVD following with a release in October". Source: PJ20 press release from Cameron Crowe's blog: http://www.theuncool.com/2011/05/25/pea ... s-release/

Great news! I wonder if we will see a PJ20 deluxe package containing the Soundtrack on vinyl/cd, the Film on blue ray/dvd combo and the Book as a hardback version? That would be sweet...
