I've been listening to this one and can't get enough! Tremor Christ and In My Tree are awesome versions here! It's a great show all around. Footsteps at the end is so gentle, almost hypnotic.

BERLIN 10...
Oh and hi! Haven't had a chance to listen to any boots for a while, may as well start with something special...
Like a book among the many on a shelf...
Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.

And I planted my bolo knife in the neck of mad John Finn. I took his wretched life.
Now I'm over near the bandstand, every hand moving on John Finn's wife...
Pearl Jam return to LA 5 days after the 2nd night at the Gibson Ampitheater. Sometimes kicks us off followed by the uptempo Breakerfall, Instellar Overdrive/Corduroy and Save You. Faithfull makes its 4th appearance in 2009 followed by a rousing Even Flow and Unemployable. Johnny Guitar gets a later slot in the main set and Off He Goes is probably the last highlight of the main set. Some great guitar licks towards the end of the song.
Encore 1 is pretty much a repeat of the 1st encore 5 nights ago, which to a degree is disappointing. Lukin is slightly better this time with the string quartet. A good Rearviewmirror closes the encore. At the start of encore 2 Ed says the crowd are in for a treat and he is not wrong. Once kicks the encore off, followed by a sublime Footsteps. The Mamasan Trilogy is however interrupted by the introduction of Chris Cornell for Hunger Strike. When Ed announces Chris Cornell the crowd literally go insane and honestly its the 1st time in any of the LA shows that you can really hear the crowd. Hunger Strike is excellent, 1st time it has been played in 3 years since Antwerp '06 and the 1st TOTD reunion since Santa Barbara '03 if memory serves me right. Alive is the last song of the night and Jerry Cantrell joins in on this one. At this point I prefer LA3 over nights 1 and 2. LA4 will be next, will see where this compares to the previous 3 shows!

Washington, D.C. 2010/5/13. Can't say I'm a huge fan of small town as an opener but it gets going nicely after that with wws, got some, brain of j, and save you. Awesome performances of faithfull and all those yeaterdays come later just before a beautiful black with a unique tag. Need to give that a few more listens to get it all down. Time to load up some different bootlegs.

Excellent start to the show with Release followed by Animal. In My Tree makes for a great appearance at the 4th song in and is a great performance minus the timing issue at the beginning. After that, the main set is just kind of a jumbled mess of songs. When you see the set list on paper, your eyes kind of light up seeing all of the rarities - but I just don't think the set list flows the greatest for this show. For me, that makes it a little more to really get dialed in and follow the boot. Another example of how the rarities don't always necessarily make for a better show and flow. But a lot of rarities are played in the main set, and for the most part, is a pretty tight performance. Sad is played which is closely followed by Pilate, Hail Hail in a really weird spot in the middle of the set list, and Push Me Pull Me. Undone is then played later and is the last time it's been played to date and only the 4th time ever played. Great end to the main set with Red Mosquito, SOLAT, and Why Go.
The rarities continue in the 1st encore opening with Bee Girl, brilliant version of Love Reign O'er Me, Rival (also the last time it's been played to date). Save You an RVM close the first encore.
The 2nd encore is fantastic opening with Smile, Wasted Reprise, Better Man, and then Soldier Of Love makes a very nice appearance. The rarities continue with Crown Of Thorns being played next, and then Alive and RITFW to close out the show.
Overall a good boot and good show, as they always seem to have in Boston. I think it's a boot that's maybe over-hyped a little bit on here because of all the rarities, but for me, there is just something about it that makes the flow of the set seem off and more difficult to listen to.

The opening 3 song combo (Small Town-Corduroy-Do the Evolution) works really well, and all three are solid energetic takes. At this location too, Small Town does truly work as an opener. The first critique that I noticed at this gig was a slightly "off" sounding Severed Hand. There simply isn't enough guitars in the mix after the intro and compared to many other shows, the tempo feels almost sluggish. A few other problems are quite noticeable. Stone misses the intro and first verse in State of Love and Trust. Clearly something is very off and wrong with the guitar work in Ghost. It sounds so empty and is a mood killer. One of my favorite tunes, played well in the 2003 bootlegs, but it sounds very unrehearsed here. Adding to that is Know Your Rights, which the band barely seems to make it through. They get off time badly in a few spots. It's weird, the version in Atlanta around a week prior was incredibly tight. Although the 1st encore is quite good and sets a better tone for the show, I found the second encore very much lacking. Life Wasted is sloppy and I've never been a fan of the singer for Mudhoney doing vocals on Kick Out the Jams.
I've listened to this boot a few times over the last year and all the errors in the main set almost kill it for me. It does have a good sense of energy in most of the songs though and the opening is certainly the best part for me. Also, much like the Atlanta 12 mix, Matt's drums sound wonderful. They didn't sound quite like that on any of the other 2012 boots (including Deluna), not that those mixes were bad. His snare drum is so piercing and bright on these two boots, but with the right amount of depth. Anyways, I feel this is a fairly overrated boot. It's solid, but unremarkable to me. I have a feeling I'm about to be trashed for saying that. :?
