I know there's a thread about "Discoverer," but I figured it'd be good to have one about the album proper.

Anyway, they released another song from the record today, "It Happened Today," which features Eddie Vedder:

I like this one a lot better than "Discoverer". Love the ending section with Eddie and Mike Mills, sounds like one of the better cuts from Out of Time.

Stipe's voice sounds as great as ever... but I continue to find myself underwhelmed by their music as of late... something got lost in the late 90's. Up was good, and then...

    Can't wait for the album.
R.E.M. still is a great band after all these years.

Some of the lyrics seem to reference "Houston," which is cool. That's one of the better songs from their previous album.

I like all three songs that I've heard so far from this record.

Right on! The only time I've ever felt REM weren't kicking my ass they were still giving it a nice gentle spanking!! 8-)

Been reading a bunch of early impressions that say it's their best since New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

I definitely have to see this band live if they tour for this album or on a later tour. I rarely see concerts, but this band is on my list of "must see before I die" live acts.

Another new song! (With a bit of an unfortunate title...)

    "Mine Smell Like Honey": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-lzCaG ... r_embedded
  • Mine Smell Like Honey sounds fantastic!
I think this will be another great R.E.M. album after listening to these four songs (It happened..., Discoverer, Oh my heart, Mine smells...).
  • whulmefwhulmef Posts: 176
I agree. Discoverer has grown on me quite a bit. I was skeptical the first time I heard it and the other two new ones, but I do think this new album will be great. Hopefully these Bonnaroo rumors are true.

    Ah shucks.
  • I just bought a $10.00 ticket to attend the new album Pre-Release Listening Party at the 40 Watt Club in Athens. They've been doing these pre-release listening parties since 'Automatic For The People'. Thought I'd grab a ticket and head over to crazy Athens and check one of these events out. The band doesn't attend, but this has become a cool local tradition in Athens, so I might as well check it out before they stop doing these types of things.

That sounds very cool. Even without the band there, nice fan tradition.

  • Today on Amazon, Oh My Heart is the free song of the day.
  • I've heard a few things from various journalists who've heard the album that the final track ('Blue') is one of the best things they've released in years. Really looking forward to this - love everything I've heard from it so far.

This is one is great... Wow... I wasn't impressed with the first track they put out... but maybe I have to listen to it again... because this Oh My Heart song is quite stunning. Definitely changing my outlook on the new album.
