This thread is flawed a bit. I've been a member since 96-97. But it says I joined in 2003.

Those dates don't mean anything. They have personally told me this. Your number is everything and that's all that really matters. Join date means nothing if they were going to do my plan. All they need is name and 10 Club Member Number.

I honestly know it would never happen and I don't want them to do away with the original numbers, it would just be nice to know where your "ACTUAL" position is. It could be adjusted every December.

I just used that number as an example. I honestly don't know what to make of the paid members area that is here.

And seriously, if you have been in the fanclub 15 years, and can’t afford to pay the increased dues (for better seats), you shouldn’t be wasting your money on it anyway. If you have to choose between food for your kids or fanclub dues, you shouldn’t even be considering fanclub dues. Maybe it would motivate someone who can’t afford the dues to better their situation, so that they can afford it. Explain why long term 10C members should get better seats then? They are not more loyal, they are just more lucky. They are beneficiaries of circumstance. They get more than others, for the same price.

I forgot about this topic and re-reading this I felt compelled to respond to this SHIT! This guy went so off topic and then started a discourse basically that money talks and about people are better for making their way to the top of the particular ladder they chose to spend their lives climbing. Not everyone calls that a life.

Mate... No one in their right mind would let $50 a year come in the way of the welfare of their children. Joining and then staying with any particular Fanclub is the exact measure of a loyal fan, more so now that it seems people don't see the need to pay for their music. You need to let go about yr Mommy and Daddy forbidding your precious $5 to be sent to the band you love to become a member of their Fanclub.. seems like your parents had no idea what joy that meagre $5 (for a full fucking year!) would have brought their child.

All fans here are equal. If anyone thinks, at any time, they are PJs Biggest fan... get over yourself

..unless you are still Member #1 :D

So you don't spend your life trying to improve your situation, working hard, saving money, trying to constantly make life better for you and your family? How else could you possibly live your life?!?!?! What do you do, just say "fuck it" and let the government take care of you?

I’m actually glad my parents taught me the value of a dollar and wouldn’t let me join, I still have a better number than most. It’s those little lessons that were painful at the time, that pay big dividends in the future. Joining a fanclub has almost NOTHING to do with loyalty. Going to concerts, buying albums and merchandise is what it’s all about. You can spend more going to one concert than most have for 10C dues in their entire life! I just don’t understand why one person who joined the fanclub a few years earlier, and maybe sent in an extra $50 gets better seats than someone else who might have spent thousands more on concert tickets and merchandise over the years.

No one in their right mind would let $50 come in the way of the welfare of their family? How about this thread where they guy is struggling to pay the mortgage and is wondering what PJ related stuff to spend his money on?
  • When someone drops out/fails to renew with the TenClub, those membership numbers are essentially retired, right??

If that is the case, I suggest the TenClub do any/all of the following:

    1. Make a buttload of money for charity by auctioning off a few of the positive position changes each year. (I'd drop 3K for anything in the 40,000 or below, but even jumps of 75-150K would be huge)
    2. Offer one random draw Membership "Jump" per tenclub show/ticket sale - nothing huge, like 50K spaces or something.....
    3. Place derivatives on them and sell them to Wall Street.
    4. Hold an expired-member-only concert.
    5. Not hit the hornets nest that is the complaint wing of the forums, and keep the status quo.....

There's already a thread going about membership numbers. We'll merge this one into that one. Please remember to check for an existing thread. Thanks!

As someone that buys most stuff that PJ puts out, it's not really about how much money you've put into the band as much as it is how much the music moves you and draws you back, to me. There's people that instantly justify everything PJ does and I don't think that makes them better fans than the people that have good reason to gripe about certain aspects. Hell, there's some of their music that I think could be better, but I don't feel like the people that like everything before they've heard it are bigger or better fans.

Being in a fanclub doesn't necessarily make you the biggest fan either. There's plenty of people in the 10c just for the tix or to make sure they have all the little PJ tidbits. It's loyalty to the music that makes you a big fan. Not diggin Ed's white pants, not the sweet show poster, not even sitting front row and having a handful of Mike picks fly past your head. That stuff definitely helps, but if these guys were writing and playing Air Supply tunes all the extra shit would be meaningless.

I dunno who said it, but "Worship the music, not the musician(or all the other frivolous shit)".

I agree with your 100%. There is no measure of loyalty, so why arbitrarily pick fanclub membership number? Just because you sent $5 to the band in 1993, you get better seats than someone else? Never mind that you could have copied every PJ tape/CD in your collection, and sent the savings off to be a fanclub member. Those low number people spend the exact same thing on a membership number as the 4XX,XXX people do, and get a vastly superior product. I'm not proposing that you scrap the seniority system all together. I just think that people should pay for what they get. If you are getting fifth row tickets to every show, your 10C bill should reflect that. And I'm not just talking the $75 you spent on fan club dues more than the guy in the 25th row.

If 10C was a liberal entitlement program, the most senior members would get the worst seats, no Christmas single, and pay far more than everyone else. It’s hilarious to watch everyone support the bands left wing politics, but not want to apply it to their 10c seniority!

Although I suppose it is all better than having the best seats go to ticketmaster!

My membership date on that list is by the date I originally joined the forum, not my 10c start date (which are about 10 months apart).
