not really sure what you all are smoking, but i dont get how someone hallucinating and thinking that i refered to grunge as anything other than what it was. I dont know how that makes people feel like they are being talked to as idiots. maybe because people feel like they are indeed idiots?

The point remains, you dont know a damn thing about me. ive been posting on this board since 2003. And people have some idea of who they think i am, but again, if you are suggesting i am a pbr drinking person, or a fixie owner, you are seriously mistaken. for one, im straight edge, so i dont really think drinking would work well with that, and i dont own a fixie. i own a used bike, but its not a fixie.

Generally though, you associate p4k with a certain type of music. sure they cover dubstep, and electronic, pop, rock, hip hop, dance, punk, metal and so on, but lets face it, if p4k is covering it, generally its going to be indie. i dont know how anyone could argue otherwise.

Who gives a shit about pitchfork? I've found plenty of awesome indie music without the assistance of any pretentious websites. Just because that's where you get your info there and that's who tells you how to dress and what to listen to doesn't mean everyone else feels the same way.

Also pitchfork took the time of day to review Foo Fighters, and they sure ain't no indie band.

  • i also think its conceited of someone to call me a poseur. again, do you know me? have we met? do you know me personally in any way to make that judgement call in a rational way? just because i do read p4k and wear skinny jeans doesnt make me a poseur, any more than it makes any of you for being poseurs if you have long hair and are into rock music, or wear black and are into metal.

i am not into indie because its cool or the in thing. im into it because it changed and saved my life. the fact that its the most talked about and vibrant music movement in existance right now is just icing on the cake.

any question reguarding if you were a nice person pretty much evaporated with that last post. you are a vindictive and vicious person, johnny. this thread is about indie music. the best of it. It would be absurd to have a conversation about modern indie music without mentioning p4k or brooklyn vegan or stereogum. the newest and most hyped indie bands are on p4k's best of music list. thats fact. You want to know what the big indie band of the moment is? you read the best of music list. Thats just common sense.

Reguarding the foo's, they review pop and rock/non indie music all the time. just because they review something doesnt mean they like it, in fact, the review of the album was rather mediocre, and it didnt get a high score. They could review britney or kesha, doesnt mean they like the album...

you obviously have never been to any website like p4k or brooklyn vegan, as ive never seen reviews of the latest fashion. dont know what sites you are visiting, but ive never seen them give the latest american apparel clothes a best new clothes/outfit tag.

im not telling anyone to like or not like anything. you are doing that. the OP wanted to know the best indie bands. Seems outrageous to me anyone would question myself pointing out that its pretty damn obvious this person aint gonna find the answer in spin or Rolling Stone or on MTV. The are gonna need to fire up the modem and check out p4k and the other blogs.

You may not like any of those sites and blogs, but lets not pretend they dont have power over not just me, but alot of people in terms of what they listen to. Again, next time p4k gives an album a best new music tag, head over to what.cd and check out the top 10 torrents list. the best new music'd album will be near the top of the list.

lets face it. what are the big names in 2011? james blake, tune yards, lykki li, the weeknd, pains, the odd future collective. All those bands are not big just because p4k loves them, but they owe some of their current status to the hype that p4k and other sites bring to the table about them

What the hell does it matter to you about p4k. im not putting the gun to your head telling you to view the site. The OP wanted best indie bands lists. What better information are they gonna get than the newest buzz bands that p4k, stereogum, and brooklyn vegan, as well as KEXP and KCRW love?

Plain as day. You dont like p4k, dont visit. You sir, are a complete IDIOT!

as opposed to your own posts, or everyone elses here or elsewhere on the net, which are cogent, cohesive, and are not ridiculous?
  • cause, when i want intelligent thoughtful writing, i check out dewiecox, the mastermind behind the mindblowing quips and statements like he felt the new MMJ track was okay, but hoped it was his least favorite track on the new record. you really did dig deep for that morsel didnt you friend? or the fact you feel regine is ugly? how is that even cogent to AF at all? im sure you personally are the epitome of beauty right?

I love people who live in glass houses.
  • i think its the sort of wide eyed off putting nature thats brought to the table here by you two thats disturbing. when you mention p4k, people dont think an outpost for pop music. or metal music. or techno music. or alt rock music. they think indie music. i find it incredibly annoying people would even debate the issue. this is furthered muddied by the fact you suggested i was a poseur for reading p4k. thus you yourself equate p4k with the hipster and indie lifestyle and genre. how can i be a poseur for viewing a hipster and indie site, that is called out as being not an indie site?

i'd sort out your argument before you post it

Long ago when i was on a job interview for some type of office job, i was asked what type of music I liked. I responded that i liked alot of indie rock.

The interviewer ask if that was rock from Indianapolis. :o

What a tool, I didnt get the job. Probably wouldnt have fit in.
There's a trapdoor in the sun.
  • so, DEEP, you listened to any of the bands mentioned yet? Im kind of jealous of you. to be a newcomer in the indie scene, and to not know too many bands, and then to be exposed to all the riches of the scene, i imagine it would be like a kid in a candy store. any number of the bands mentioned already changed my life and fundamentally altered me.

Very nice. Vindictive and vicious person. Sure.

    Let's see:

You have told me that because I have a kid that I can't possibly be interested in or get indie music and you called me a complete IDIOT. If I felt like it I could pull a few other things out, but it's really not worth my effort.

People call you a poseur for indie because you have described yourself precisely in that manner.

You define a genre of music that, by definition, is independent and fluid, as music that is covered by a few websites that you like, because the top music on some other website you like tends to be correlated to what the other websites cover, or something like that.

I'm done here. Just enjoy the music - that's what I do.

Oh yeah, I remember. You said I had no right to criticize the Radiohead album because I couldn't make a better album myself, and basically to sit down and shut up. Nice.

so to stress it again. Do you know me? are we friends outside of the computer? do you know my life situation? do you know anything about me other than some posts on a message board? if you dont know me outside of this situation, you really dont get to tell me who or what i am. or tell me that im a poseur.

im reporting both of you to the mods. not because im a tattle tale, or teachers pet, but i think its disturbing that people would despite my pleadings, continue to do something i asked you not to do.

Im into discussing indie music and good bands within the genre. what im not into, is being labeled, and made fun of, and being harassed because of you taking some internet post out of context.

again, dont act like you know me. you dont. dont call me a poseur. do you want me to ask a third time, or you gonna listen?

wow. you are going to report us to the mods for calling you a poser? i'm hardly harrassing you here. this is my second post on this thread over the course of a few days. good luck with that. you're right, i don't know you personally, and i don't care to know you personally. my opinion though is that you come off as a poser on here. sorry if you don't like it. it's just my opinion. and yes, i'm done now...not because i'm listening to you, but because this is just silly.

im a huge bright eyes fan, and he changed my life, but naming yourself after one of the biggest acts in indie rock, is hardly a unique or countercultural move. To say you are a fan his, and to actually have a username that reflects that, is that supposed to be edgy and unique? I'd look in the mirror before casting aspersions. again, glass house much?

ugh...listen critcsaremylife78....it's a name on a message board. i wasn't really trying to make an artistic statement. further more, how do you know that the word Lifted is referring to Bright Eyes? just cause i'm a fan and that's the first word of one of their album titles?...you are right though. good call.

ive never really understood how people can be so cruel on the net. when i posted about p4k the original time, why didnt you 3 say, or post "thats fine, but ive never been a fan of that site. my suggestion would be...". why go personal and call me names and stuff, and then continue it even when i asked you to stop?

i understand as broad as this genre is, especially in 2011, that not everyone will agree on stuff, but i never understood the personal aspect of it. i called you vindictive only after you went after me.

why do people feel like they need to not only disagree, but cut down the opinion and murder it, flog it?

fine you dont like p4k? big freakin whoop. i could care less. how is it constructive in any manner to call me names?

i dont get place like this sometimes

i also find it highly amusing you all have been ragging on my posts which you find annoying. well theres that ignore button there, right? i also think as ive said 3 times now, when you are making accusations you best make sure your own hands are clean. To suggest my posts are vomit worthy and annoying is to imply that your own posts are somehow valiant, important and valid. you really think you guys have no one on here that feels the same way about you and your own posts. i can think of one...

    From the Billy Joel thread:
its definitely become a commodity, but i love it. i am a walking stereotype. zach braff haircut, skinny jeans, read p4k religiously, go to concerts obsessively, and love all the stereotypical bands.

Will you report me for quoting you?

so when in there do i say i do that stuff only because its the cool or in or hip thing? to call someone a poseur is to imply they are engaging in actions to fit in, to be like everyone else etc...

And second, thanks for posting that, it proves as ive maintained for pages now, that i never said i own a fixie, because well...i dont own a fixie, and two, i never said i drank pbr, because, well...im a straight edger.

the quote you posted proves nothing cogent really to the discussion. the fact i posted that, doesnt mean that you can call me a poseur or any other name, or harass me, even continueing on when i tell you to stop it. thats unacceptable, and uncalled for.

Again, you dont know me. You have no right to assert you do know me. Id love to tell you about me, but i have a real problem with people who think because they see a few posts from me on a BBS, they somehow can understand who i am or my life story. you dont know me johnny. I'd lay off. Seriously...

I don't understand what I did. I quoted you from another thread, and that was it. I actually take great care to follow the forum rules here.

yep, so the proper thing is always, quote someone. look at their post history and quote them. i am online, nevermind talking to me in a human, kind manner, lets just assume things. whats that saying about assuming?

and i think in that post you quoted i talked about "we", as in the hipster/indie movement/scene. i think a big cue would have been the term "we", thats a big tip off.

you wear glasses and forget to put them on?

ever heard of the royal we? not the SSPU song, but the term?
