Do you guys think a Pearl Jam movie will even get played in a real live movie theater? In other words, do you think a schmuck like me who lives in Phoenix will get to see this at a theater? Somehow I doubt the vast viewing public would care about this enough to warrant many screens.....Thoughts?

    I thought it would.
The recent Foo Fighters doc was in independant theatres over in Australia for 4 days.
I suspect PJ20 would be similar!

    AMAZING News!
    High anticipation for all three!!!
I had it all once I gave it back

see, now, this really is the more exciting news of the day for the vast majority of us...
Exactly. The PJ20 shows will be awesome but for those of us who haven't got a chance of getting there this looks pretty cool!

I just hope we get a DVD or Bluray of both the PJ20 shows (full PJ set lists, not a highlights disc :D )

Guess what? We're going to be able to watch it on PBS. Check this out:

    http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/ ... jam&st=cse

The link says that the film will have its PBS premiere on Oct 21st. I believe we will see the film in theaters worldwide in September or early October.

The Foo Fighters documentary Back And Forth (+3D in-studio performance of the complete new album) was shown as a one night only thing in theaters internationally. With a famous director like Cameron Crowe I'm sure we will see the PJ20 Film in theater worldwide and longer than one night only...

I hope so, cos it being on PBS is meaningless for all of us living outside the US

At least you're in a big, well-known city that will most likely get the movie.

Yep! Try living on the east coast of Canada in a small town. I'm hoping one of our Empire Theatres will get a screening of the film. When Into The Wild was released, only one theater here, Park Lane, was screening the film. No other theater in the heart of Halifax had it available for showing.

A soundtrack? Really? Hahahahahahahaha I think I will make a playlist once I see the album.
could be tracks from unreleased shows.

i'm guessing audio versions of some of the live stuff they show in the film. will probably be amazing stuff!

Could also contain some non pearl jam tracks, early bands, influences and so on. For example the foos doco had a lot more then just foo fighters songs in it.

I remember Jarmusch Crazy Horse documentary got realesed in theatres here in Sweden but I bet this one won't. Maybe at Stockholm Filmfestival or Gothenburg International filmfestival.

Wil email the festivals and ask them about it.

I believe it will be released in Sweden and in Finland as well ;) Cameron Crowe is quite a famous director and his full length movies always get a theater so I also believe that a documentary of one of the most famous rock bands will get a theater release.

    - Almost Famous got a theater release ;). Pearl Jam is a lot more than almost famous!

This really is a big year for us PJ fans, very exciting. Though they are only doing this so we forget about last year's holiday single. ;)

    Perspective:

The Rolling Stones are a significantly "bigger" band than PJ the world over.*

Their concert film, Shine a Light, was directed by Martin Scorsese, a significantly "bigger" presence in the film world than Cameron Crowe.**

If Shine a Light wasn't playing in wide release in theatres, there is little to no probability of Pearl Jam Twenty playing in wide release in theatres.

Unless PJ really seeks to promote this, which is highly unlikely given their past history, Pearl Jam Twenty will play, at most, in limited engagement at art-house theatres.

*No, I'm not open to debate on this.

**Not a dis to Mr. Crowe. Rather, a reminder of how big Scorsese is.***

***Crowe name-checked him in Singles, remember?

i cant see this album being only pearl jam stuff...
    Agreed.
    I'm hoping for grunge era
    chestnuts from Alice in Chains,
    maybe some Tad,
    Mudhoney,
    etc.
    Cheers.

Shine A Light was playing in our local theaters and when it was released we had two movie theaters in our town (both the same company) and now we have only have the bigger left. I really hope that the people behind this PJ20 film will promote it the best they can and try to get it to theaters worldwide and not just film-festivals and small theaters (that doesn't really exist in many places anymore).

It would obviously be great if they showed it in theatres worldwide, though!

I believe 99% of us will buy the film on DVD or Blue-ray even if we've seen it in a movie theater. That said let's hope it hits the movie theaters worldwide!
