Best album of 2010?

edited January 2011 in Other Music
Was just thinking of my favourite albums from the past few years

2006 - Pearl Jam
2007 - Angel Down (Sebastian Bach)
2008 - Chinese Democracy (The Axl Rose Band)
2009 - Black Gives Way to Blue (AiC)

and then I thought about this year. I've discovered a lot of good albums this year but to be honest I've not heard a lot of music from 2010 and I've not been blown away by. So has 2010 been a dud year or have I missed something?

NB The only albums I have heard this year were Le Noise (Uncle Neil), Slash, STP, Smoke and Mirrors (Lifehouse), My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Kanye West)

  • My favorite would have to be "Brothers" by the Black Keys. If you like blues-rock (think White Stripes, with a better drummer) I would highly recommend you at least check 'em out.

I would have to agree as well about The Black Keys, killer album. However I do like the new KOL as well, I don't know why those guys get so much crap as they do, I think all their albums are great..

Its cause they are too famous now and that means people get over critical. I preferred their early stuff, but I still the new stuff

I vote for Black Keys as well. Hearing those songs in all sorts of commercials now.

My favorite, Howling For You, was in a Cadillac commerical yesterday. :o Wish I got into this band earlier.

My rankings so far. For the past few years, I've been in this email thread with about 100 people who rank albums every year. It's pretty fun to see everyone's thoughts.

I like your list but didn't even know about the Bach record that year, it's that good, wow, I 'll have to check it. I really did like Chinese Democracy that year, but I think 2010 has been a dud year as nothing jumps out at me either.

I agree, I do enjoy listening to 59 Sound a lot. It took me a while but American Slang grew on me.
Also waiting on the new Frank Turner EP to come out in December....from what I have heard, should be a solid release

Mofro's release was pretty damn good. Not their best but better than most.

The Key's album was good too.

...because I absolutely loved Deocracy. I don't get the hate against it. Forgetting all the bullshit around it, just concentrating on the music it's pretty kick ass. Admittedly it isn't a Guns album it's an Axl album but that doesn't take from the record.

Yeah dude it's a good record if you're into that kind of thing. Tbh the list was a top of my head kind of thing I didn't spend ages analysing albums of 2007 but just thinking about it Angel Down really jumped out at me. It's worth a listen for sure - I love it.

It's a really close call between Fistful Of Mercy 'As I Call You Down' and Midlake 'The Courage of Others' for my album of the year, they are both amazing records.

There are quite a few others that I really love as well:

    Black Keys - Brothers
    Quasi - American Gong
    Neil Young - Le Noise
    You Am I - You Am I
Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards
    Guanaco - Sky Burials

Kings Of Leon - Come Around Sundown
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Hawk

Ash Grunwald - Hot Mama Vibes
    Xavier Rudd - Koonyum Sun
Band Of Horses - Infinite Arms
Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants - Chris Shiflett & The Dead Peasants

I know there's more but I'm at work and just reeling them off the top of my head...

I think it is between the National's High Violoet and Arcade Fire's Suburbs.
So far a nice honorable mention to Kylesa's Spiral Shadow.

Kind of funny a few years ago it was between National's Boxer, Arcade Fire's Neon bible

I really wanted to like the Dead Weather album, and I really don't. Are things just overrated sometimes because it's another Jack White side project?
