So Snoke was killed by getting cut in half, but Darth Maul was also cut in half and was able to use the dark side to sustain himself until he was found and then saved. That being said, the current working title for Episode IX is "Black Diamond", and Snoke wears a black diamond ring on his hand. So is it possible that he returns like Darth Maul did and plays a continued role in the next episode and we still get some more backstory on him?

How did Darth Maul return?
In the Clone Wars I believe
Really? I don't remember this.
It’s getting weird in here.
Halts Maul!

I think it would be sweet if the next film opens with simultaneous funerals for Leia and Snoke. Or the Resistance and all the good guys get attacked at Luke's funeral by the First Order and it starts that flame of rebellion in the galaxy.

An idea for ep9... Snoke comes back, he then tries to kill Kylo and Rey. Kylo and Rey need to team up to overcome him despite being on opposite sides of the force. Same way they teamed up to fight off Snoke's guards in ep8. Rey gets killed by Snoke during a battle and this causes Kylo to turn back to the light and he goes about redeeming himself by training a new generation of Jedi kids to make up for destroying what Luke built. The movie ends with Luke's and Rey's force ghosts smiling upon Kylo and he at them at the new academy.

even from his initial introduction in The Force Awakens I was never a fan of Finn. I really dislike his character even more after this one. I felt they wasted a lot of time on his character, and in my opinion he (Finn) is just worthless in these movies. No background on Snoke? What about Knights of Ren? Nothing? The casino scene was horrible in my opinion. Floating Leia was flat out comical. I did like the Kylo/Rey scene when they kicked ass together

Unless you think I'm talking about Attack of the Clones
Empire is the clear best. A New Hope and Force Awakens are basically tied for second place. The Ewok stuff and lighter tone hurts Return of the Jedi but Jabba's palace and the climax aboard the second Death Star are both awesome. Rogue One is only memorable because of the third act but that third act is SO GOOD. Last Jedi checks in ahead of the crap prequels but the more I think about it the less I like it.
My more nostalgic side wants to say that Empire and The Last Jedi are tied for first, but if “forced,” I’d have to give VIII the edge. Better script, better acting, better characters, better themes.
I didn't like the casino part but overall I absolutely loved the last Jedi (the middle kind of dragged). To me it is right up there with a force awakens. I guess my order would be: IV V VI Rogue one VII VIII III
A perfect storm of personal distastes. If I ranked them based on which I thought was best as opposed to favorite, I would put it near the top. Well made film, just didn't care for it.
The story is known to be a dead end before it starts so it's hard to care much about the characters. The characters were a huge disappointment, the trailers made Jyn look like twice the badass she turned out to be, which was a letdown after Rey's total screen domination. Saw Guerrera was the same, huge disappointment compared to what he could have been and done. Cassian, I didn't care for the casting. Diego Luna is just the Latin Johnny Depp, he may get some ladies revved, but he doesn't do anything for me. The characters were also fully formed from the start, despite a slow moving exposition opening and didn't have any compelling progression as the story went. That stuff all together just makes it a once and done film for me, I enjoyed it in the theatre (though not nearly as much as TFA) and I fell asleep and lost interest when I tried to watch the Blu-ray at home. The cameos and callbacks to A New Hope were fun, but novelties don't hold up well. Vader at the end though, that may be the best scene in the history of Star Wars on the silver screen. Absolutely epic, and perfectly done. Finding the balance between Vader's necessarily lumbering style and Force skills that are badass and interesting was something that needed done badly. The dueling scenes in the originals are terrible, boring and not "realistic" for a fighter who literally has super powers. The dueling scenes in the prequels are over the top but very entertaining. The new movies have cut a line between the two perfectly.

Very honest assessment that I respect and agree with (nice work!). The last 1/3 of Rogue One was so damn kick ass and that's why it ranks high with me. Vader at the end of Rogue One is the best scene out of all the Star Wars movies.

Sitting in the theater and first hearing Vader's breathing and then seeing him ignite the lightsaber was great. I fully expected the film to cut away at that point. Nope. When he started walking forward and I realized we were actually going to see him slaughter made for one if the coolest moments I've ever experienced at the movies.

Rian Johnson’s Luke Skywalker > Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker
And while we’re at it Rey >>>>>>>>>> Luke

Maybe Rian wanted us to all feel how Kylo feels, conflicted.
