But the attitude of the OP makes me more inclined to try and avoid that band at all cost.
I made that exact point in one of his old threads; he was clearly doing more harm than good. Someone was doing the same thing with Biffy Clyro a while back, it stuck in my head, and I still have yet to listen to anything by them.
all the youtube clips in the world of TMV or C&C will not convince me that they outdo soundgarden live or in the studio. I've seen them all live and heard the studio stuff and SG wins by far. There's a reason why one band is headlining all the shows and that reason is talent. Again, SG live now is pretty damn good and as far as discography goes they hold up by far
First off, I am not a street team member, just a fan of this amazing band. Also, I don't know
what OP is? I'm sorry if am passionate about this band, but there is a reason soundgarden chose them
to open for them. They recognize the musical talent this band has. They aren't selling out stadiums yet,
but they are getting pretty close. They just went on a sold out tour promoting their 10 year anniversary.
I know I can't convince people to like this band. I'm just shocked some of you won't even give them a chance.
I still think after you see them live then your mind may change. I will give you one more video. I was actually at this sold out show.

Yeah. The way you push them constantly dude, it actually turns people off of them.
Also, I agree that whoever said Cedrics voice is better then Cornells is nutso. Cornell has one of the best, and most distinctive voices, probably in the history of rock.

back when C&C first came out, i took a small road trip with a friend and her friends....all i got was 4 hours of C&C... it was the same album or two over and over again... it was ok for the first few songs, but it became so obnoxious real fast... i hated them...my friend did too..and these kids wouldnt turn it off. i recently gave them a chance again seeing that they are opening for SG.. they are just ok..., their ideas are cool i guess. the guys voice is different... but still cant get into them.. but i thought id wait to see them and give them another chance....but reading this pile of crap thread completely turned me off..reminds me of my first experience with them...so....ill be in the parking lot...
TMV.. im disappointed that they arent opening the jones beach show... i really like them... i do understand that a lot of people dont like them... and thats ok...
QOSTA- i saw them back in 00 i think opening for the foo fighters... they were ok, (sidenote- foo fighters were better when i saw them in 97) based on what i heard back then, id never think theyd be as big as they are now... i should go back and give them another shot though
soundgarden- cant wait to see them. i saw them in 96 and cornells voice was not that good at all...but the show was awesome... chris cornells voice sounds better than ever now, so id imagine it would be hard to show up this band.... or feel bad for them...
I am so happy that Soundgarden has finally released some tour dates this summer. I m' a massive of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and I don't really know what to do this summer.....which one to pick up!!
I would love to fly l over from France to attend a few Soundgarden shows...but i would just as much love to see Pearl Jam on their 20th birthday......Which one would you pick?
Book my holliday to see Soundgarden this summer or wait until Pearl Jam releases some of their plans for later this year.....

It's your delivery mechanism, dude. You're setting yourself up to lose when you tell a bunch of Soundgarden fans that an opening band is going to "steal the show." I'm totally with you on Coheed and Cambria; I have all the records and they have destroyed every time I've seen them live. It's awesome to be passionate, but you'll never win others over if you beat them over the head or slag one of their favorite bands.
I tried listening to their last album. It's not the worst, but they are in no way in the same league as Soundgarden. The one song Made of Nothing sounded like it could be on American Idol or sung by Hannah Montana. It was terrible. I don't think they are for me.
When FASCISM Comes To America
it will be wrapped in the FLAG and
carrying a CROSS.

I love C&C. I discovered them about 10 years ago when I was 18. I've been going to their shows ever since.
HOWEVER...big however.
A big chunk of their fans royally suck the shit out of my ass.
It's an aquired taste. They have some catchy poppy tunes that are easy listening, but with his voice, and some of the prog stuff, they're definitely an aquired taste more often than just listen and love. The majority of people aren't going to like them and for some reason a lot of their fan base just won't accept that and then hold an elitist attitude over that. The last couple of shows have been a bit hard to swallow with how people complain non stop.
And to the OP, yes they have a lot of energy and put on a great live show(if you're into it) but to say it's the most energetic, or best live show isn't smart.
Go to a Dillinger Escape Plan show if you want energy. C&C will never keep up with that. That's the much better band that Chris Pennie was in.

Awesome post.
Glad you like them. I would certainly give a solid listen (based on your recommendation) if I was going to a show where they opened.
The youtube stuff hasn't caught my attention in a good way yet, but you never know.
Nuthin wrong with havin an opinion and a lil' pride to back it up with. I watched the Welcome Home vid with Haynes in it, well, because it's Warren! Yeah, they're good, and cudos to the whole concept albums thing, tons of creativty.
But I just came away from the vid thinkin, "meh, sounds like a soundtrack for the next Marvel superheroes movie." Nuthin wrong with that, just a little too polished and not quite what I'd call "raw" -- more like a medium-well actually. I would think if they were the next big thing, they'd be it already, 15-years on is kinda getting long in da tooth.
And this is really just another flavor of "European crowds are better than American crowds." It's a subjective opinion open for lots of debate. Nothing I saw in any of the videos re: crowd energy was any more awesome than any Iron Maiden crowd in the 80s, 90s or 00s when they drop The Trooper (a "concept" song) ... and pales in comparison to Hallowed Be Thy Name. But at some point, a mosh pit by any other name is still....
Part of the C&C thing seems to be the fans having grown with them and following this whole literary/lyrical concept, giving them that sacred treasure of "I get it, I've followed how this has grown, and you don't get it." That's a very effective tactic in brand loyalty! In-group Identity! You have no idea what real rock-n-roll is until you've seen __________ in a small club!
Believe me, Maiden WAS the next big thing, I was there in the hey day and knew I had found the motherlode. Great to spread the word, but that wasn't gonna have any of the Zep or Stones fans convinced. Let's check back on this thread in another 10-15 years. Meanwhile, enjoy it, your fav band is opening for a bunch of ol' geezers ... who are well-versed in the arts of face melting, ass kicking rock-n-roll.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
Osaka, Japan (2/21/95), San Diego (7/10/98), Las Vegas (10/22/00), San Diego (10/25/00), Las Vegas (6/6/03), Las Vegas (7/6/06), Los Angeles (7/9/06), VH1 Rock Honors (7/12/08), Ed Solo (7/8/11), Ed Solo (11/1/12), Los Angeles (11/23/13)
I'm not familiar with Coheed & Cambria and would rather have QOTSA open in Toronto but one of my good friends claims C&C are great and a girl at the office likes them too..
All I can say is I better enjoy it because I'm seeing them twice in 2 weeks.. opening for Soundgarden in Toronto July 2 & Metallica in Halifax on July 14..
I suppose anything is better than having to sit through the Arcade Fire open for U2 on July 30.. just gross.
life is the study of dyin'
and how to do it right
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't get past the lead singer of Coheed and Cambria's voice. A few notes, and my ears start screaming in horrible protest. It's great that you like them, Unknown. I don't know how many live shows you go to. I've seen Coheed and Cambria live (briefly) on Warped Tour. I could name many, many bands that play with as much or poor energy, and who are quite frankly better live bands.
The worst comment on the thread was the one stating Cedric from The Mars Volta's voice is better than Cornell's. That is possibly the most comical thing I have read on this board since the guy who posted daily threads about the band Smashmouth. I like The Mars Volta. Frances the Mute, for me, is one of the best albums of the last ten years (and far superior to De-loused). I generally like Cedric's voice. But he NEVER belongs in the same conversation with Chris Cornell. Few in the history of rock do. I just saw Cornell on Tuesday night, and even at his age and after chain smoking for many years, his vocal range is simply jaw-dropping.
As for The Mars Volta, everything they've done since they fired Theodore has been sub-par, and their live shows aren't nearly as good. And now they've fire Pridgen too. I met Cedric and Omar backstage briefly when they played Outside Lands, and they are fucking pretentious assholes. Their music is suffering for it.
Always enjoyed TMV live . Those 2 drummers for TMV really hit the skins well..It's a shame they keep getting rid of good drummers ......Just like PJ
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)
What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
Theres a reason Soundgarden and Metallica picked this band to tour with. They are both huge fans of them and know that they put on a top notch show. Trust me, if you aren't a fan of this band and are going to these shows, you are going to be a huge fan of them when you leave. There isn't a doubt in my mind. For anyone who hasn't seen the song "In Keeping Secrets " live, you are in for a real treat. It is the most intense song I have ever seen live. I hope a lot of you report back after the shows.
I will, I'm not very familiar with them, but am excited to see them.. And if they don't do it for me, after them is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, then The Flaming LIps, then Soundgarden.
Gonna be a great day.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
I like Warren and he is a huge supporter of C&C. They are good musicians, good guys and quite unique. Soundgarden must recognize something in them too.
Your absolutely right. The most down to earth rock stars I've ever met. Always meet with their fans after their shows and take pictures and sign autographs. Very similar to PJ as they have been doing bootlegs on their headlining shows. On their recent tour, they played over 3 hours for their fans. Everyone is in for a real treat. If you don't get chills from this video from the 6:50 minute mark on, then theres something wrong with you. These guys are great musicians, and its nice to see Soundgarden and many other bands recognize their skill. Warren Hayes has said that Travis Stever and Claudio Sanches are guitar gods in their own right. Now is that not saying something....
So, I saw them live last week. While good, they did not blow me away. The Flaming Lips later in the day were much better, as were Soundgarden. They were 1 of 18 bands I saw last week, and they didn't blow me away. I dug the set, but definitely not a top 10 band I've seen this week.
That would be:
The Roots
The Flaming Lips
Alberta Cross
Soundgarden
Josh Ritter
Peter Frampton
Dropkick Murphys
The Tragically Hip
The Greenhornes
The Black Keys
Ben Harper
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes
THEN I'd put Coheed up there. It's not that they were bad, I just didn't love what they were doing. Great musicians, but no songs that grabbed me.
