Same here. It seems like people are totally willing to point out the evils of Christianity, but, the minute you mention Islam, well, hey, they have feelings! Let's be sensitive.

What's the difference between the two religions?

My problem is - and admittedly I'm saying this as an atheist - is that a lot of people like to paint Muslims with a "broad brush" (to steal Kat's term). One Muslim does something bad = all Muslims are bad. They don't acknowledge that the actions of some represent the beliefs of all.

The reason some of us - myself included - respond by pointing out the "evils of Christianity" is to show the anti-Muslim crowd that the same argument can be applied there too. Neither side is perfect. The anti-Muslim crowd has no problems stating that pedophiliac priests, abortion clinic bombers, the IRA, the Westboro Baptist Church, etc don't represent Christians as a whole - the rest of us just hope that one day those same people will wake up and accept that Muslim extremists don't represent Muslims as a whole either.
