Got a bunch of Bill Monroe & His Bluegrass boys on the ipod!

Favorite 'Newer' bluegrass/old-time music would have to include Old & In The Way, and Dave Rawlings Machine/Gillian Welch. Good stuff!
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I almost went to see Doc Watson at the newport folk fest this year. I really should've gone just to see him, he woun't be doing it much longer. :(
I did see Pete Seeger (91) though at his festival in NY. He didn't play much but to see how happy he was on stage with kids was priceless.

Try KUMD radio, from Duluth Minnesota. There's often old-time music on there.

Don't miss him if you get another chance. He was unbelievable. And he is funny as all hell.

Newer (kind of) bluegrass- Felice Brothers. Can't get enough of them. Fucking great and they have so much fun when they play.

yeah, mookeywrench you owe me as well my mind is blown. I saw the lp in the store but had no clue what type of music it was. I just ordered a copy of the newer album.

    Another great band...punk/grass like.

First time I've seen Pete Seeger play the mandolin and he rips this great tribute to the great Woody Guthrie.

Check out this band, Carolina Road. My Dad plays banjo and wrote some of the songs on this record:

That sounds great! Very traditional stuff, I would enjoy listening to them. Has he taught you anything on the banjo? I picked it up about a year ago and it is a tough insturment. I can play clawhammer style but I haven't gotten the hang of playing with picks just yet.

    Thanks Dude! :D
I just got the newer album Palomino and I dig it. It's got some fast ass fiddle as well as slower ballads, which I tend to enjoy more.
I noticed the second to last track on the first side, "separate" has a "wishlist" type rhythm in parts. Maybe it's just me hearing a little pj in everything.

  • Check out the Secret Sisters. Two girls with amazing harmonies, from Alabama. Recently discovered, produced by T Boone Burnett. They just toured with Ray Lamontagne. You should be able to find them on youtube.
