You know a show is going to be good when it opens with Of The Girl and Brain Of J :D . Most of Of The Girl is great but not digging Boom's keys over the top. Kinda gives me the same feeling as Release at London o2 '09 - the piano wasn't needed there either. Alone gets an early slot in the set 5th song in and you just get the feeling early on this is going to be a cracker of a boot. Amongst The Waves, Immortality and In Hiding is good and a few songs later Brother makes its only appearance of 2010. To date this is the last time it has been played. It's a song I'd love to see get played more. Glorified G is next and just as awesome. Leatherman is another making a rare appearance and it is the first time it is played in 3 years. The odd combo of Lukin and Once end a super main set.

Just Breathe opens the 1st encore and then Ed says "this is a request from 2 nights ago", to which Footsteps is played. Inside Job keeps the mellow vibe going. Got Some and Go break that mellow vibe though!

The 2nd encore begins with Jersey Girl and at the end all the crowd shout "Bruuuucccccce" thinking its a Springsteen song, Ed correcting the crowd saying "No-one loves Bruce more than me but that was a song by Tom Waits". You Are makes its 1st appearance of the tour and it is really good to hear. Whipping and Life Wasted follow, Life Wasted feeling abit out of place. Alive doesn't sound out of place and as you hear the opening refrains of Indifference you think that's it. However the band pull one more rabbit out of the hat and it is All Along The Watchtower that completes a brilliant show.

Along with the previous night in Boston, this is a fantastic boot.

Love that boot and loved the show. At the time, a lot of people ripped on the crowd, which, albeit not at typical NYC levels, i thought was fine. More importantly, it is one of my favorite sets. I also recall many people speculating that it would be a "greatest hits show", which it clearly was not! It was an awesome show. Also, they dropped Breath and No way from the set (picking up You Are), which would have really taken it over the top!

This is probably my favorite show I've ever been to. Not the best - I was at that show two nights ago - but my favorite.

Highlights, and there are many: You Are, Inside Job, Alone, Leatherman, Amongst the Waves, Brother, Footsteps, Go, Of The Girl opener, Immortality, In Hiding, Insignificance, Whipping, and Glorified G - which, if I recall correctly, Mike forced Eddie into playing by playing the riff.

As far as the crowd goes, it was bad. But I held it down for my section full of people who refused to stand until they played Jersey Girl, and that's all I can control. I even recall them coming back after the first intermission and Eddie saying something like "We're just gonna assume you wanted us to come back out. I get it, you're a quiet crowd, but that's okay."

I forgot about Ed's comment about the crowd. Maybe that is why they dropped Breath? They dropped Hold On as well, but that seemed to be as a result of adding You Are in response to a fan request at the show.

Sorry - wasnt Hold On; it was No Way. My bad (but still hurts nonetheless). Still would have been awesome to hear (Breath in end of first encores before Go, and No Way, Leaving Here in the second encores, plus ALive would have been after Go in the main set and Porch would have replaced Alive in the second encores)

    MSG I '10

Penultimate show of the US 2010 tour. Sometimes eases us in before the band up the tempo a notch or three! - Breakerfall/Last Exit/Animal/The Fixer/Severed Hand. Small Town & I Am Mine gives everyone a chance to catch their breath. Comatose is played fairly early in the set, Force Of Nature makes it's last appearance to date and Even Flow tries to take the roof off. Lowlight follows, Ed describing it as one of his favourites to sing and invites the crowd to join in - "it's all a party at this point". Army Reserve is dedicated to a Lieutenant who Ed got word returned from Iraq the day before the gig and like Force Of Nature this is the last time Army Reserve has been played too date. After Insignificance talks to the crowd about MSG 03 when the stage was "tremoring" and says they've already felt it a few times at the show already. Evolution ends the main set.

Encore 1 begins with The End and Ed is accompanied by a 4 string quartet. Lukin is next and the quartet joins in but it's not that impressive to be honest. The mellow vibe continues with Just Breathe. The acoustic guitars & strings are ditched for You Are. Love Reign O'er Me makes it's 2nd and last showing of 2010. Probably one of my favourites versions of LROE. Ed says it was Pete Townshend's birthday the day before so he gets the crowd to shout out "Happy Birthday Pete". State Of Love And Trust, Once and Porch ensure a blistering end to the 1st Encore.

Encore 2 begins with Jeremy and Leash before Stone is handed the mic for Mankind. Two covers are next, Crazy Mary and I Believe In Miracles. Alive goes to another level and Indifference ends the show on a perfect note, ready for night 2! When the band stop playing and the crowd sing "I will scream my lungs out til it fills this room" is one hell of a moment.

Enjoyable boot but Boston and Newark are still my top 2 from this tour. Onto MSG II later to see if that can break into my top 2 of US 2010.
