I can't remember the last time I saw somebody throw a cigarette out the window. Around here it's a littering ticket. I don't know what it costs now, because the last time I even heard of somebody getting in trouble for it was 10 years ago, and he had to pay $250 for it. But I see signs now that say the fine can be as high as $2000. And if there are dry conditions and wild fire danger you can get in more trouble.

I can't even remember the last time I saw somebody litter. I know it's become a big joke about our state and how we all carry guns or whatever, but "Don't Mess With Texas" is actually a very successful anti-littering campaign that was started back in the 80's that they claim has reduced littering by 72%. If people in your town are throwing around cigarettes like confetti then your state/country/whatever should start cracking down and letting people know that it would be much cheaper for them to dispose of their trash properly. That'll have them too scared to even ash out their window, much less toss it out.

I don't know why I get riled about this topic but it is one thing I wish the cops would look for more...I dole out my street justice when I see it....which usually involves me being mad in my car, but at least I am sending them angry thoughts

This is ONE of the things that aggravate me so much, I can't stand to see it especially here in South Florida. We haven't had much rain down in quite some time and when I see people throwing cigs out their car windows just erks me when it can easilly start a fire.

Cops will pull people over for discarding trash and I certainly hope they will do so for cigarettes because other than trashing the highways they can lead to someone being killed. Don't cars still are made with cigarette holders/ashtrays?

I admit I smoke (not very much, but I do). Yes, it is a gross habit, but it is what it is. I never throw any cigarette butts out of my car window, and I frown on those who do because, like other people have said numerous times, it is littering. It makes the environment nasty, and I once saw a squirrel trying to eat one and that sealed it for me.

It also helps them burn down our forests.
WHICH is now a 1 million dollar fine in British Columbia, no joke.

To add to the thread, I dislike it when some smokers do this. I think it's plain rude. Use a jar with some sand and a lid if you need to smoke in your car. My husband did when he smoked, and when the jar was full, he would throw it out. That's a lot more manageable to clean out of your car.

On a funny note, I have a close friend who did this when he used to smoke. Until he realized that because he had a hatchback, the butts were actually following aerodynamics and landing in his trunk space via the opened rear window. The burn marks and ashes were insane!! Now that's instant karma, baby!!:lol::lol:

Also, every dog owner should Poop and Scoop, regardless the size of the dog. It's still poop, no matter the size of it.

Also, I am not a smoker. Just second hand when my husband smoked...we have both been smoke-free for 8 years now.

I hope he didn't throw the full jar out the window!
    :)

:lol::lol: Definitely not! He also hated the cig butts out the window and when people dump the full ashtray out in parking areas. Although, one guy who did that in our area was busted...because it led the cops right to him...for murder. Serious.

Ok I'm guilty of this....on long cycling rides I have on many occasions thrown banana peels into the woods...only the woods. If no woods are around I'll store them in my jersey until I find some wooded patch.
I wonder IF I would STILL get a ticket for littering?

I don't know about the banana peel but if you wear those shorts on your long rides you definitely deserve a ticket

This is a good positive OP but of course it will turn into an all out rag on.

I think they are not thinking.. at all... and awareness is the answer.

Perhaps some of the tax dollar collected from cig sales can go to a campaign to bring that ...
most especially the danger of forest fires.
They could maybe bring back Smokey the Bear and call him Non-Smokey the Bear

Whenever I see a still-lit cigarette bouncing on the road ahead of me and I can't avoid driving over it, I always get the feeling that somehow my car will catch on fire and blow up. It's irrational, but I will always have that fear.

The thing that disgusts me the most is the fast food debris that constantly ends up in my front yard. People who litter should have the trash they discard shoved up their asses. Making them pay fines is never going to stop them, so I think uncivilized punishments are going to have to be applied. Some litterers may enjoy this, however.

I love every complaint about how someone hates another persons bad habits. Because for every fault you find in someone, YOU do something thats bugs that shit out of someone else. You are just too stubborn and self-righteous to realize it. The world is an imperfect place. Get used to it and turn the radio up and ROCK ON !!!!!!!

messy rooms lead to mice, cockroaches, mold, mildew, bedbugs etc. etc ets. And all of those things lead to a poorer quality of life and and bring down the value of a home and in turn bring down the property value of surrounding homes and the entire neighborhood. And then will soon spread to the next street and the next town over. Until eventually the world becomes infested by the vermin that started because of your messy room.

I agree that throwing butts out of cars is bad, but has it been pointed out yet that you are following in a car that is far more polluting than a butt?
