I just find it funny that some people seem to think that guitar-based music has more validity than electronic music. It's fine to wish that they would've used more guitar sounds, but it takes a good amount of skill to do what they're doing, even if you don't like it.
I completely agree.

Love the people getting mad because Radiohead had the audacity to not make the same album over and over again. Also love the guy crying because he paid money for an album he bought without hearing. In today's day and age it's sooo easy to hear music prior to purchasing it that its your own fault.
As for the album, it's fucking brilliant. Totally in love with it.0 -
Follow-up Album?Radiohead fans are speculating that the band may be about the release another album soon as the follow-up to 'The King Of Limbs'.
The band released the new album on Friday (February 18) having announced its release four days previously. Now fans are highlighting a number of factors possibly pointing towards another release.
Some fans have taken the title of 'The King Of Limbs'' last track, 'Separator', to mean that a companion album is on the way - the song acting as a 'seperator' between the two.
Other theories point towards orders for 'The King Of Limbs' being numbered 'TKOL1'. Some fans are suggesting this could mean a 'TKOL2' release for the near future

Jonny Greenwood is all over this record. He definitely doesn't need a guitar in his hands all the time. I love his ondes martenot work. Phil Selway is one of the best drummers on the planet and he really shines on this record. When the second half comes out in a few months it will all make sense.0

I loved In Rainbows, but I'm disappointed in this. I think it's a step back for them. It's more listenable than a lot of music out there, but I have a pretty high standard for Radiohead and this one doesn't cut it IMO. I'll keep trying to see if it grows on me some but so far I'll have to call this one a letdown for me. In Rainbows found a way to balance the electronic dalliances with true rock undertones, but this is all electronic. Reminds me of Amnesiac, my least favorite Radiohead album.0

As I stated, I don't like this album now, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it grew on me eventually. I thought Kid A and Amnesiac were horrible, save for a few tracks, for the first while.Gimli 1993

sawyerjam wrote:The beauty of Radiohead is in the details. The intricacies of each song are amazing. They make envelope pushing, genre-less music that incorporates all the tools of the technology age but remain organic. The King Of Limbs is not social listening. You actually have to focus and take in what's going on. If you don't you might just miss the boat. Atleast you can always listen to Just on repeat.
weak jibe. All i said was that I listened to The Bends and 'Just' came on. I realised how amazing it is.
but you make a salient point... I'd rather listen to 'Just' on repeat for the 38 minutes or whatever the new album lasts for than listen to King of Limbs. I find it an amazingly poor album.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
whygohome wrote:As far as I am concerned, the band can do whatever they like. If this is the album that they created to reflect the way they were feeling at the time of writing and recording, then that’s awesome. I simply do not understand the posts that use words and phrases like “utter shit,” “bull shit”, “piece of crap” and the post where someone said that he/she would kick them out of his car because of this album. This is ludicrous. Why the anger over an album that a band has released. It makes no sense. Anger? Really? The band owes you nothing. If you do not like the album, then don’t listen to it. And, if you want to express your opinions on the album, do it with some class and intelligence. Caveman is not a language.
I said i'd kick them out of my car. I apologise... I meant shove.
Also if you think phrases like 'utter shit' and 'piece of crap' are ludicrous then i think phrases such as 'jazz ears' and 'remain organic' reek of a pomposity than you would normally only find in an 18th century book of table manners etiquette. If people say critics are simply bitter failed musicians then the only thing worse than that is forum members trying to be critics.
We never said the band owes us diddly squat... but we can voice our disappointment at an album that we don't find to be particularly good. That we as fans of the band can hope for music that drew us to Radiohead in the first place. I'm not a huge fan of Kid A or Amnesiac so I can safely say that i'm not a fan of that particular genre... doesnt make my opinion less or more valid... I prefer guitar based music as opposed to ambient electronica.. so what? How is that me not 'opening my ears' and finding a new spiritual musical path. If people are attempting to be as condescending as that about an average album then i for one am glad i like Just. 18 times in a row.
That is the amazing thing about music... we can all have an opinion. As we all know opinions are like orgasms insomuch as that mine's is most important and i don't really give a fuck if you have one.oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
Everybody is a critic to a point. This is a public forum Dunkman. You should know that with 18,000 posts. You obviously have alot of spare time to listen to music. It's too bad you can't comprehend Kid A or Amnesiac either.0

I don't believe there will be a second half with the (2 x 10" LP) Newspaper album. Kid A and Amnesiac were both released on 2 x 10" records @ 45rpm each. We have a lot of vinyl flipping ahead of us in May as there's going to be 2 songs per LP side. We'll see if there will be any single releases with b-sides. Not necessarily as Thom York stated last autumn that de don't like the album concept and said that they probably release some 10" records instead. The concept of singles taken from the record doesn't fit too well with that statement...
But I sure hope that LP2 of the Newspaper album contains new unheard songs. We can always dream but that would just make us disappointed...Stockholm - 07/07/20120 -
The best band from any era is subjective and entirely based on personal taste, so I don't think everyone should agree that they are the best band of the last 15 years. In my eyes, they take the crown because though they have more success than 99% of bands in the world today, they have stayed true to their art, constantly evoloving, never giving into the easy road of churning out easy verse/chorus/verse pop songs, and making music that pleases them first. They have had every opportunity to take the easy road and shunned it at every turn.0

i would have even more spare time if i didnt have to respond to puerile retorts about how I use my spare time.
as for I can't 'comprehend'... why the facetiousness? why say something like that simply because I don't like the actual music. What a highly supercilious comment to make. It's pretentious music snobs like you that i can't 'comprehend'oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
This is so funny to me. Everyone is so split on this album. During the day, we're all fighting. Then, at night, a bunch of people come in loving it.
We can all agree, that we were at one point, or currently, fans of Radiohead. So, in an effort to lighten the mood and put our opinions into perspective, lets rate all the Radiohead albums. I'll start.
1. Amnesiac
2. In Rainbows
3. OK Computer
4. Hail to the Thief
5. The Bends
6. Pablo Honey
Dont let other people's opinions sway you from listening to something. Everyone does have an opinion, and is certainly entitled to it. So...FORM YOUR OWN!!! Listen to the album for yourself. Dont write it off because of all the negative reviews you may read here and elsewhere. Personally, I loved In Rainbows (right behind OK Computer and The Bends for me), and found this one to be jarring at first, but after several listens, I find that it contains some of the best stuff they've ever done. Separator, Codex and Lotus Flower are fucking standout tracks and the atmosphere created with tracks like Little by Little sound like nothing they've ever done. On a side note, this is probably the best bass work on a RH album. Colin fucking tears this thing up to shreds.2003 Mansfield III
