Just an observation from Internet vids but dear god did eddie sound good last night....

    Perfection right there

He sounded incredible last night. He looked great, the band looked great. Mike had some cool steel guitar that I don't ever remembering seeing.

Walk With Me was great, Santa Cruz was fantastic as well. It was very special to see how Eddie interacted with the kids, he is truly one of a kind!

He did make mention of the anniversary, indicating that it was 20 years ago last night (said last night) and that if wasn't for Uncle Neil they wouldn't have made it past 5 or 6 years.

  • Last night was amazing. Eddie sounded perfect. Loved that they played Santa Cruz (spent a lot of time there in my youth). Black was beyond great. Obviously we were left wanting more, but knew it would be a short set. Going back for more tonight. :D

Someone shouted out "Congratulations" or something between the first two songs, and Ed goes all, "I wasn't going to mention the anniversary, it's all about the kids tonight, but thanks...."

Ed also mentioned how gee, 20 years ain't nothing to the performers he was in the presence of, something like it feels like they're only halfway or something. Was pretty cool mention.

And yeah, Ed was on fire, nailing it, grooving with Neil on Walk With Me. Dancing Barefoot was the highlight for me, well, and the quartet arrangement of Black!!! And Santa Cruz with the Full Band! And the lullabye Betterman on the parlour guitar (jeff then took over the parlour for a song!) And the full acoustic Unthought Unknown .. oh yeah, and just how awesome these guys are full acoustic!!!! As you can see in the vids, Boom was present as well, don't recall him in years past at Bridge, always a great addition! Nothingman, oh my!

Pearl Jam was in top form, Billy put on a good set aided by the GIANTS WINNING THE PENNANT during his opening song (wherein the crowd literally drowned him out cheering), Buffalo was really nice (but so cold and wet at that point), Kris was fun too I dig his vibe, honestly disappointed with Jackson Browne and Elvis Costello's sets ... so many songs I would have rather heard than a string of ballads with Emmylou (and I was actually WITH my wife at this show, but still...). Elvis sang his last song with Peggy, Emmylou, Lucinda, and Kris ... and it ... well, the chorus was a bit of a trainwreck, harmonizing nightmare!

    Let's do it again!

To me, the band never sounded better! Ed's voice was absolutely perfect and so strong and controlled! Just amazing.

I just watched the youtube vids of Walk with Me and the Patti Smith, and was thinking exactly the same thing about the singing. Even on the youtube quality I don't think I have ever heard Ed sing as well as that. Would have been amazing to be there. You're lucky!!

They also have Betterman and Dancing Barefoot.
  • Flew in from Chicago so i was only able to catch Saturday night but it was a really special night. Every act was good - in particular I thought Jackson Browne and Elvis Costello played unbelievable sets. But the mood was good despite the rain. PJ opened with Last Kiss - it got people singing but I didn't think it sounded very unique played on just acoustics. But then Unthought Known was awesome (by the way, I heard them play Unthought a few times this year and I'm starting to think this may be the best live song from Backspacer). Nothingman was nothing short of spectacular - as a few people have noted Eddie's voice was just on all night long, in particular on Nothingman. I had heard that version of Betterman when Eddie played Chicago solo in 2008 but with the entire band it was really beautiful and it built up to a strong finish. By far this was the highlight of the night and I really hope we can get a recording of it when the Bridge School album comes out. Walk With Me kicked ass, I have been humming the chorus to that all day. And of course the last 2 songs were epic - but what did you really expect when you give PJ acoustics and a strings section and close their set with Just Breathe and Black? Overall an awesome night and a really cool set - totally worth the trip.

Back to waiting for tour announcements...

These are mp3's of night 1 from all the best sounding youtube clips. The ones in caps labeled "source 2" are all from the same person so the sound is pretty balanced on all of those. Still haven't found a really good version of "Black."

Thanks to posters who were there and posted vids/pics/write-ups. Walk w/ Me was incredible....loved watching the video of the guys cover w/ Neil a song that is still brand spanking new. Neil's freestyle at the end put it over the top. How appropriate, and not lost on Eddie, that they're 20th anni was spend in the midst of fellow musicians who passed that milestone long ago. Long live Pearl Jam!

I was so cold and wet from the off and on rain and wind, but when PJ came on, I forgot all about that and jumped around and sang and took a lot of blurry photos! I wasn't close to the stage, but that didn't even matter, the show was sooooo great!
My thoughts exactly!! I was suddenly all warm inside! :D And Eddie's voice was AWESOME!
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream

Ed sounded absurdly good both nights, but the first night in particular. My thoughts are because of the time off + wedding, but more so the BRISK air out that night (we all know outside + cool air means better vocals & acoustics). Unthought Known's "Gems and RHINESTOOONES" was goosebump-inducing, and Nothingman was flawless. Walk with me was indeed great.

Night two was likewise solid, but I think Ed's vocals were better on night two personally. Overall two amazing sets.

Morbono -- 2nd paragraph you mean "were better on night ONE personally" ??? as you stated in your first sentence. I'm going to now FIRMLY agree....

I think Saturday set let Eddie showcase his tone(s), range and all the other goodness he does, both songs you mention come to mind as being amazing performances. 48 hours later, it's "Dancing Barefoot" "Walk With Me" and "Nothingman" that are stuck in my mind. And Betterman. And Santa Cruz. Night two pulled my heart strings more, I always tear up for ... Lukin. (kidding) The End, Just Breathe, Black. And Black's arrangement was perhaps slightly better on the 2nd go 'round.

Otherside edges out Santa Cruz in the rarities dept, both pop their cherries, but Santa Cruz not so much cause of EV solo. Still, both are goosebump inducers!

Something about night one, having endured the downpour, the IMHO HORRIBLE performances by a few, and indulgent sets by others just grinding me down the whole night. The tension and release of THE PENNANT!!!! The communal "win" we all celebrated while all around us is cause for spirit reducers.... Night two's T-Bone set was just amazingly fun, Elvis much more upbeat, Neko just atmospheric, some Soggy Bottom, LEON! So Pearl Jam perhaps didn't stand so far above the rest of the gig.

Having been in Indy earlier this year for the TORNADO-WATCH SHOW, I knew they'd deliver .... and I sit here just thinking about how awesome Nothingman was, and how happy I was to hear Lullabye Betterman!

Oh ok, yeah, it was the wife's first show! Seeing PJ with my wife of 18 years for the first time, amen.

  • Amazing show, but seriously with the rain and mud....FUCK THE LAWN. Sounded great though and I could almost see the big screen as it blew back and forth all night in the wind.

Ed sounded incredible. Dancing Barefoot was a highlight for me. Also Walk With Me was amazing. Probably my favorite one off Neil's new album.

It was nice to see some of you folks and then make some new friends.

Dan and Vicky - if you're out there, thanks for everything it was so great to meet and chat with you.
  • A big thanks to Pearl Jam for an awesome performance!!! I'm so glad I made the trip from the east coast.

Hahaha yep, I meant to say night 1. I think you brought up a very valid point - night 1 was much more "enduring" prior to their set ... both in terms of the later start (flew in from NY - the 3 hour time difference was killing me by the end of the whole show on Saturday) and the additional acts beforehand. All of it kind of made it that much sweeter on night 1 I suppose...Black was indeed possibly better on night 2 - I'm struggling to find a decent night 1 boot to re-listen...
