You have to figure that there had to be a few police officers at a public event like this so where were they during the shooting?
From what they're saying, it doesn't sound like there were any police details at the meet-and-greet. I know they don't have police at these when they happen around here.
But where I live, there always seems to be a uniformed and armed police officer on a detail inside the big supermarkets.

Thats a good point about the supermarkets, a friend of mine is a local cop in jersey and he gets that detail on occasion. Also you would think with the fact she had threats in the past, her staff would've had some security detail at least for a public event like this. Not saying it would've prevented her from being shot but the fact that so many people were is crazy.
I just read the little girl that was killed was Dallas Greens grandaughter, her father is a scout with the dodgers.
One would think something so heinous and evil would bring people together...
there is the karma.
We should unite in love not the sham of politics.
Politics is the power of the weak. Love is the true strength.
How will the world ever come together?
Some believe we choose how we leave this world before we come here.
That there are souls who sacrifice to help others to learn love,
some believe we are all connected.
Go in love, rest in peace.
I heard briefly while the TV was on this morning that 2 politicians, one a Republican, one a Democrat hugged each other after hearing about this tragedy. Even though we are constantly at odds with each other politically, it's necessary that we step back and take a look at the big picture of it all.
At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Pima County, Ariz., Sheriff Clarence Dupnik offered more details on how suspected Arizona shooter Jared Loughner was disarmed.
Dupnik said that when Loughner ran out of bullets in his first magazine clip, a woman who had already been shot "went up and grabbed" the new magazine "and tore it away from him." Dupnik said the name of the woman was known but he did not share it during the press conference.
After the confrontation with the woman, Loughner was able to load another magazine into his weapon, but "the spring in the magazine failed," Dupnik said, and two men were able to get his weapon away from him and subdue him until law enforcement arrived.
when i lived in Lawrence, i would drive into Topeka to see friends quite a bit. they picket EVERY DAY. it's disgusting.

yup. the same group. the picket just about everything & it's fueled my hatred. they would bang on my windows while at a stoplight sometimes....right in front of the Capitol building.

I had just heard about this, and tagged along with it is that Sarah Palin put her on her hit list back in March of '10.
Oh for gods sake get a freakin life !!!
Sarah Palin has never promoted or condoned any kind of violence what so ever towards any elected official or anyone for that matter. Then again why am I even suprised to hear absurd statments like this. I for got this the is the Moving train. a train that never stops at logic and common sense..

I'm sure her camp had plenty of security, but really, man, this was in a supermarket parking lot. its not the president, and so how much can they really limit the comings and goings of patrons to the store. i'm sure there was no frisk or metal detection going on, as people were entering and leaving the market or the parking area. Probably visual security, watching out for suspicious looking characters and the like. And he approached from the rear if I'm not mistaken? Probably the least enforced area. I'm no expert, but these types of things are a security nightmare, I'm sure.

alright.... i despise the venom spewed out by the bigots on the far right as much as anyone, but I cannot agree that a "second amendment remedy" statement, or a "cross-hair" map has an influence that triggers this kind of violence. are those actions irresponsible? sure. are they insulting to the intelligence of our society? without a doubt. But, nut job republican rhetoric does not make them in any way responsible for what happened yesterday. Remember, it is the same whack jobs that want to blame ozzy osbourne for every teen who commits suicide because the dont understand his lyrics... it is the same whack jobs who want to hold marylin manson responsible for the columbine shootings. they want to blame t.v. and video games for every violent action in society, and it would be laughable if so many people didn't buy into it. So, I cannot find it ridiculous that the religious right can blame artists for the actions of crazy people while at the same time asserting blame to glen beck, sarah palin, or Sharron Angle for their nonsense "inspiring" nut jobs to kill people.

i love how people just assume he's a tea party supporter. :? where are you seeing this? where are you seeing he is a palin supporter? are you just hoping he is?
Oh I'm sure many on here are just salivating at the possibility that this nut job was a tea party supporter. In fact, I'd be willing to bet they even have a bit of excitement welling up inside at the prospect. Funny though, I expect this place to be as silent as a morgue if it proves he's anything but that.
What's the matter, are you having a guilty conscious attack on how some of your hate filled tone could have fuel this rampage? Maybe its YOU that's getting off on that so-called 'bit of excitement' over the slaughter of these people, How's your hand!!
--Its weak minded people like YOU within our society, who can't separate a person from their politics that leads to mass shootings
-weak minded people who claim to be disgusted with the murders but understand the 'why' factor
-weak minded people who turn these killers into heroes because they 'identify' with their plight.
What would have been our reaction as society
-if this person had been a Muslim, we would call it an act of terrorism
-if this person had been a Latino, we would be rounding them up like cattle
-if this person had been black, we'd be in our pickup trucks.
because he's a white male, he just another sick individual who committed murder and mayhem for which society can some how relate to him, as if he is someone acting like an asshole in a bar. But then again, my guess is that you would find an excuse to justified the next freak with a gun who uses they're morbid sense of Constitutional morally to slaughter people because that's your turn on not ours.
Please, don't get pissed when you see every little Congressional person with their own security protective service [Xe Services] in your community courtesy of the U.S. Taxpayers because Congress is currently working on a bill that would give them such protection. Too bad it won't cover the non-political citizens that get caught in the cross fire, but what the hell, we as a society 'understand' why they now need this protective service that was created by their own malicious voices..
SIN EATERS--We take the moral excrement we find in this equation and we bury it down deep inside of us so that the rest of our case can stay pure. That is the job. We are morally indefensible and absolutely necessary.

TUCSON, Ariz. – At an event roughly three years ago, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords took a question from Jared Loughner, the man accused of trying to assassinate her and killing six other people. According to two of his high school friends the question was essentially this: "What is government if words have no meaning?"

I can't believe I'm even wasting my time responding to this drivel. Your entire post is nothing short of psychotic. If you think for a single moment that there aren't people on this board who are hoping this guy was some sort of "right winger" (and it seems like you've already made that determination), then you need a serious reality check. If it comes to light, he was some liberal, political radical, then who are you going to blame? The Tea Party? Just because he targeted a Democrat does not mean he's some conservative, Christian, gun wielding, redneck.
Just to address some of your, uh, "points"
1) What's the matter, are you having a guilty conscious attack on how some of your hate filled tone could have fuel this rampage? Not for sure where my "hate filled tone" has reached mainstream media and influenced this monster.
2) --Its weak minded people like YOU within our society, who can't separate a person from their politics that leads to mass shootings
-weak minded people who claim to be disgusted with the murders but understand the 'why' factor
-weak minded people who turn these killers into heroes because they 'identify' with their plight.
There is just so much here that really makes me feel worried for you. Seriously.
-So people that disagree with your point of view, are automatically, "weak minded" and prone to mass shootings? That's interesting. Not to shift too far off topic, but since I don't really pay attention to them, can someone please show me the instances where pundits like Beck and others have suggested violence, or encouraged anyone to take arms? I don't mean some bullshit subliminal message either. Most people I have found that talk about the "violent rhetoric", don't even watch or listen to them. They simply rely on sound bites, or hearsay, or small video clips on sites like Media Matters that are taken out of context. Since it seems to be so prevalent there should be no shortage of examples that can be given.
-I don't see how anyone short of a sick psychopath, could EVER condone an action like this.
-The only heroes in this story are the people who tried to stop this mad man.
What would have been our reaction as society
-if this person had been a Muslim, we would call it an act of terrorism Yes. No matter what the race, it's terrorism. McVeigh was a terrorist just like those fuckers on 9/11. There is no race, or nationality when it comes to assholes who kill innocent people, regardless of their motive. You're other two examples are just ignorant.
because he's a white male, he just another sick individual who committed murder and mayhem for which society can some how relate to him, as if he is someone acting like an asshole in a bar. Uh, no. 1. It's been said that the shooter read books by Hitler and Karl Marx. I don't know if we can say he was a Tea Party member, a Republican, liberal, etc.
