All this love for Bluegrass, but yet no one loves Railroad Earth? They aren't really traditional bluegrass, but one of my favorite bands. YMSB gets all the love in jamband land, but Railroad Earth plays circles around these guys and writes better songs too. Nothing against YMSB, I just really love RRE.

Last night I went to see Abigail Washburn. First off her new album "City of Refuge" is really great, please check it out. She plays clawhammer style banjo with an oriental feel. Anticipating the show I had in the back of my mind that her husband(Bela Fleck) may play with her and go figure he did! He played his Flecktones electic banjo (which sounded very guitar like) for a good number of songs. I have seen him play before but holy fuck! He is mind blowing.
Another person to play was Kai Welch who helped write a lot on the new album. Their harmonies sounded so good in the little club which held about 200 peeps. So here are some videos to check out.
I am sorry to write Earle Scruggs has died today. What he did for banjo music and three fingered playing can not be put to words. My flag will fly half-mass this week.

R.I.P. Earl. Truly one of the greats. We're blessed to have overlapped a portion of his lifetime.
It's Pete Seeger's 93rd birthday today! I had a chance to see him at his Clearwater Festival in NY. Although he is not really playing anymore you can just see his happiness when he was on stage with young kids or picking lightly behind artists. He is a true hero.
