So I've listened to several boots here lately that left me slightly underwhelmed: Greenboro 00, Kansas City 00, west palm beach 03, buenos aires 1 05, Boston 2 06, Melbourne 2 06, Hartford 08, and New Orleans 10.
I had issues with the mixing on Kansas City 00, Ed's voice is mixed too low. That was an issue for that leg of the 00 tour I've found. Otherwise it was a decent show. Same can be said for Hartford 08 and New Orleans 10, they just sounded abit too rough and muddy. Buenos aires 1 05 had some really weird sound defects as well. Shame. The others didn't impress me significantly with the performances. I can't say I've heard a boot I'd call bad or lacking, but many are just average or decent. I'd about guarantee even those were great to see in person, some shows do not translate as well onto an audio recording. These are a few lately that I put in that category.
I did get to listen to about 1/4 of Bologna 06 today, it was a pleasant suprise. A nice little show for sure. Slightly above the average I'd say.

Sounds like you need a break from PJ boots for a while! Boston 2 '06 I thought was easily one of the best shows from that leg of the tour, Melbourne 2 '06 was good but night 1 is better IMO. I think the mixing and quality of the 2000 boots is far better for the US legs rather than the Euro shows. There are some great Euro shows but the mix and sound quality is very poor.

Well, I do remember enjoying Melbourne 1 quite a bit. Haven't given it a spin in a while. I knew Boston 2 was this hyped show and killer set, I may have placed my hopes to high. Too many songs just sounded slightly off to me, but maybe I'll give that one another chance in the future. I actually enjoy the mix on the Euro 00 tour over the US 00. The drums are mixed too low on the US boots and Eds voice is too low in that last leg. My only issue with Euro is Jeff is mixed a bit low, but I can still hear him most of the time. The Euro boots have much more clarity, US 00 can get a little muddy at times. Still, I'm in no way saying those US boots sound bad, they sound nice, but they have their issues just like every tours bootleg catalogue do. But you may be right, a short break may be in order.

A completely uneven set all the way through with no flow to it at all. The opening 4 songs start the trend - Instellar Overdrive/Corduroy/Severed Hand/Got Some, totally no flow there. Again the last 4 songs of the set highlight this - Unthought Known/Driven To Tears (what is Ed thinking putting it here????)/The Fixer/Rearviewmirror. The 1st encore is all over the place, Just Breathe and The End good but Red Mosquito isn't a great version compared to the last 3 or 4 with Ben Harper. The inclusion of Jazz Odyssey only highlights bad choices in the setlist. Lukin with the string quartet just doesn't work at all here.
Very hard to pick any highlights here but Dissident, I Got Shit and the 2nd encore is decent enough.
Another point to note, Ed asks the crowd to help him out before Amongst The Waves saying his voice is going. This is 7 shows into that leg of the tour and he's already struggling - another case in point why the band only plays short tours now.

I believe you and I clearly have major differences in how we listen to and hear boots. And that's okay, it's what makes it fun. Anyways, I loved this show. One of my favorites actually. Full of energy and the band fed off the crowd well. I thought the set flowed nicely as well.
The point you're bringing up about short tours is relevant, but lets not over generalize. 2009 was a rough tour all around for Ed's voice. I've only heard a handful from that whole tour where he sounds great. 2010, 2011, and 2012 he sounded a lot better and his voice held up longer as well.

Why Go kicks this one off with Instellar Overdrive/Corduroy, Got Some and an early Not For You following. Matt's drumming on Got Some and Not For You is excellent. A fairly loose Hail Hail is mid-main set but Insignificance and Present Tense are great. The Encore begins with Jazz Odyssey while they setup Ben Harper's gear for Red Mosquito, which is absolutely on fire. Tremendous version. Evolution is similarly on point. The Real Me and Alive follow before Perry Farrell joins the band onstage for The Mountain Song, which is fucking brilliant. Stone is let loose with some great solos on Rockin In The Free World to close the show.

To everyone who listens bootlegs out there. Calgary 05 or Calgary 2011 you think is better? Second, Perth 06 or Perth 2009? :?:
Perth 2006 is hard to listen to, the mix is so echoey it's distracting. Perth 2009 is one of my favorite boots, sounds great.
Trying to pick between Calgary 05 or 11 is more challenging. I prefer 2005 over 2011,but both are good. The band seems so relaxed and put on a great show in 2005 with wonderful vibes.
