I was in the 6th grade and hadn't even heard of Pearl Jam.
My favorite bands at that time were Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, Elton John, and Roxette!!

Yeah, the Bartman! I almost forgot about that!!
After reading all of these stories, I realized that I DID listen to a couple of bands that year at age 9...New Kids on the Block and MC Hammer.

I was listening to Vanilla Ice and Kris Kross...

Yeah... Vanilla Ice, Kriss Kross and Hammer, that was my life before PJ. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ED THAT TAPE JACK IRONS... YOU SAVED MY LIFE! But I'm still known to drop some "I missed the Bus" or "Ninja Rap" for nostalgia purposes.

watching the Chicago Bulls win their first title!
standing in line to see "Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves" and "Terminator 2:Judgment Day"... and "New Jack City"!
and dancing to C & C music factory!

    Pearl jam came in 1992.
Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that.

It is cool to read everyones replies!

I was 9 going on 10 in year 5, my tape collection was bizzarre to say the least - GnR, Kriss Kross (will make ya jump), NKOTB :? , The Beatles, Jenny Morris... Discovered PJ in december 91 when staying at my dad's stoner friends for the summer, I sat in the living room with the headphones on the whole time and dubbed ten. I was hooked :D when I got home the rest of the tapes went in a box at the back of the wardrobe.

in 1991 i was 10, going on 11. my family left nelson to move back to wellington where we've all been ever since. infact this time 10 years ago we were just about to leave. that was sad because nelson is the best place to grow up, but i'm glad i'm back in my hometown because nothing beats wellington.

i was just starting to become interested in music, but nothing good. i really liked mariah carey and allanah myles. i also loved jenny morris (whoo tinkerbell!) and nkotb.

the simpsons had just come to nz. i had a maggie simpson pencil that someone gave me as a farewell gift.

at school we used to take walnuts and leaves and race them down gutters.

i still had the remnants of my late 80s mullet. my school photo that year featured me wearing a lovely black and white panda sweater. and the worst hair day of all time.

20 years ago? I was 14 and in the 8th grade...getting ready for high school.

At the time i was just getting out of bands like INXS and U2 and getting into slightly harder stuff like Metallica, GnR, etc but mostly discovering Led Zeppelin.

My introduction to Pearl Jam was the Jeremy video on Much Music, probably late summer 1992...bought Ten on cassette immediately.

To this day i still remember that first listen, Friday night driving up to the family cottage listening to it on my walkman in the back of my parents wagon...i was immediately in awe of what i was hearing, but that run of Black thru Garden absolutely sold the deal for me.

20 years of following the greatest band alive!

Sophomore going on 16, riding skateboards, stealing 40s, and listening to a lot of Eazy-E. PJ was introduced to me the following school year...thank goodness. I worked at a seafood restaurant where I remember listening to "Alive" over and over one particular day, which led to one of the girls we worked with complaining "Is that all you guys are going to listen to?" I remember standing there in that kitchen like it was yesterday telling her YES IT IS!!!

at this time of the year I was a few months shy of 17 years old...........grade 11 high school.............really, really, high school..........waiting in eager anticipation for Metallica's The Black Album to come out in a few months........and then just like *THAT* my metal years were HISTORY.

My best man even brought up PJ in his toast to the groom in 2004.

19 and in my second year of University. I almost fluked out my first year, so this was the year I got serious. All I did was study. I took an extra semester, so I studied all spring, too. No time for fun...I needed a 3.2 GPA to even be considered in the faculty I chose.
