Seattle II 2000
A critical performance for the dedicated Pearl Jam fan to hear at least once, the second night in Seattle 2000 is an emotional and important bootleg. The final gig of the mammoth tour starts with a somber version of Release. Ed’s vocals sound sorrowful and mellow in a way. Stone’s riff is mixed up high here and is quite prominent, but it’s a nice tone with warmth and some crunch. Corduroy-Grievance excels for at least two reasons. First, Release and Corduroy are like peanut butter and jelly, they are made for one another and always work. Second, because of Corduroy, having Grievance follow it makes Grievance sound extra forceful and heavy. The wall of guitars on Grievance sounds massive to me. Masterfully, RVM is the fourth song tonight. I adore having it early in the set like this. It feels more like an adrenaline rush with the guitars being so loud in this mix, creating a portrait as if they are tidal waves moving up and down, crashing at a frantic pace. Props to Stone and Mike on RVM here, they were quite amazing to my ears.

The next three songs is a fantastic stretch, Hail Hail-Evacuation-Dissident. Matt’s cymbal work fit Hail Hail nicely here, in an offbeat way that he did back in 2000. Both it and Evacuation are good renditions, the latter is especially worth noting since it’s a tricky little bugger live. The performance of NAIS tonight is flawless, and Mike sounds amazing; top quality performance from all. Beautifully done, In Hiding follows and doesn’t disappoint, especially having it played right after NAIS. Leatherman kicks off the Man trilogy, Leather-Better-Nothing. The trilogy is dependably solid here. Especially for Betterman, Eddie sounds extra passionate in the tag. Even Flow-Jeremy, double whammy of Ten follows. Jeremy created a mood that is undeniable, a slower tempo but just as effective. Lukin-NFY cooks, love hearing Jeff’s bassline come in during NFY and Stone steals the song. Daughter seamlessly begins as the outro of NFY fades, it is wonderful set flow there. The It’s Ok tag is poignant between Ed’s vocals and Stone’s atmospheric riffs, bringing the main set to a close.

Off He Goes-Light Years-Parting Ways is gorgeous. Ed’s vocals shine in Light Years, but there were a couple parts from Mike and Stone that sounded a tad off but still a good play. This rendition of Parting Ways is stunning, the additional musicians on stage added to the song in subtle ways making it more beautiful. I think this is probably my favorite version of the rarity. Stone’s guitar tone at the end having that right amount of crunch in its textures and Mike’s spacey effects, this version is hard to top. When Go-Once hit next, it feels intense. Crazy Mary in 2000 is so much darker in tone than 2003-present. Stone and Jeff particularly sound warm and relaxed. I adore that one riff Stone does before the first chorus. Although he struggled with Immortality this tour, Ed does well with it tonight. The solo of the song sounds so crisp in this boot mix, Matt’s kit especially. The outro too, is exceptional, tribal like and so enjoyable. Hearing Alive end the first encore gave me chills; of course as many know it’s the only time played on the US 2000 boots.

Ed compliments the crowd and their energy, discusses the love hate relationship with rich people, jokes around of playing heavy metal hits, and the need for respect of music and the youth in Seattle. The version of Soon Forget is one I thought was tight and no lyrical flubs that I noticed. The full band playing The Kids Are Alright is the right fit after Ed’s comments; I enjoy the 1950’s vibe the song has. Along with Timeless Melody, they need to bring these covers back! Baba O’Riley follows, a double hit of Who covers. Both have upbeat vibes and energy. The band come out for one more. With Stone and Mike putting out some sweet riffs, Yellow Ledbetter ends the 72 show sprint of the incredible 2000 tour; very much feeling like a sincere goodbye.

In my opinion, it is impossible to deny the importance and power of this bootleg. Certainly emotional, it hits at one’s heart. I cannot begin to fathom how the band dealt with the US 2000 tour after the tragedy in Denmark. But they sure as hell put on a lot of great shows in all three legs of the 2000 tour, and it does often seem the music was healing for them too. Many of the US 00 shows are played with a heavy heart from the band and you can feel it. Here is no exception, and Ed stating how it may be the band’s last gig or at least for a long time is incredibly hard to take in, but utmost understandable. However, the shows from the tour are typically tight, a darker energy, and still lots of hard hitting rock. This one is quite a tight performance, solid setlist, emotional, and one you need to have in your collection. It’s an essential bootleg.

Totally agree with all of this. I listen to this boot at least once a year, which is a lot considering all the boots they have.

There's a lot of things that come with the word "wild"... Things like "wild at heart", "born to be wild", "into the wild"... But then there's this thing like "in your wildest dreams"... Some of the support we've got over the years, it's taken shape in forms that we could've never predicted, or expected or even encouraged... It's just kind of happened... In this case, there's one individual we'd like to point out because five years ago to the day I believe... There's something called the Wishlist Foundation that was started by a concerned citizen and also a fan of the group... Today's their five-year birthday... Five-year anniversary... Started on their own volition... To this day, in the last five years, she's raised by having gatherings before shows, and having little auctions... All the proceeds have gone to things that have been closed to the band... Crohn's Colitis, Surf Rider, West Memphis Three... But this ain't small potatoes, this is one woman that started it... The last five years, she's raised half a fucking million dollars... Her name's Laura Trafton and she's right there... This is "Thank you Laura"... Thank you Laura... Heyheyheyyy... And now everybody else who was part of the group, we appreciate it... Again, it's beyond our wildest dreams and we're very grateful... This one's for you... ~ Eddie Vedder
